- It is thought that one in 100 school children are affected by Tourette’s Syndrome, a neurological condition affecting the brain and nervous system that is characterised by involuntary, random sounds and movements, known as tics - most are boys.
There is no cure, but there is hope, thanks to the pioneering treatment programme at the world renowned leading children’s hospital Great Ormond Street. This moving documentary follows the lives of three boys and their families over a six-month period as they share the reality of living with the condition and the daily obstacles they face. This is their story, in their own words.

I have tourette's and for people who don't know what it's like, that urge you have when you sneeze, you can't hold it in. It's basically the same with tourette's. I don't swear with mine but I have vocal and physical tics. Tics also really hurt to the point I've been crying and been in absolute agony.

I hope Connor got some intensive therapy through Great Ormond Street or elsewhere because he seems to have a lot of anger issues wrapped up with the Tourettes. Marco is a lovely, gentle boy. Connor did remarkably well suppressing his tiks.

Kalsylvania Reseller For Connor it definitely does line up more with Tourette’s. His “other personality” explanation is him using a common cognitive distancing technique. To separate yourself from your illness by giving it a name to help him realize that his illness is not a part of who he really is as a person. It can be helpful for people who feel guilt over things they can’t control

Understand that Connor is not having fun with that. Maybe it looks funny to you but it doesn't mean he wants to swear and act violently. He admitted it himself in a part of the documentary and was really saddened with the fact that his parents have to deal with it.

as a person with tourettes this just makes me thankful that i only developed it later on
I have Tourette’s. I’m now 55. I’ve had tics since I was in Elementary school. Mostly blinking and head jerking. Some vocals tics. But, never cursing. It’s been a struggle most of my life.
I’ve been able to keep it under control to an extent. I mostly have my outburst in private. I managed to have a pretty normal life. Being married, having a child, working all my life. I’m just very self conscious.
I really feel for these boys. I can’t imagine having this as bad as them. My prayers to anyone that struggles with this disability. It is painful.
My son has tic and he just had his first doctor appointment and his doctor said he probley has touretts. I am so need to this and it very over welming. Waiting next appointments to see a nero doctor. He's struggling in school and i have no idea what to do? He's only 9. He doesn't know he's doing it.
@@kristin3125 Sometimes they say that children outgrow it. I never did. As an adult I’ve taken a couple different medications to help with the tics. The Pimozide helped, but caused Tardive Dyskinesia. Which causes involuntary movements in the face and other parts of the body. Once you have Tardive Dyskinesia it doesn’t go away. I stopped taking medication. Now I just have to live with the affliction.

I have Tourette’s too and I understand the embarrassment on his face.. poor man. It really sucks when your in public it hurts a lot but I have been taking medications and it’s really been helping! I used to have severe tics but now I’m getting better and they have been less and less and I’m really looking forward to the day when they are so minimal that I don’t notice them anymore. I want to someday become a veterinarian surgeon so having tics is really challenging when it comes to that so I hope that I can learn great coping skills and fight this disorder! I know it’s something that’ll effect me for the rest of my life but it’s apart of my life and I can’t stop it but I can learn to live with it
Callum is a funny guy and determined. Marco has the nicest attitude. Connor I pray that he would be determined to control and not be controlled by tourette. A virtual hug for these 3 different personalities tourette has showed us. God bless these lads.

Wow. These kids and their parents have come a long way after all of that treatment. It's just so heartwarming to see all of these conditions improving, making their lives much better. God bless their parents, the doctor, and all of the kids. I hope that they all live happy lives. Great video.
If they're willing I would love to see an update on these kids and find out whether the treatments worked, and if it sadly didn't work then to understand whether or not it's become easier to cope now that they're older
I doubt it did to a large degree, as someone with Tourettes it concerns me that the main method of treatment being given to these children is tic suppression which although helpful in the short term and a useful skill to have in the scenarios where it is needed it can make tics much worse in the long run. I often have to suppress my tics at school and in public and it works while I am there but as soon as im home it gets 10x worse and I often have tic attacks with more aggressive and violent tics.
I’m so proud of you three little boys! I was tearing up! You’re so brave and precious and I’m honestly so so proud of you Callum and Marco! As for you Connor, hang in there little buddy, you’re going to do fine! Love and light ♡✨
