The biggest misconception people have about freediving is that it is about your ability to hold your breath for long periods, but its so much more than that. The further you get the more it becomes a meditative-psychology teaching you to relax every muscle in your body. Only then can you reach the depths you want. Have fun!
i love your humble but enthusiastic attitude towards things. i hope this channel blows up because I enjoy your content and I think a lot of other people would too
Wow, I'm just three days into practicing in the pool, and I'm really thankful I discovered this video. It's incredibly motivating and exactly what I needed to keep pushing forward!
so cool to see an Australian youtuber in my area try freediving. I used free dive a lot at shelly beach but just never had anyone to go with so id end up just doing it by myself (which is no good). I think by myself I got to around 12-13 meters deep (around the depth of the underwater motorcycle at shelly beach). I wish you luck on freediving and you definitely inspired me to try it again
I'm doing a class in Hawaii next month so this helps me know what to expect. Though I am a practiced swimmer so I know you can hold your breath on average for a minute on land so that doubles in the water typically, but static holds is always the worst.
Your baseline was really good ! I went snorkeling this year first time since adulthood and i went down maybe 6m and no longer than maybe 40secs lol. I am thinking maybe taking a free dive course to proper learn the technique and theory.
That's a great start, Laurie! I love swimming and diving, but I am super bad at breathing.. 1 minute max and I hyperventilate lol. The last shots are beautiful, swimming with seals must be amazing. Can't wait for your next challenge /video! Take care
Hi great vid! U never explained why you think you didnt have a eq issue anymore during your successful 10m dive? It just disapeared? Would like to hear your theory about what do u think fixed it? 😊
Swimming with the seals; awesome! I didn't realize the head-down equalizing can be an issue. I've gone down maybe 6-10m while snorkeling and really looking forward to doing a proper Freediving course with an instructor, hopefully this year, to learn to go deeper and stay longer for those fun dives. Stay safe and have fun!
Nice! Once you’re past the initial thresholds there is no looking back! Been freediving my entire life (almost) and to me it’s second nature to be in and under the water holding my breath. Looking forward to seeing more! And really good advice at the end. Stay safe! 👍🏽😀
@@priktop8440 me? Best I’ve done is 6 mins, but that were I have drawn my own line for safety. Same with depth, 35 meters is the deepest I’ve done but mostly because I’m a careful guy. 😀
Hi Laurie, I really enjoy your videos and I hope whatever the RUclips algorithm is doing with your views that it will change soon again! Your content is awesome and would deserve way more subscribers.
very cool. i did mine last year with two pros. day 1 in the pool, 30 seconds and I was terrible compared to the entire class (I was the oldest also), day 3 I did 3 mins 10.... I was the only one that made it down to 60 for the graduation and I was soooooo elated.....i need to continue practicing.. very cool video
Hello , all the things u went through happened to me in my freediving course everything u did was the same for me from holding ur breath for 1 min and 58 sec to free immersion 8 meters to equalization problems but thankfully i improved after some practice i fixed my equalization issues i was using valsalva now im using frenzel and from 1 min 58sec to 4 min 45 sec and to depth of 35 meters and now im a certified freediver from CMAS
Thinking that the air comes out through the ears is a big misconception 😂 If so, bubbles would be seen escaping from the ears. What you essentially do is increasing the pressure in your middle ear through the Eustachian tubes, to match it with the pressure outside. Great video, btw!
His first time is actually very impressive. I have to do breathing techniques to even get close to 2 minutes. I do agree that hyperventilating is dangerous and bad practice even though it is a quick way to get longer breath hold times.
Recently i went to the free-diving course, i had a bit of experience before, i was diving for like 6-7 meters in the sea, but on the course i did almost all in 1 attempt, and on third day i did 15 meters, rescue from 10 meters and other requirements for level 1
I did 32 meters alone as always and I thought myself. It's the best just to be there alone and no stress about anyone being there. Just you and the fishes and no worries about anything
Your teacher failing to instruct you to perform the Valsalva maneuver in order to equalize your ears was irresponsible. That's how you cause barotrauma to your ears.
Uhhh no… there’s no way he made it down 8 meters without equalizing. Just cause it wasn’t expressly taught/shown in the video doesn’t mean they didn’t go over it.
for me scuba diving is such an expensive hobby but its my lifedream to scuba dive around the globe, explore the sea life and the world in the depths of our ocean. Should I go with freediving? Is it better if I dont have thousands of dollars for a hobby?
I was diving recently in turkiye. Just for fun and to take some videos with my gopro. I thought it is normal but maybe im the only one. I can feel my ear after like 40cm. Then I feel slight pain after maybe 1,5-2m about 3,5m the pain i really really strong. It was my first time and I didnt know how to regulate the pressure. Do I need practice or are there some kind of people who cant dive ?
not very good with american court but im sure that not teaching you how to equalize pressure in your ears falls into some endangerment that you could sue for, not saying that you should but its kinda wild how the instructor just ignored that
You are not a beginner because the average person wouldn't have been able to hold their breath that long and they'd probably be scared at first. Not to mention you didnt freak out over the seals. You didn't dive without any experience. They gave you a lot of information
It looks like you’re falling in love. I started Freediving a year ago and it’s changed my life. There will be ups and downs, but as long as you approach the downs with curiosity and continue that love for problem solving… you’ll slowly make progress.
I have no issues with equalization, my main problem is that when I hold my breath and fill my lungs, air pushes on my throat and hurts, is there any tip to prevent that?

Happy For You! You will love this sport for life. The Ocean is so fast and peaceful. I learned Freediving from the Badjaos in the Philippines in 1980. I used a different technic of breathing. I usually dive alone but please never dive alone if you're not confident with yourself. Positivity is a must in Freediving. Take Care Bro!

Agree on this one! I had my intro in freediving last weekend but I am not relax thats why I cant hold my breath for too long time.

Wonderful! Thanks mate!
That's awesome. Pool practice is a great way to become more comfortable with breath holds. Make sure to never freedive alone, whatever you do.

So awesome! Roll on Part 2 🎉🎉🎉
Woohoo! Coming sunday 🤟
I’m feeling anxiety about drowning just watching this video. God bless those who want to learn to free dive.
man i barely can even hold my breath for 30 seconds
Nice video! congrats on the improvement and attitude. Very inspiring!!
What is the mask you are using in the dives??
second try almost 2 minutes?!?! seems really good
🙌❤️
You’re some man Loz, great content

good video sir, i can't get past 5 meters same as you. happy to see you get to 10 meters.. cant wait for part 2.. watching from the Philippines..
Woohoo!
Great video! Awesome editing and a great story… Keep it up.
Free diving looks incredible. I am very jealous haha
Thank you bro! 🙌💙

1 minute 58!? Bro i know when your older you can naturally hold your breath longer but still thats really good i can only hold mine for about 30-45

Ah I wanna go free diving with Whale Sharks in Indonesia!!
I did 32 meters alone as always and I thought myself. It's the best just to be there alone and no stress about anyone being there. Just you and the fishes and no worries about anything

awesome progress! did you stick to only co2/o2 tables for exercises? and how much did your breathhold time improve in a month
Thanks bro! Yeah mostly, and breath hold testing will be shown in Part 2 which comes out in 2 days!
This was literally me when I first started freediving. Now its second nature and i hands free equalze naturally, who knew:)
Wow.. I hope i could also train freediving so i can upgrade my diving skills properly..
Good luck bro!
Your teacher failing to instruct you to perform the Valsalva maneuver in order to equalize your ears was irresponsible. That's how you cause barotrauma to your ears.
That was just the test in the beginning. 😂
Uhhh no… there’s no way he made it down 8 meters without equalizing. Just cause it wasn’t expressly taught/shown in the video doesn’t mean they didn’t go over it.
We use Frenzel, not Valsalva, to equalize. It's one of the first things an instructor teaches.
Love your videos the last dive i did was in a 32 pound silicone mermaid tail
Oh wow! 🙌💙
Advice...don't hire Dan unless you want to bust your ear drum at 10m. You have to equalize properly.
It's great seeing Antoine Griezmann also training to be a freediver 😁
Man I love freediving
The more you are physically fit and healthy, you will rest in the sea, and this is what exercises provide.
Great! I cant even hold my breath for 20secs. How did u do that?
this is awesome
🙌💙
I swear if I see a bunch of titanic memes ima lose it💀
Is that a bad start - ‘ mate it’s a great start yeah yeah…my first course I did 2 mins’ 😂
Huge vibes

love this docu

Since i learned freedive i never get bored in the water.
This video is gonna go viral in 2030
this is sooo entertaining
Great work! With your capacity you can get down to 30m. Its all in your mind :)
Thanks bro!

It sucks because I always wanted to scuba dive but none of the ear pressure clear things worked for me
Can we use earplugs or not?
I love diving
i thought i was at a good start with holding my breath for 1:30, but prolly its bc of smoking
Do you have to be very lean to feeedive?
hey laurie can i see your eye foe a sec lol its cool
I still can't get past 10m. I think it may do with my deviated septum and allergies :(
Ah 😢 maybe try contacting Freediving central?
bro you can hold your breath as much as me or even more with ease... And i dive at least 25m with fins
oops guess ive been breaking that advice all my life cause i taught myself to freedive haha
U never said what fixed the problem? How did u get past 7m? Im stuck at 7 also! What fixed the problem in your opinion?
Nice vid

The first dive at the harbour was not safe without a line to the rope...a big no no

am an amazing swimmer but i cant hold my breath for shit lol

I went 19,2 meters deep for my first time, Im 15
Awesome!
and then there's me, feeling the pressure even at around 1.5/2 meters... I could push myself at around 7 meters, but still... and equalizing does nothing for me :\
I dont understand how snorkels work...at such a deep level ?
The snorkels only work for breathing at the surface, when you go deep, you take it out of your mouth.
If ur still having problems i can help u
yop
26 feet would still seem scary to me
Ngl this is pretty good but I got 23m on my first day
30 days training is a lot
