It's actually sad that Miyeon only got reconized for her vocals through this English EP, her voice is so freaking mature and she can hit both the low and hight notes so effortlessly. I've also noticed in their behind the scene recordings for the korean songs, Miyeon's voice sounds so mature compared to the finale released version of the songs, but Soyeon seemed to like her nasally vocals better from what I've seen. Glad she got to showcase her range in this album and hope it's not the last time we hear it.
Agree. Interestingly, this english EP gave every members to use their different colours more than what we usually hear. Like miyeon with low range, Minnie with her vocal runs, yuqi with mid to high range (this is what I realized when hearing the album). But I agree with Miyeon's voice and range is being utilised the most. I think that this album, they focus more on their vocal range rather than their colour voice(?), Something that I always wish they put a lot more because I like to hear some high range in their korean title track.
Yeah, I mostly only hear Miyeon’s mature vocals in her covers/special stages. Loved that they finally get to work with different producers this time and we get to see more side of their vocals (especially Miyeon) and they all can learn from it too.
Eyes roll is definitely much more explicit than anything they’ve done before. The most explicit they’ve been about sex I’d say was in Lucid, which Minnie wrote. To quote her exact words about that one: “after writing the lyrics, it (lucid) becomes sexier, the choreo too. its like ‘it'll be a great night if you would to spend a night with me’” [edited to fix typo]
“I Do” and “Tall Trees” are my faves also. I tend to gravitate towards mellower songs that are melodic and emotional. It’s one reason why I love (G)I-DLE’s discography. Thanks for your reaction, Shayla.
I like I Do and Tall Trees but I feel that those songs are not the point of this EP, but rather the other 3 songs that are much stronger and more risky. I respect your opinion but I think this EP is not for you. And I think that as Gidle matures, they will become even more aggressive.
About their lyrices in Dark (x-files) written by Soyeon, produced by Yuqi it says: Baby why you down? Wanna take a puff on my joint?. That to me seems pretty out there for a Korean song, considering how marijuana is very much illegal in SK. I'm pretty sure Soyeon would say a lot more things if Cube let her.
ahhh yeah that's true! I I haven't listened to dark in a while so it slipped my mind, but that's a good one to point out. I think I was more referencing more very blatant sexual-innuendo type lyrics, because I know soyeon has written a lot of stuff in songs like tomboy or nxde that are considered more scandalous especially as idols, but something I haven't seen a lot is women's sexuality talked about this directly (even though it Has obviously been talked about). I hope that makes more sense :]
@shaylareacts As another comment, they say a lot without saying it directly. Latata, dumdi dumdi, and let's not forget about Oh my god. If you have not heard the English version for Oh my god is a bit more direct than the Korean version 😉 Very much think it's a culture thing. They might feel a bit more free to say things in English since the older korean generations won't understand it as well 😅 especially when it's not performed on music shows.
Thank you so much for your reaction to this amazing English EP! I do agree that this EP is much more explicit and in-your-face sexual. I think that this is a result of two major factors. First, Korean culture is generally much more conservative than US/Western culture, so sexual matters are best addressed obliquely and by using innuendo in order to better satisfy the more conservative S. Korean market. That can also be seen in that K-pop groups often wear much more revealing and provocative outfits and feel more free to dance more provocatively when they are at overseas concerts compared to when they are in S. Korea. Second, this EP is in collaboration with 88 Rising (an Asian-American enterprise), not exclusively with their normal entertainment company Cube. The fact that this EP is in English is also very important as it also seems to give them more cover to be wild, as it is not in Korean (there are many times where Kpop songs have much more "spicy" English lyrics than their original Korean lyrics--especially if there is a dedicated English version of a song). I think this also gives them much more freedom to explore their overtly WILD side!
Thanks for the the I-DLE reactions! Soyeon and I-DLE have always touched upon mature/bold/risqué topics with thier own lyrics right from their debut Latata to Dumdi to SY's rap in Lucid and many more without using swear words but using mostly everything else. They even have the explicit Tomboy version on the CD and even performed it. And Soyeon in her solo stuff is very explicit with no "clean" versions. Nothing new for them. Infact the HEAT album comes in explicit and non explicit versions.
“Wasted miyeons talent” she gave everyone the lines they sounded best in, don’t forget that Minnie is also a main vocalist hence why she gets a lot of vocal lines as well

88rising probably simps for the K/DA leader, Ahri's voice 😂 they really do be using Miyeon fully lmao
Those producers really liked Miyeon's voice. She rarely gets to show how mature she sounds.
yea finally!!!

This kills me, she ends up being shoved aside by reactors and fans because of the forced nasally voice
Yeah, soyeon always asks her to sing more nasally in recording behinds, I noticed that too

i have to disagree. since debut miyeon along with minnie have always been praised and recognised for the vocals the most…

Tall tree is just purely beautiful
Shuhua said tall trees is her favorite track in a recent interview.
