The tangency portfolio is found when you add in a risk-free alternative to the model. It will then be a straight line from the intercept point corresponding with the risk free rate, and a mix of risky assets on the efficient frontier. The tangency portfolio is found where this line touches, or "tangents" with the efficient frontier. To see what I mean, look up the Capital Market Line, which is what this line is called.
