- My tribute to Ishtar. When I was about six, my father came home after watching Ishtar when it was out in theaters. He said it was the worst movie he ever saw and that he walked out of the theater about halfway into the film. I found this hilarious and wanted to see it. When it came out on HBO he taped it for me. It has since become a family favorite and one of my favorite movies of all time.
Believe it or not -- but I LOVED this movie!!!! Especially the soundtrack. LOL. When life gets particularly bad and sad, I sing Dangerous Business and it makes me laugh out loud -- which, of course, makes me feel better.
Give me a half hour.. like the last half hour? lol
Bill Murray should have been in it though.
I LOVE this movie and leap to its defense whenever people bash it.
Apparently I am not alone. The NYT had a piece about how unfairly maligned it was.
"If you admit that you can play the accordion/ No one will hire you in a rock and roll band!"
My humor must be on tilt. One of my favorite movies. I love the songs. I can't sing. I wish they had made an album.
Victoria Ordin i think it got such bad reviews cuz they were both previously in bigger movies and warren was a sex symbol but playin a goof in this movie, i happen to think its hilarious from a musicians standpoint, or people who want to love when dustins out on the ledge making warren promise not to call anyone cuz it could hurt their carer, "yet nobody knew who they were lol. and i dont know why but for years i randomly yell APPLAUD!! like the guy does at the end of the film, idont know why haha other movie thats great is easy money with rodney dangerfield, tape heads,, they call me bruce and cheech and chongs thing are tough all over where they play the "ARAB DUDES"
Tongue in cheek, I never could find the album.
I'm sure I'm one of the few people who've watched this movie more than once. I even taped it, then lent it, but never got it back. Wonder where it is. I've watched Little Darlin' many times.
It is one of the funniest movies ever made!
I know this RUclips vid is years old, but I love this movie. It's one of those that's so dumb and silly that it's fantastic. The songs for it are freaking awesome. My best friend and I get together once a year, get drunk, and watch this timeless classic.
MY Very favorite movie!!! My favorite songs!!!
Mine too!!! Love the movie 🎶🎵
I LOVE this wonderful, silly sloppy mess of a movie! The actors are clearly loving every minute of it.....Songs to sing along with...LOUDLY......How can you miss?
awesome movie. whenever I feel down on life I think of this movie and laugh my ass off and feel much better...
PS: Because, life is the way we audition for God; let us pray we all get the job!
That's the second most brilliant line from the song, methinks.
It’s my favorite line.
We love this movie....and we can sing our hearts out lololol....
In my top 10 songs of all time!! Rogers and Clarke rock!
Dangerous Business is as good as anything Simon & Garfunkel ever wrote! lol
Love this movie... For some reason ;)
Great song too!
Ha ha, I've seen this movie once. Honestly I don't think it's as bad as the critics would make you believe. And something in that chorus (and ending) is so phenomenally uplifting.
My absolutely favorite movie! The one liners and sound track make me happy. It's like Monty Python, intelligent humor wrapped in stupidity.
+Diana White Apparently, I quite like your taste in entertainment. Love Ishtar, love Monty Python, anyway.
I love Ishtar was lucky enough to see it on the big screen recently. The scene where Dustin Hoffman fakes Arabic at the gun sale in the desert in just sublime.
actually, he was faking Berber. The fact that he claimed to speak various dialects of Berber but no Arabic put him under suspicion. Frankly, he was treading on thin ice when he ad libbed "Kareem Abdul!" but that was one of the few problems with this wonderful movie.
A comedic satire of the innocence of the pre 911 world.. excellent movie
You have great taste. This was an awesome movie! I always loved this song. Beatty and Hoffman were so hilarious in this. I saw this when it first played the Writer's Guild West. The audience was rolling in the aisles. The critics go this one wrong...and sadly America lost out and so few people got to see this in the theater.
Elaine May is a Genius!....
I love it too. It's a brilliant movie and I believe it's lost on too many people. And today especially. I'd like to wish you a very happy Ishtar!
"Telling the truth can be dangerous business..." Apparently, the so-called experts missed the theme of the movie and as a result didn't understand it. It's a true comedy with the protagonists being thrust into a situation partly of their own making and partly because of their naivety. In true comedic fashion they use their innate talents to resolve the situation in their favor. True optimists, they aspire to greatness despite their limited talent and advanced age. As Lyle (Warren Beatty) pointed out, "It takes a lot of nerve to have nothing at your age, don't you understand that? Most guys'd be ashamed, but you've got the guts to just say 'to hell with it'. You say that you'd rather have nothing than settle for less, understand?" The film is truly funny as shown in the scene where they have been led on a wild goose chase out into the desert with no apparent chance for survival; slowly dying and surrounded by vultures, Lyle laments to Chuck: "Maybe I just have the blues." I love this movie.
Absolutely right, I loved the movie!!!!
They bashed it because they thought that its production costs were too expensive for a comedy.
This is one of my favorite movies. No idea why it was called the worst movie ever made, considering that it had the entire audience in stitches almost the entire time. But, then, they all walked out, most of them denying that they had ever been laughing. Weird!
It's herd mentality. They just didn't want to admit that they disagreed with so-called "professional opinions".
Its budget was too expensive for a comedy.
".... and the scab that's on her knee won't go away." "Bitter Herb" would be a good band name for anyone out there who would like to pay tribute.
Humor is tough; you either get it, or you don't. But boy, do I *get* this movie! L.O.V.E. it!
Loved this movie. My friends and I saw it in the theatre a few times when it first came out. I still love it.
I like this movie, too! The songs were so bad, it was hilarious! (Give me a half hour, like the last half hour)? lol
One of the best movies of all time. I don't care what the critics say. If you don't get the humor, get out of the desert.
It's been vindicated by history. And rightfully so.
I absolutely agree with you!!! I love the movie!!🎶🎵😊
Some absolutely great lines.
Now this is entertainment!
I love this movie so much. so much.
Me encanta la película...Ishtar!!!
I've always loved this movie. The funniest movie ever with a great musical score. I even think I bought it, despite all the stupid negative reviews made by dumb people.
SIDA Paul Williams did a great job with the music
I saw this movie in 87 at the theater , i almost walked out .. but it did pick up mo mention when they got to Ishtar, glad i stayed to the end it turned out to be pretty funny movie.
This is the best song in the 'World'!!!....my kids love it 2 'could b a 'Just Bieber song these dayz
MY ALLTIME FAVOURITE MOVIE NUMBER TWO. NUMBER ONE IS DARKSTAR. SEEN ON TELEVISION AS A CHILD AND THEY WENT INTO MY SUBCONCIOUS AND DEGRADED "BACK TO THE FUTURE" TO THIRD PLACE, STAR WARS V TO FOURTH AND DUNE TO FIFTH... STILL NO OTHER MOVIE CHANGED MY TOP FIVE...
I love this movie. :D
By the way gang this movie is available to stream on HULU Plus.
I love this movie. "And they're armed to the teeth!!!"
I can see why people woupd hate this and call it one of the worst films ever, but I thought bits and scenes were funny and brilliant. so I like and look up whay celebrities like it too it'll suprise you
Critics thought the budget was too expensive for a comedy.
Anyone who doesn't love this movie is a smuck. I really know the lingo!
What's not to love about this movie?!?! I''m of the opinion that the critics were overtaken by group hysteria - here was their chance to takedown a couple superstars and, boy, did they enjoy doing that. However, I found it to be a very funny movie with great campy songs (thank you, Paul Williams). One of the few movies I've purchased. "I'd rather have nothin' than settle for less.." - a watchcry for the ages :^)
That’s Debbie Malone singing soprano over the choir!
I Love the song :D thanks for posting :D
THE FIRST TEN TIMES I SEEN THE MOVIE IN GERMAN SYNC. THE EVEN TRANSLATED THE SONGS...
TELLIN`THE TRUTH CAN BE DANGEROUS BUSINESS
EHRLICH ZU SEIN IST GEFÄHRLICHER LEICHTSINN
VERY FUNNY.
MAYBE I BECAME A SONGWRITER BECAUSE OF THAT FILM?
The Blu ray is out! get it now!
Great piece !!!
They will play this song at my funeral. If you hate this song, you're a nihilist.
SINCE A FEW YEARS I THINK IT MUST BE REMADE. THE STORY IS TIMELESS, ITS ABOUT THE ANCIENT MIDDLE-EAST AND GADDAFI AND THE SECRET-SERVICES... AND MOST IMPORTANT IT IS ABOUT TWO REALLY DEDICATED SONGWRITERS... I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A REMAKE OF ISHTAR STARRING OWEN WILSON AND BEN STILLER.
me too!
Not dubbed, live recordings 🎉🎉 i think it was released in theaters for one day. The second set of producers killed it.
I needed this!!
This movie is so ahead of it's time. 20 years later The Office is almost completely based on quirky dopey sort of unlikeable characters, cringeworthy asides and non sequiturs.
just great OST, I don't really understand those who says that it is an awful movie,
ok it's not a profound movie, it's not a "palme d'or", but it is well done, good acting,
and a great fun for everyone, most of all it's not worse than today moronic popular movies,
at least I would have given an oscar nominee to Charles Grodin AND to the soundtrack
Charles Grodin is a great actor. Always in top form. Watch him in Midnight run (1988) with Robert De Niro!....
@@carlosalomar7877 R.I.P. Charles Grodin
One of the worst-reviewed good movies ever! Just sawit on TV this afternoon!
So bad, it’s great.
Kick ass movie
So I heard this movie was awful then I saw the trailer (thanks RedLetterMedia) and all I can find is the trailer and a few songs and they look amazing?
+Jakira Kumahata I am a movie critic. I complain about everything I've ever seen -- almost. And I think the reason this movie gets so much shit is because it's tremendously stupid. But what most people miss is that it's supPOSED to be stupid. The plot is ridiculous and the protagonists are so deluded you want to slap them, but that's WHY it's fun.
I never thought about it until now -- so thank you for the opportunity -- but I think "Ishtar" is my favorite comedy. If you can't find a DVD (though I'm certain you can, and it'll be worth the price), I urge you to at least find a torrent. You won't regret this masterpiece of hilariously frustrating genius.
I am one of the few people on the planet that liked the movie and the songs. My wife can't stand the songs. She would rather bite nails. I thought the movie was really good in a toungue in cheek sort of way. I haven't seen the girl in any thing else. I really get a kick out of the songs. Who doesn't like to laugh. I love the part of the movie when they shoot the shoulder rocket and the grenade launcher and the guy says they are armed to the teeth.
I'm sitting on the edge. Looking down. Nobody cares. Someone get me off this ledge of self pity.
its so hard to find this song! can you send it to me or tell me from where i can download it?
Better than Simon & Garfunkel!....
That aint poverty baby
Desopilante
one of the worst movies ever. ..
who cares?? because it's so funny and crazy . a feel god - movie AT his best.
I don't know what is wrong with your father. It is far and away a better movie than the Crosby and Hope road movies it was modeled after. It's way better than Avatar or Titanic or or any of those superhero movies. He should have stayed though the whole thing, he would have liked it better.
Your father has no taste. I'm sorry. : (
First quarter of this movie OK. Vocal music funny, especially "Leaving Some Love in my Will". Rest was crap. Overall, I'd give Ishar one half of one star. But this video gets three.
what is all this shit, why do people love this film it's a goddamn mess
Better than any of Jennifer Aniston's crap films.

Isabelle Adjani is gorgeous.
