Richard Webb himself said in an interview for a documentary that they would use adhesive or rubber tubing to keep the hat on the stuntman. This was so the audience wouldn't notice that the stuntman had straight hair while his was curly.
A ferocious fistfight and their hats stayed on, but I love it. I predict that if anyone gets shot he’ll appear in the next scene with an arm in a sling.
Yes, and they always punch each other in the face, no body shots. They look just as good as if they never fought once the action is over, and the girl always gets knocked out at the beginning of each fight scene so she doesn't have to brawl😂😂😂
Does anyone notice that the entire cast always wears the same clothes, no matter how many days or weeks this story takes? Republic Pictures serials were noted for that.
The actors and acrtesses wear the same clothes to reduce the chance of continuity errors. It also provides a subtle but effective way to help viewers recognize characters after a week (or more) between episodes.
In the 1952 serial 'Blackhawk, Fearless Champion of Freedom', Carol Forman wore the same dress day after day after day through a supposed time frame of at least a couple of weeks.
AND why wasn't she trying to shoot at the trucks tires that was in front of them driving on Topanga Canyon Road, at least that's what it looks like to me, and I've lived in Malibu for 60 years.
Wow, light bending technolgy, and shooters who actually miss in a gun fight. And an insurance man who puts Batman to shame. There is just one thing I don't understand. Why doesn't anyone notice that bright light?
I haven't started watching the serial, yet, but thought I would read the comments first. Hats off to all the absolutely hilarious comments here, even the poster of the serial got in a few choice zingers. Thanks to all for a very hilarious read.

@@AtomicAgePictures Yes indeed. Great all action movie serial with fast and furious tempo especially when played at twice the speed on my tablet !! Thumbs Up 👍👍🇮🇪 Great Old Time Serial. Watching from County Kerry.
The highway chase scene at 58:15 with the exploding truck was stock footage used in at least two other Republic serials: The Purple Monster Strikes (1945) and G-Men Never Forget (1948). If you watch the scene carefully, you will notice slight differences in the pursuing car, a 1940 Ford.
In regard to the hats staying on, Back in those days men wore "fitted" hats. These are non adjustable hats which fit specific head sizes. Thus they stay on better than todays adjustable hats. Also sometimes to help conceal the stunt mens the hats where were pinned/clipped on.
It wasn't just to conceal the stuntman's faces. It was also better if the hats just stayed on. That way they didn't have to keep track of who's hat came off and at what time from shot to shot.
@@AtomicAgePictures They could spend acres of trees to make how many pieces of' disposable' furniture for fight scenes, and they can't keep track of a few hats?
@@leelarson107 it's a matter of time. Most serials were between 3 and 4 hours long in total. Yet they were still shot in 3 or 4 weeks! Most feature take 2 or 3 months, even back then. There just wasn't time to keep track of who's hat was on and who's wasn't while they were shooting.

How many bullets in those guns? I never see anybody reloading. Half way through, will finish tomorrow. At the beginning, one of those men getting off the truck appears to be John Hamilton, who played Perry White in the Adventures of Superman. Uncredited.

Yeah! ..Problem is , to be invisible PR needs a guy to follow him with a big spotlight!
Video quality is excellent. I don’t recall seeing this movie serial on RUclips before so thanks for posting!
These serials are great ! They are like grown man soap operas !
My dad tells me of the cinema he and his friends used walk to! I love watching these! Thanks!
My dad did as well, his favorite was Flash Gordon.
Climbing a mountain with skirt, heels, hat, gloves and purse😓!

The action ,stunts and special effects in these serial shows are amazing, for their time.

Great! I love these serials.
Thank you!
Greetings from Germany!
Republic always had 2 set decorators. One to set up fixtures and furniture and one to haul it all to the trash after a fight scene.
Saw this on TV back in the 60’s. I remember the invisible light and the music.
Love those old cars..and these serials...nice to see John Hamilton alias Perry White that guy is in so many movies but Superman what is his best
John Hamilton played the villain/killer in a couple films.
"Great Caesar's ghost!"
It's amazing after such fights how their hats were still on! Were they glued to their heads?
No, just a good fit!

From the late 40's.....before much development
California today is covered under an ocean of asphalt and concrete...................and the rest of the country is going that way.
Wow! A fist fight in under 2 minutes. That's the way to do a serial.

ten rounds in a revolver...Amazing...

The hats don't come off cos if they did you could identify the stunt doubles.
And you would constantly have to keep track of who's hat stayed on and who's didn't. It's just easier all around if the hat stays on.
