Still going to love and support her!! Saw her twice during the Christmas shows and at LA Pride. Late 2023 definitely was an improvement and shows she’s still capable.
It is what it is. It’s all of this and so much is because she did not take care of her voice in the past. Have great voice habits request a lot of time and energy. I think she does choose not to do it. She preffers to drink, and have a normal life. If you wanna take care of your voice you have to live for it! But even if it’s full playback, I STILL BE THERE FOR HER
It's her nodules , which just makes her nodules unpredictable and she has always always had stage freight ever since her voice dropped in Butterfly era due to abuse and nodules.

Generally this happens when her voice is transitioning. 1998-2000, 2006-2008, and it seems like 2022-2024 is another transition. You can tell because her voice is changing between a brand new more rested tone and the metallic tone we hear since caution. That’s at least what I think.
There's a reason Music Box is her best-selling album because people like that dark, rounded voice from that era. I don't know why she prefers that girly strain tone. Her best moments are with open throat technique (music box, charmbracelet, Beacon theater)
Vocally speaking, Music box is not the best tour that she has done. It must be MSG 1995 when she was consistent up to F5s/F#5s, and fuller head voice up to A5.

Mariah doesn't typically work with vocal coach to make improvements, but she does manage her voice in other ways.

I’ll forever support her. But I feel like the problem is she never rests her voice. She is a workaholic and after so many years singing songs like vision of love and hero just to name a few the damage is going to take place. Her voice is more fragile than some other singers on her level to / Whitney, Celine. You can just hear it in her tone. Her voice has so many layers to it, but it’s always been fragile just do to the nodules among other things.
She's also a known alcoholic whos had several nose jobs and she always wears a corset/cincher (all of which affect the voice). Let's be real here if you're going to mention the reasons she can't sing anymore...
With all due respect, I feel like the pandemic has shown that resting her voice no longer has the same effect that it once did. In mid-2023 I think she realized that and changed something to bring more consistency to her voice.
She's been through a lot of health and mental issues so now here she is. But we are blessed that she's still with us. And we will always be grateful for what she has contributed to the world of music. Just wish her the best.

must be so frustrating (and possibly even painful) to not being able to sing your own songs anymore but still having to show up on stage with a smile. i am sure it's not a good feeling for her, she probably knows that people know something is wrong. i just wish she were a bit more open to talk about her struggles! videos from the last xmas tour are actually concerning.
As a singer myself, I had a period of about 8 months where my voice just didn’t work the way it used to. I visited a doctor, nothing was visually wrong. Idk what it was to this day, but it just naturally fixed. That being said, those 8 months were devastating because I figured I would never reach a good point again. Mariah is certainly devastated in her vocal state, but she projects in order to avoid those feelings. I love her, she’s my ride or die, and I hope she can be honest with herself.
She absolutely knows. It must be absolutely heartbreaking for her. I know how it makes me feel hearing what it was and what it is.. I can only imagine she feels that 10 fold 😞
We know vocal rest doesn't prevent vocal damage. She needs to exercise her vocals under the supervision of a professional, avoid alcohol (she won't), tabagism or weed, be physically active, do anti-inflamatory medicaments and to do a follow up with doctors and speech therapists. However, due to her time of career and age or uninterest, as long as it takes discipline, she won't do any of this, and her voice will decline even more
I think she has made some lifestyle changes before the Christmas tour. We can speculate, but it seems like she does notice the issue and is working to improve things.
Watched this multiple times since the time when this was uploaded and it's such a relief seeing her sing Miss You Most in Dec 2023 with better control and basically a rested voice
In my (highly unqualified, unnecessary) opinion, she needs to give in and lower the songs. I genuinely don't think her voice is 'bad', it's just aged and she needs to move the songs with it. For example, the highest live note she can hit on a good day is ~D5, so why perform Always Be My Baby in the original key if the highest note is an F5? Small adjustments like that I believe would help, and any lambs that get annoyed by the changes will likely be happy once they hear how much more confident she sounds. EDIT: Forgot to mention, one of the things that put me onto thinking this is her lipping the chorus to Don't Forget About Us.
We lambs have been saying this for a long time. Apparently, she is very resistant to doing so. Most of the songs she never lowered the key since the first performance. Usually, she only adds more lipsynching to the highest notes instead of lowering the keys. The last song I remember she lowered was I'll be there but as it remains high for her so she cut off the concerts.
Agree 10000%. The tone is what should be the priority and she should sing in whatever keys and octaves brings out the best in it. And how cool would it be to think you're never gonna hear the original key of something but then she brings it back because it's a good day 🤌🙌🙏🔥
Yup, been saying/thinking this for a longgggg time. I actually think it would be creatively exciting to do something like that. Lower all the songs, take out all the tracks, and find new ways of delivering each song. Reinvent yourself as a musician. Do something Aretha, your idol, would have done. Every time her voice changed, she not only adjusted to it, but she incorporated it into a key aspect of her style. Mariah has the talent and musicianship to do something like this. I think pride is the problem. It would take a certain level of humility to admit that she can't sing the songs the same way she did at 25. It would force her to acknowledge aging and the passing of time, which as we know terrifies her. But as it stands most songs are lowered anyway. Emotions is a full 3 semitones lower than the studio version, so she's already doing it to some degree. Why not go all the way?
Her falsetto is back😭 I was suprised to see her falsetto is weak during 2022 - mid 2023 bcs she never had a problem with it before🥹 Hopefully she's getting better physically and mentally😢❤
It's not her voice, it's her technique, she concentrates all her resonance in her nose, she doesn't even open her mouth when pronouncing open vowels, that added to a bad air column , causes her voice to sound like that, seeing a vocalist like Mariah have glottis attacks (a very common mistake in people who are just learning to sing) is very sad, I don't know who is advising her in terms of vocal technique, but she should change and stay away from that person as much as possible

She needs real vocal training. She has no access to mixed voice anymore. She is full chesting every belt and that is not sustainable, especially for her delicate voice. She has been on a steady decline for decades because when her voice started to falter in the late 90's to 2000's she started pushing much more to reach notes (even during her better vocal eras in the 2000's and 10's) and never fully lost that bad habit. Her voice is just too fragile to be yelling out these notes, and placing nasally and raising her larynx to sound more girly is not going to cut it anymore. She needs to fully accept her less feminine tone and learn to mix these notes but I fear it isn't a priority to her. I also feel her airy approach to falsetto is causing the inconsistency in that register. So much air passing through your cords is not sustainable. I feel like her style has become either yelling or whispering which are both harmful to her at this point.
The 'Lovers' concert was a complete mess. Her voice sounded exhausted, tired and maybe she was ill? If I turned up and my voice was that off, I would just ask to sing over a track.
I’ve said this before but I really think it’s gotta be menopause. Hormonal changes at her age + medications can really have a huge affect on the voice. That said, she sounded soo much healthier for Christmas but definitely needs retraining
Mariah has always been light on discipline when it comes to training her voice in a regimented way and it’s this lackadaisical attitude to her instrument that has made all her transition periods extra fraught. What a singer can get away with in their 20’s i.e. late nights, not warming up before they sing etc. cannot be gotten away with past a certain point. Esp’ when bad habits like pushing become entrenched. It appears Mariah has no idea what is going to come out night after night because there’s no investigation prior to taking the stage beyond a few quick lip trills to see if the whistle is present or not. I doubt in many cases there is even a thorough warm up. One can’t approach their voice like this and think it will support them through a 90 x minute concert. Additionally, approaching the voice like this in general will make processing and adapting to any changes in the voice that much harder. Ps. Mariah DID sound healthier across her Christmas shows, which was great to hear🙌🏾
@@damyanthelion I agree with this whole assessment. I'd add that she's shown she's capable of doing the work if her she absolutely needs to. Like when she got all that flack from those string of not so good 2013/2014 performances, got help, and was in better vocal condition for those Beacon Theater 2014 performances. It's frustrating that she can simply do the work but chooses not to.

However, Mariah has turned herself into a touring stalwart who’s never far from a stage so the lack of training, coupled with constant live performing has left her no option but to constantly have to “manufacture” notes, however she’s able to in order to get them to come out = Squeaking, shouting, pushing, whispering, growling, glottal-stop riffing; all her bad habits are out in force and her insistence on touring means she’s baked many of them into her technique🤦🏽♂️

Her touring is a thing some people don't realize is a big issue. At least in the 90's and early 00's she could release an album, do the initial promotion for it (interviews, performances, music videos, etc), follow up with a tour, and then, for the most part, be able to relax and start recording the next album. From like the '10's and on she's been on constant tours with proper vocal health. And yes I find comfort in knowing her voice isn't completely gone & can sound healthy when either trained like the Beacon Theater 2014 concerts or just when everything aligns. One of her best concerts in the past like ten years imo was that 2015 concert Jamaica her backing track fiasco. Idk if it was the combo of the humidity in Jamaica & whatever she drank or ate but after dealt with said fiasco, she came back onstage she seemed free and went & hit some solid notes.
I feel like her voice just keeps dropping. Like she can still hit all of the notes but her comfortable range keeps getting lower and lower - she consistently sounds uncomfortable above G4. I don’t think it’s an issue of technique or approach, just a voice change that hopefully she’ll be able to adapt to.
It’s definitely an issue of technique. Her voice isn’t just naturally switching between the girly Caution tones and the debut-like lower tones. You can hear the difference in placements.
There was a part on the « it’s timeeeeee » video but RUclips wasn’t happy about it so I had to cut it off the video sorry guys In this part I said that she teased us with her new tour and said in some interviews that new music was on the way.
Ignoring her voice condition I just miss her energetic and happy vibe. Now she looks miserable all the time and almost as if she doesn’t want to even be on stage or anywhere anymore
After watching her late 2023 performances and knowing she's going to perform in Vegas again, this makes me very excited. Her voice usually gets better when she performs more often. Hopefully, knowing her voice is getting more and more fragile, i hope she rests her voice and takes care of that asset really well before and during her Vegas show.
I think she should take a long break from live performances. As long as she needs. Or even retire definitely. She is the biggest legend alive in the music industry. It's so sad to see her delivering this kind of performance.

Vocal DOCTORS (professionals not “fans”) have told her not to get them surgically removed so y’all have to get use to it or just hush cause the complaining is tired atp. Hell no, that's how we get another 'I'm sorry you didn't like it' and Mariah stops performing with confidence. Her voice is part of her body, she knows what's happening with it. Unfortunately there's no magic button that undoes years of vocal damage *and* nodules, but she's clearly working on it.

I’ve always been a massive fan. I sang a Mariah lullaby at 4 years old to my baby brother. Personally I wouldn’t pay now to watch her in concert. Her voice has lost it’s emotional connection. It doesn’t move me the same anymore.
In the space of 10 years, Mariah's voice has deteriorated incredibly. It is clear that the aging process, in itself, brings vocal damage. But it's not just that. The way she always sang and probably her lifestyle also damaged her voice. She would need to find a new way of singing that adapts to her current reality, make new arrangements for her songs and stop wanting to be forever young. We can only be who we are and at the age we are.
Her Christmas shows were a significant improvement. Her middle voice definitely sounded much healthier and connected where in 2022, it was not good. The issue I think it stems is she just doesn’t have the confidence to really sing live when she’s had era’s where her voice was in bad shape, so she relies on lipping and doesn’t really rehearse. So when she tries to go for a big vocal moment it’s a hit or miss because she hasn’t practiced or adjusted with her vocal condition. She definitely needs to put more effort into these live performances and get more vocal help, but she’s on a better track than she was in 2022.
There's an inverse ratio between Mariah's chest-head (natural) voice and her whistle register. The stronger the whistle -> the weaker her chest-belting-head register
Mariah has always had problems with consistency, but it's more painful when the most consistent part of her voice only the extremities. F#3 and F$6 seems less of a gamble than F#4, even though by nature, one's midrange is supposed to be where they are most reliable in.
She needs nodules removed by surgery but refuses as a wrong move could permanently damage her voice. It would require a very experienced surgeon. Many would turn her down because of the risk and lawsuit potential.
I don't want a lot for Christmas except for *LIVE* vocals - give us the off key notes, the sharp notes, the inconsistent notes, the dodges, just give us *LIVE*.
The greatest issue with Mariah has always been lack of discipline with training her instrument and also heavy drinking which dries out your voice. That's not even considering the nodules she's always had and have probably gotten worse with age. I honestly she should just lip all the time now because I now genuinely believe her voice is gone, she's proved herself enough. It's just a shame because in lockdown she was singing Emancipation songs acapella with such a clear voice so hopefully we still get a studio album with those vocals but live singing? That's in the past now because even the most simple phrases even a child can sing she doesn't execute and that's nothing to do with the notes but simply lack of breath support and freedom.

She can easily fix it by learning how to bring falsetto to the chest, mixing allows for easier access to high belts. Just like Patti, sounds dry and cut for chezt belts but her high belts using mixed Register sounds incredibly powerful
This is definitely due to her nodules. You can see even when she belts with decent-great technique rasp sometimes creeps into her voice message past G4, and you can see it's hard for her to maintain a good coordination, when it would of been a piece of cake in the past years. She needs to get surgery or EXTENSIVE rest. But rest probably won't help cause it seems like her nodules have calcified, which causes the bad raspiness.
I think she needs more rest paired with retraining. She can also opt for more intimate shows with lesser dates. She's already proven herself and we all know that. Mariah is getting older and her body will have a harder time adjusting to whatever's happening around her. I love her sm and I want her to sing as much as she could without sacrificing her health.
She still has her instrument but she really needs more rest and vocal coach and lessons, she has to work on her confidence remenbering what she was able to do may be by re-watching her past shows.(1996-tokyio dome)
Mariah is getting older that's just it. She can still sing her ass off. I don't expect myself to sound the same at 54 as I do now at 36. I know I sound differently now than I did in my teens and early 20s. Celine Dion doesn't sound the same now as she did in her 20s and 30s. Your voice starts changing in your late 30s. As I get closer to 40 myself I am finding certain notes I could effortlessly hit and hold out are harder now. Your breathing capacity changes as you get older. You can't sustain long notes not with out sacrificing stability as you get older that's why you hear people 40 and over sing with a lot of vibrato. Your 20s and 30s are your golden years vocally. Having a good voice requires a lot of training, and a lot of work to maintain and keep but all the training in the world can't stop your voice from aging with your body.
Age has nothing to do with it 💀, i encourage you to do some research and see how trained singer can still sing at 50 to 80, hitting D5 and G5 notes like nothing
We are not expecting her to sing like she was 20. We just expect her to sing like she did in 2019. She dropped quality vocally very fast. It's not possible to be only because of aging.

I didn’t think this year was this bad. This was horrible. Mariah needs vocal coaching and/or vocal surgery. This is consistently bad especially since we know how great she is

Her lows and mid belts are actually really good but she isn’t changing her music to fully utilize them. Her tone is not good to me. She sounds uncomfortable all the time, and she is nasal and throaty even when she is not belting. Her biggest offense is the lipping. She went way too far this year. She could get a pass if she cleverly rearranged her songs and sung at least 90% of her set list. To top it off, her stage presence is horrible. We can love someone and be honest about them. I don't think rest is what Mariah needs, but perhaps therapy. Most of the time she's on stage, even when she's more energetic, she looks concerned about whether her voice will work for or against her and we know that stress can affect the vocal chords like it can affect anything in our bodies. And we can't even blame her for it because we know Mariah has gathered a lot of issues due to how she was treated by the industry and the press over the years. People love to tear her down and very few sing her praises and, even if it was the other way around, we know we always latch onto the negativity and take it with us (and people can be brutal when it comes to Mariah even when their faves and their faves's mamas are most likely Mariah's fans). I think she has a lot of things to parse through so that she can allow herself to take the steps to recover. But gotta believe her and that there are people around her that have her best interest in mind! More than to us or anyone else, I think she owes to herself the chance to go back on a stage confidently and have fun without stressing about her voice or her image~
I really don't know what's going on but I guess it has to do with most of her outfit? Seems whenever she is doing shorts / reel at the comfort of her own house. She sings well. And when she perform on stage with a corseted dress she's shaky and lack of support.

Still going to love and support her!! Saw her twice during the Christmas shows and at LA Pride. Late 2023 definitely was an improvement and shows she’s still capable.

Generally this happens when her voice is transitioning. 1998-2000, 2006-2008, and it seems like 2022-2024 is another transition. You can tell because her voice is changing between a brand new more rested tone and the metallic tone we hear since caution. That’s at least what I think.
Its interesting how much more apparent her tone changes are after her prime.
Well, she sounded “metallic” in her Abu Dhabi concert because the humidity here is VERY low now!
Her voice has been changing every year, she just adapts her musicality to it.

There's a reason Music Box is her best-selling album because people like that dark, rounded voice from that era. I don't know why she prefers that girly strain tone. Her best moments are with open throat technique (music box, charmbracelet, Beacon theater)
Vocally speaking, Music box is not the best tour that she has done. It must be MSG 1995 when she was consistent up to F5s/F#5s, and fuller head voice up to A5.

Mariah doesn't typically work with vocal coach to make improvements, but she does manage her voice in other ways.

I’ll forever support her. But I feel like the problem is she never rests her voice. She is a workaholic and after so many years singing songs like vision of love and hero just to name a few the damage is going to take place. Her voice is more fragile than some other singers on her level to / Whitney, Celine. You can just hear it in her tone. Her voice has so many layers to it, but it’s always been fragile just do to the nodules among other things.
The vocal cords with nodules are not are extremely fragile, everything affects them, the air, humidity, body temperature everything
She's also a known alcoholic whos had several nose jobs and she always wears a corset/cincher (all of which affect the voice). Let's be real here if you're going to mention the reasons she can't sing anymore...
With all due respect, I feel like the pandemic has shown that resting her voice no longer has the same effect that it once did. In mid-2023 I think she realized that and changed something to bring more consistency to her voice.

She's been through a lot of health and mental issues so now here she is. But we are blessed that she's still with us. And we will always be grateful for what she has contributed to the world of music. Just wish her the best.
I watched her in Boston (Christmas) and I can say that her voice sounded much better and healthier than it did some time ago. I was impressed.

As a singer myself, I had a period of about 8 months where my voice just didn’t work the way it used to. I visited a doctor, nothing was visually wrong. Idk what it was to this day, but it just naturally fixed. That being said, those 8 months were devastating because I figured I would never reach a good point again. Mariah is certainly devastated in her vocal state, but she projects in order to avoid those feelings. I love her, she’s my ride or die, and I hope she can be honest with herself.

We know vocal rest doesn't prevent vocal damage. She needs to exercise her vocals under the supervision of a professional, avoid alcohol (she won't), tabagism or weed, be physically active, do anti-inflamatory medicaments and to do a follow up with doctors and speech therapists. However, due to her time of career and age or uninterest, as long as it takes discipline, she won't do any of this, and her voice will decline even more
I think she has made some lifestyle changes before the Christmas tour. We can speculate, but it seems like she does notice the issue and is working to improve things.

Watched this multiple times since the time when this was uploaded and it's such a relief seeing her sing Miss You Most in Dec 2023 with better control and basically a rested voice
In my (highly unqualified, unnecessary) opinion, she needs to give in and lower the songs. I genuinely don't think her voice is 'bad', it's just aged and she needs to move the songs with it. For example, the highest live note she can hit on a good day is ~D5, so why perform Always Be My Baby in the original key if the highest note is an F5? Small adjustments like that I believe would help, and any lambs that get annoyed by the changes will likely be happy once they hear how much more confident she sounds.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, one of the things that put me onto thinking this is her lipping the chorus to Don't Forget About Us.
We lambs have been saying this for a long time. Apparently, she is very resistant to doing so. Most of the songs she never lowered the key since the first performance. Usually, she only adds more lipsynching to the highest notes instead of lowering the keys. The last song I remember she lowered was I'll be there but as it remains high for her so she cut off the concerts.
Agree 10000%. The tone is what should be the priority and she should sing in whatever keys and octaves brings out the best in it. And how cool would it be to think you're never gonna hear the original key of something but then she brings it back because it's a good day 🤌🙌🙏🔥
Yup, been saying/thinking this for a longgggg time. I actually think it would be creatively exciting to do something like that. Lower all the songs, take out all the tracks, and find new ways of delivering each song. Reinvent yourself as a musician. Do something Aretha, your idol, would have done. Every time her voice changed, she not only adjusted to it, but she incorporated it into a key aspect of her style. Mariah has the talent and musicianship to do something like this. I think pride is the problem. It would take a certain level of humility to admit that she can't sing the songs the same way she did at 25. It would force her to acknowledge aging and the passing of time, which as we know terrifies her. But as it stands most songs are lowered anyway. Emotions is a full 3 semitones lower than the studio version, so she's already doing it to some degree. Why not go all the way?

It's not her voice, it's her technique, she concentrates all her resonance in her nose, she doesn't even open her mouth when pronouncing open vowels, that added to a bad air column , causes her voice to sound like that, seeing a vocalist like Mariah have glottis attacks (a very common mistake in people who are just learning to sing) is very sad, I don't know who is advising her in terms of vocal technique, but she should change and stay away from that person as much as possible
A few unnecessary comments but basically her voice sounded way more stable by the end of the year and a thousand percent better than 2022.

She needs real vocal training. She has no access to mixed voice anymore. She is full chesting every belt and that is not sustainable, especially for her delicate voice. She has been on a steady decline for decades because when her voice started to falter in the late 90's to 2000's she started pushing much more to reach notes (even during her better vocal eras in the 2000's and 10's) and never fully lost that bad habit. Her voice is just too fragile to be yelling out these notes, and placing nasally and raising her larynx to sound more girly is not going to cut it anymore. She needs to fully accept her less feminine tone and learn to mix these notes but I fear it isn't a priority to her. I also feel her airy approach to falsetto is causing the inconsistency in that register. So much air passing through your cords is not sustainable. I feel like her style has become either yelling or whispering which are both harmful to her at this point.

I’ve said this before but I really think it’s gotta be menopause. Hormonal changes at her age + medications can really have a huge affect on the voice. That said, she sounded soo much healthier for Christmas but definitely needs retraining
Mariah has always been light on discipline when it comes to training her voice in a regimented way and it’s this lackadaisical attitude to her instrument that has made all her transition periods extra fraught.
What a singer can get away with in their 20’s i.e. late nights, not warming up before they sing etc. cannot be gotten away with past a certain point. Esp’ when bad habits like pushing become entrenched.
It appears Mariah has no idea what is going to come out night after night because there’s no investigation prior to taking the stage beyond a few quick lip trills to see if the whistle is present or not. I doubt in many cases there is even a thorough warm up.
One can’t approach their voice like this and think it will support them through a 90 x minute concert. Additionally, approaching the voice like this in general will make processing and adapting to any changes in the voice that much harder.

Like when she got all that flack from those string of not so good 2013/2014 performances, got help, and was in better vocal condition for those Beacon Theater 2014 performances. Somehow, both Mariah and a good portion of the Lambs have convinced themselves rest is all that’s required but that’s just not enough when you’ve come to rely on so many bad habits. Singing is a system of mechanics and Mariah has allowed her singing mechanism to deteriorate. This is fine, singers don’t need to remain at optimum at all times.
However, Mariah has turned herself into a touring stalwart who’s never far from a stage so the lack of training, coupled with constant live performing has left her no option but to constantly have to “manufacture” notes, however she’s able to in order to get them to come out = Squeaking, shouting, pushing, whispering, growling, glottal-stop riffing; all her bad habits are out in force and her insistence on touring means she’s baked many of them into her technique🤦🏽♂️

Her touring is a thing some people don't realize is a big issue. At least in the 90's and early 00's she could release an album, do the initial promotion for it (interviews, performances, music videos, etc), follow up with a tour, and then, for the most part, be able to relax and start recording the next album. From like the '10's and on she's been on constant tours with proper vocal health.
And yes I find comfort in knowing her voice isn't completely gone & can sound healthy when either trained like the Beacon Theater 2014 concerts or just when everything aligns. One of her best concerts in the past like ten years imo was that 2015 concert Jamaica her backing track fiasco. Idk if it was the combo of the humidity in Jamaica & whatever she drank or ate but after dealt with said fiasco, she came back onstage she seemed free and went & hit some solid notes.
I feel like her voice just keeps dropping. Like she can still hit all of the notes but her comfortable range keeps getting lower and lower - she consistently sounds uncomfortable above G4. I don’t think it’s an issue of technique or approach, just a voice change that hopefully she’ll be able to adapt to.
It’s definitely an issue of technique. Her voice isn’t just naturally switching between the girly Caution tones and the debut-like lower tones. You can hear the difference in placements.

After watching her late 2023 performances and knowing she's going to perform in Vegas again, this makes me very excited. Her voice usually gets better when she performs more often. Vocal DOCTORS (professionals not “fans”) have told her not to get them surgically removed so y’all have to get use to it or just hush cause the complaining is tired atp. I’ve always been a massive fan. I sang a Mariah lullaby at 4 years old to my baby brother. Personally I wouldn’t pay now to watch her in concert. Her voice has lost it’s emotional connection. It doesn’t move me the same anymore.
hero “feel” - it’s been my frustration on her performances of Hero for a while but got worse since 2022
In the space of 10 years, Mariah's voice has deteriorated incredibly. It is clear that the aging process, in itself, brings vocal damage. But it's not just that. The way she always sang and probably her lifestyle also damaged her voice. She would need to find a new way of singing that adapts to her current reality, make new arrangements for her songs and stop wanting to be forever young. We can only be who we are and at the age we are.
Her Christmas shows were a significant improvement. Her middle voice definitely sounded much healthier and connected where in 2022, it was not good. The issue I think it stems is she just doesn’t have the confidence to really sing live when she’s had era’s where her voice was in bad shape, so she relies on lipping and doesn’t really rehearse. So when she tries to go for a big vocal moment it’s a hit or miss because she hasn’t practiced or adjusted with her vocal condition. She definitely needs to put more effort into these live performances and get more vocal help, but she’s on a better track than she was in 2022.

There's an inverse ratio between Mariah's chest-head (natural) voice and her whistle register.
The stronger the whistle -> the weaker her chest-belting-head register
Mariah has always had problems with consistency, but it's more painful when the most consistent part of her voice only the extremities. F#3 and F$6 seems less of a gamble than F#4, even though by nature, one's midrange is supposed to be where they are most reliable in.

She needs nodules removed by surgery but refuses as a wrong move could permanently damage her voice. It would require a very experienced surgeon. Many would turn her down because of the risk and lawsuit potential.

The greatest issue with Mariah has always been lack of discipline with training her instrument and also heavy drinking which dries out your voice. That's not even considering the nodules she's always had and have probably gotten worse with age. I honestly she should just lip all the time now because I now genuinely believe her voice is gone, she's proved herself enough. It's just a shame because in lockdown she was singing Emancipation songs acapella with such a clear voice so hopefully we still get a studio album with those vocals but live singing? That's in the past now because even the most simple phrases even a child can sing she doesn't execute and that's nothing to do with the notes but simply lack of breath support and freedom.

She can easily fix it by learning how to bring falsetto to the chest, mixing allows for easier access to high belts. Just like Patti, sounds dry and cut for chezt belts but her high belts using mixed Register sounds incredibly powerful
This is definitely due to her nodules. You can see even when she belts with decent-great technique rasp sometimes creeps into her voice message past G4, and you can see it's hard for her to maintain a good coordination, when it would of been a piece of cake in the past years. She needs to get surgery or EXTENSIVE rest. But rest probably won't help cause it seems like her nodules have calcified, which causes the bad raspiness.
I think she needs more rest paired with retraining. She can also opt for more intimate shows with lesser dates. She's already proven herself and we all know that. Mariah is getting older and her body will have a harder time adjusting to whatever's happening around her. I love her sm and I want her to sing as much as she could without sacrificing her health.
She still has her instrument but she really needs more rest and vocal coach and lessons, she has to work on her confidence remenbering what she was able to do may be by re-watching her past shows.(1996-tokyio dome)
Mariah is getting older that's just it. She can still sing her ass off. I don't expect myself to sound the same at 54 as I do now at 36. I know I sound differently now than I did in my teens and early 20s. Celine Dion doesn't sound the same now as she did in her 20s and 30s. Your voice starts changing in your late 30s. As I get closer to 40 myself I am finding certain notes I could effortlessly hit and hold out are harder now. Your breathing capacity changes as you get older. You can't sustain long notes not with out sacrificing stability as you get older that's why you hear people 40 and over sing with a lot of vibrato.
Your 20s and 30s are your golden years vocally. Having a good voice requires a lot of training, and a lot of work to maintain and keep but all the training in the world can't stop your voice from aging with your body.

We are not expecting her to sing like she was 20. We just expect her to sing like she did in 2019. She dropped quality vocally very fast. It's not possible to be only because of aging.

I didn’t think this year was this bad. This was horrible. Mariah needs vocal coaching and/or vocal surgery. This is consistently bad especially since we know how great she is

It wasn’t horrible at all, the vibrato is still there, the runs are there, the lows, the tone, the chest voice, the head voice, the whistle, THE ONLY PROBLEM is her belting register especially her upper register
@@MariahIsolated I respect YOUR opinion, but let’s be for real. Her belting range, which is her most used range, has deteriorated completely. Everything above A4/B4 is strained. Her lows and mid belts are actually really good but she isn’t changing her music to fully utilize them. Her tone is not good to me. She sounds uncomfortable all the time, and she is nasal and throaty even when she is not belting. Her biggest offense is the lipping. She went way too far this year. She could get a pass if she cleverly rearranged her songs and sung at least 90% of her set list. To top it off, her stage presence is horrible. We can love someone and be honest about them. Let’s stop acting like it’s age and nodules that allow her to get a pass. She needs vocal coaching asap

She's given the world enough "good performances, videos, and songs," that she's entitled to not do so well after over 30 years of pushing herself more than a ton of artists. We know who Mariah Carey is and we're her fans for a reason. Her flops are okay. We love her for so many other reasons so pointing out times where she's struggling doesn't mean a thing. I honestly think her mic needs to be turned up… she doesn’t have the same power she used to.
I don’t understand why in this video, you don’t comment about the good vocals, it’s like you wait for a not so good moment and then point that out, even if she was slaying prior to that. Yall are a toxin to the lambily. Mariah is her biggest critic, and to have people like you that publicly shame her vocals, as if she doesn’t know what’s going on, is one of the most despicable things. And even after she herself said that she doesn’t like these videos because they make her sad, you “false fans”, continue to push this out. Mariah is going through a lot that we know about like her breakup and a lot that we don’t know about. How about not participating in the problem, and send her love and support.

I am not here to say « Mariah is amazing » when she’s not. People want to know why I did this video ? I did it because I wanted to give an overall view of 2023. I am a fan, I have always been. And even if Mariah watches, I am not spreading hate around her, I am just saying the truth about what happened. + I Also pointed out very good vocal moments later in 2023, you have no idea how much excited I was watching these Christmas shows ! The thing is she just didn’t take advantage of the voice she had this Christmas. I wish Mariah the best for 2024 and even if she sounds bad, I will always love her

I don't think rest is what Mariah needs, but perhaps therapy. Most of the time she's on stage, even when she's more energetic, she looks concerned about whether her voice will work for or against her and we know that stress can affect the vocal chords like it can affect anything in our bodies. And we can't even blame her for it because we know Mariah has gathered a lot of issues due to how she was treated by the industry and the press over the years. People love to tear her down and very few sing her praises and, even if it was the other way around, we know we always latch onto the negativity and take it with us (and people can be brutal when it comes to Mariah even when their faves and their faves's mamas are most likely Mariah's fans). I think she has a lot of things to parse through so that she can allow herself to take the steps to recover. But gotta believe her and that there are people around her that have her best interest in mind! More than to us or anyone else, I think she owes to herself the chance to go back on a stage confidently and have fun without stressing about her voice or her image~
I really don't know what's going on but I guess it has to do with most of her outfit? Seems whenever she is doing shorts / reel at the comfort of her own house. She sings well. And when she perform on stage with a corseted dress she's shaky and lack of support.
