After inventing an anti-gravity device, scientist Thomas Edmonds and his daughter Mary attend the National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio in search of a pilot to demonstrate the device and Bob Raymond, from the U.S. Border Patrol, is chosen.
I can watch these silly things all day long. I love the Steampunk Sci Fi stuff.
STEAMPUNK?
I think you mean diesel punk after WWI-1940's
Eight years later, Tom Tyler would be flying again as another captain…Captain Marvel.
I saw that serial, and it was a snoozer.
The film is good and clear, there's no blurriness in the picture. This is a great film for anyone that enjoys the sound of engines with all the planes and the cars too. The director rightly so, put a lot of focus on engine sounds. With the film taking place in the American southwest (probably California) there is a lot of airborne dust. A lot! The actors must have been miserable as throughout the entire film they were constantly being blasted with dust from propellers as well as that from cars. I can state that I've never seen so much dust in any film.
This has pretty remarkable flying scenes for a serial in 1933. Only a few years earlier "Wings" won best picture with shots not too different in quality from this.
Back in the days when you could have machine guns on your crop duster....just in case.
CORRECTION HERE! My Comment, below, was in answer to a man with an attitude. My nasty remark was directed to him, not this movie or anyone in it. **I have no answer for where HIS Comment went to.
Great sharp print. Thanks for keeping it in B&W. Early 30s serials my favorites
Just remember that the real world is in Technicolor.
Would love it to have been in Technicolor. Since it isn't, I'll take the sharp B&W print.
really like the UNIVERSAL serials….
Leroy Mason is my grandfathers half brother.
🛩Thank you 🛩Good serial 👍Tom Tyler a favorite player 🥰Dec . 23 , 2023 🛩
Nice clear picture, and good audio as well. That's uncommon in a film that old. And the female lead is highly attractive.
My movie heroes had to be an athlete like TomTyler.
Hi, Doug! Did you get to print out a picture of Katherine Stewart for me to sign my name by mail or not yet?
I haven't seen Katherine in person yet to have her sign the photo
Legendas em Português please
Sorry I don't have access to non-English subtitles.
Gee Bee racer , deadly to fly !!
Mortimore Crome now there's a villains name for you
I knew it right away as each character was introduced at the beginning of the first installment.
I see presidential potential there.
Drones 90 years ago...not baaad
Awesome! Did anyone else notice the airplane changing to I believe a Curtiss Jennie whenever they climbed out on the wings. Going from a radial engine to an in-line like magic LOL
And a monoplane changes to biplane in the blink of an eye
What a pity there are not subtitles in french or other.
Unfortunately I don't have access to any foreign language subtitles for any of these public domain serials.
@@AtomicAgePictures Does that mean you can't do Egyptian hieroglyphics?😝
@@leelarson107 now THAT I might be able to pull off! 😉
As a kid growing up in the 1950's and 60's I built a scale model of the GEE BEE aircraft featured in the beginning of Disney's "The Rocketeer." All engine, a tank of gas and room for yer ass. I don't think many were produced and seemed to have been dangerous beyond belief. Ah, but those heady days of relatively early aviation, the basis of this film series. Odd aircraft didn't develop all that much after WW II. One had bi-planes all over the place but there was the advent of the Douglas aircraft designs where Charles Lindberg had a big part in developing strong engines and pressurized cabins to fly above Everest.
I was just a kid around 1950, and even back then I heard a lot about how dangerous these planes really were. They even looked dangerous parked by the hangar.
Love it
Anyone notice Walter Brennan,Cromes sidekick? uncredited.raymond puts his hands on a red hot engine but its no big deal, and is it compulsory to wear jodpurs when flying?
Jodhpurs never looked good, aside from German or British military uniforms.
