It's ALWAYS a welcome sight to see Barenboim up there once again. I'm only now realizing recently how truly special of a musician he is. He is a truly unique interpreter of phrasing, always creating fresh musical ideas.
Lovely to hear this beautiful piece live, and Barenboim's inhabiting the music made a life-affirming experience. Bravo! Great to have him back.
I was lucky enough to be at Saturday night’s performance.
I’m still on a high.
This may have been one of the most dynamic 77 minutes of music I’ve ever witnessed in a live setting.
Maestro and the CSO were both in top form.
Grande Baremboin
Superbo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was there for the Thursday performance, front row center. I was also at Maestro Barenboim's final performance as music director of CSO however many years before. Incredible performances both.
Thank you CSO for this all-too-brief clip. I'm so envious of anyone who was in the audience last week for Barenboim's 'homecoming'; he is a treasure! (2:03-2:06!!)
Bedřich Smetana nejlepší :-D (the best)
Uznanie dla kunsztu maestro Daniela. Brawo orkiestra jesteście wybitni. Chylę czoła. Bravisimo.
Very moving performance maestro Daniel.
Yes Barenboim is one of the absolute great musicians of our time, so glad he came back, but Muti has curated this string section into absolute lush perfection.
Truth
Magical. Have the CSO strings ever sounded better?
Magical is the best word!!!
This is a great rendition. Never heard this masterpiece in which the harps are clearly heard.
Magical melodia. Thanks CSO.
OMG, excellent performance!
Love me some Smetana! I put that **** on EVERYTHING!
a pity that this is only an excerpt, the first nearly 3 minutes (I miss the rest very much)
I can see myself in the audience over and over :)
In his book on orchestration, Walter Piston said the triangle trill can bear too close a resemblance to a telephone ringing. And now whenever I hear a triangle trill I want to shout for someone to pick up.
I was there. Very good performance but the Czechs do it better. The CSO should release it
Sounds great, too much triangle in the mix though!
I don't get who 'dislikes' this lol
"Highly anticipated"? Really? To attempt to match 17 years of boredom he inflicted on us, while not giving a crap about Chicago? If you think this is good, search for Kubelik (former CSO music director, so you're not betraying the side) anyway, Kubelik and the Czech Philharmonic, at the Prague Spring Festival just as the Czechs are gaining their freedom -- and welcoming Kubelik home.
