I was there and the performance was just mesmerizing. This is becoming one of the CSO's signature pieces and for good reason. Hearing them play Scheherazade takes you to another place.
Excellent music. Great Muti.
Soberbia dirección de Muti, magnífica orquesta. ¡Bravo!
Bravo, David Herbert!
I really want to see the final movement!! It is incredibly powerful (I was there).
Beautiful!
Love how Muti slows down at 1:20 It makes that whole buildup feel more powerful.
Go CSO, Go Robert Chen, Bravo!!
Complete, please.
Who is that playing the Trumpet I part, sitting next to Jay Friedman? He is too bald to be Mark Ridenour. Is he being considered for the vacant principal trumpet position?
I'm assuming so. Ridenour was there for the first piece by Mozart but never came back on stage. This guy might be in the running for Martin's former spot.
After posting my comment, I figured out that the mystery principal trumpet is George Vosburgh, who recently retired from the Pittsburgh SO and has been filling in at principal trumpet with the CSO since last season. I think this is why the audition for principal trumpet is now on indefinite hold. My hunch is that the CSO will go with Vosburgh, a CSO alumnus and Herseth clone, as long as he holds up and/or is willing. At the same time, they can jump to a new permanent principal if an opportunity presents itself.
jwhill7 It’s Esteban Batallán.
