Sorry you didn’t end up enjoying this game that much. Gonna be honest, this is actually one of my favorite RPGs just due to the relative simplicity and speed of it. While, as you said, this game is in its own little continuity, I can still explain the "aging" of reploids as depicted in the main timeline. In the Zero series, there's an old-man Reploid named Andrew, who was originally built as a youthful man, but decided to remodel his appearance in order to match that of his progressively older human wife. So no, reploids don't physically age, but rebuilding them to simulate the human aging process is a thing. Plus, by the time of the ZX series, reploids are actually required by law to have a "death date" installed to make them equal to humans. There's no mention if visually simulating the aging process became mandatory as well though.
This game was fairly good when I played it. For one thing, new characters who actually fight on the frontlines alongside X, Zero, and Axl the Maverick Hunter Intern; as opposed to plenty of characters who mostly sit on the sidelines or help in the background, or are bosses that have gone Maverick (Or purposely kicked off the plot of MMX4 just to fight X or Zero because reasons). An RPG is the most convenient way to have a large group of characters working together at the same time even though in reality, two of those characters would never survive jumping the countless pits and spikes that exist in MMX in general. Cinnamon is just amazing in this game. Her healing ability will completely bring your health back to full and depending on what she has on her, will always have access to it when her turn comes. On top of that, she's the only character in the game to have a weapon that hits 10 times in a row and has a chance to inflict all the status effects in the game; sort of like a miniaturized marlboro bad breath in the palm of her hand.
I'm interested in the Mega Man Zero marathon. I expect him to question the difficulty lol I wouldn't be surprised if looked at the Zero Collection since it's an improvement of the GBA games.
Yeah, they're as difficult as you want them to be, the stuff locked behing A/S ranks isn't a deal breaker, just some elemental moves Zero already had in X4 and you can use the A+ elves to get some of them if it's too hard.
I love how Jonny ends his videos with some variation of “have a good night”. Idk, but something about the idea of ending at night (even if I’m watching this at noon) leaves a sense of closure that caps off his videos really well..
Its too bad you didnt do the optional bosses as Absolute Zero and Ultimate Armor X are some of the best things about this game, and they also kinda break this game in half.
Johnny, here is the differences between a resistance and a rebellion. The aim of rebellion is to replace one authority (legitimate or illegitimate) with another (legitimate or illegitimate). The aim of resistance is not necessarily to overthrow, but to actively oppose certain actions or rules of an authority or a community, for example discrimination. That's it and you guys have a wonderful night. Til next time.
Aw. You didn't fight the extra bosses? They'll give you X and Zero's second (and BEST) armors! Ultimate X and Absolute Zero! They can really dish it out! I was also really looking forward to you facing the Tails clan (with a few Sonic jokes to boot).
15:29 "Next time I decide to do Mega Man, it'll be with the Zero series." Welp, the Zero series is out now in collection form. I suppose he'll have something for after his Resident Evil and Kirby marathons. eve
I actually quite enjoyed this game. For what it's worth at least. I disagree on it being slightly above Mystic Quest level depth though. If anything, it reminds me most of games like Final Fantasy 4. It has all the "dramatic" clichés and story beats these old turn based jrpgs have. It's got the on and off party members, the dramatic death of a character, the twist villain, the side bosses, the easter egg secrets, the simple dungeon layouts, the whacky yet stereotypical character designs, the npc fodder in the hub worlds, etc.. I like the fact that they took the concept of turn based combat and gave it an (albeit simplistic) twist to it's base mechanics to accomodate for Megaman X mechanics and such, like button presses accessing attacks directly, the hyper mode 'armors' and action triggers, sub-tank energy and force metals, etc. Is it a hidden gem? A noticeably creative role playing game that takes the Megaman X franchise and not only reinvents it from it's core but also deeply explores and enrichesvthe surrounding world of the franchise (Super Mario RPG)? Lmao, hell no. Is it an enjoyable, competent turn based romp for the series? Well, in my opinion, yes. If anyone reading this still feels curious about it, even after watching Johnny's review, I'd say give it a shot. If you love the shit out of pre 2010s turn based JRPGs and love the franchise, I'd say try the game out. You might be surprised. Or not. I don't know, I can't see the future.
As far as I understand, the Gamecube version is superior, not only because of controls, but the loading times are better. The only downside I’ve ever heard is that it has a WAY higher encounter rate, which will drive you crazy in the desert.
I beat this game an hour ago. Yeah, it's ending is bittersweet, but at this point, I've been playing long enough and I don't give a fuck anymore. I've been playing this game since I was 6. Thank You Capcom For 15+ Years Of Mega Man X Memories.💖
7:21 for future confusion, mainline Shin Megami Tensei games(i.e. NOT Persona) use the square button or its equivalent on the platform for the menu while the triangle equivalent is either used as a preemptive combat measure(SMT IV) or unused, the circle equivalent is the confirmation button(SMT IV).
Fun fact this was my first megaman x game, and since it played similarly to final Fantasy x (my first final fantasy game) I love this game despite it's flaws.
Command Mission is actually my first Megaman game. Lol I have been looking forward to this since the beginning of the marathon. But damn I really wish he had fought the optional bosses and especially Ninetails.
Say what? She's always useful with her speed, stealing, and versatility, she gets some good ranged weapons, multi-enemy-hitting weapons, and her Zenny Up and Experience Up weapons make grinding much faster.
Her stealing ability were terrible. Why the hell would you make steal a special attack in the first place? 9 Tails was the only time I used her because he was insanely overpowered
OK, I get that this video was meant to be a quick review, but good god did Johhny miss a lot about the story on this one. Yeah, it's pretty straight forward, but there's a lot you can figure out by sort of "reading between the lines". The moment he mentioned with Ferham? Yeah, there's a LOT more to it than "Botos was an ass to her". You see, if you pay attention to the dialogue of both Epsilon AND Redips, you realize that the whole "Rebellion" thing kind of went down something like this: Redips: I hear you just discovered some sort of mcguffin that allows Reploids to become really fucking powerful. I want some. Epsilon: No. This is only meant to be used as a last resort. It's not for Reploids to use haphazardly. Redips. Oh, so that's how it's going to be? Hey everyone, these guys are all Mavericks! Epsilon: Well great, so much for achieving our goals through diplomacy. I didn't want to have to do things the hard way, but if you insist... You also realize through some of Ferham's dialogue that she legitimately sees Epsilon and Scarface as friends- she doesn't so much "turn" on Redips as she does help X defeat the one ultimately responsible for what happened to her friends. And no, Redips didn't form the Rebellion Army. That was indeed Epsilon's doing... but only AFTER Redips declared them all Mavericks when they refused to share the Supra Force Metal with him. Also, Johnny didn't get to play the Gamecube version- the controls are a lot better there.
Yeah, he either forgot about or didn't pay attention to the story very well, which honestly makes this a pretty skewed review, especially when he urges people to avoid it.
Johnny is pretty guilty of ignoring stories he doesn't care for and then calling them lacking in substance when he's not giving a shit about what's going on. instead of just admitting he wasn't paying much attention and calling it a day.
@@Jackfernando4555 Actually no, he got that right at least. In order to take out multiple enemies in a Final Strike, you have to have reduced multiple enemies to below the FS threshold.
Johnny,You Just Gave me Another Thing to Overthink,Robot Kids,&,I’m 1 of Those People That Will Literally Overthink Everything,Like Transformers,Who Built Cybertron,&,The Very 1st Transformer?Because Someone Had to,so Who Was it?
With all due respect to Johnny, some of the complaints he has aren't as big a deal as he makes them sound. Though most are valid. I loved this game, faults and all, and would recommend it to any Megaman fan with an itch for something a bit less true-to-form. Although I'm sorry to hear that Johnny didn't do the optional bosses. They give Zero and Megaman an extra hyper mode form, each, and the "Absolute Zero" and "Ultimate Armor" hyper modes are fucking cruelly overpowered. The hardest boss in the game has an interesting mechanic where you beat him 9 times with different conditions, getting new rewards each time. The ninth fight is one of the hardest boss fights I've fought in ANY game, and the game knows it. The guy will REVIVE YOUR PARTY FOR YOU if two of your members are dead. That's how OP this guy is. Hopefully Johnny does these boss fights in another video. I would love to see his reaction to the OP forms and cruel uber boss.
2 years later, but I just HAD to comment! Lol You know a boss is ridiculously OP when he feels bad enough to revive your party! Lol I had alot of fun fighting him! Although, I always wondered "If he's so strong (and he IS) How is kept behind those doors?? We saw a simple roid explosion put a huge dent in 1 of those doors earlier on the game. Lol
Played this game over and over for years and never knew he revives you when two party members are dead, wow! Probably because I’d either have only one dead and quickly revive them, or he’d one shot all three in one go haha
Either because they don't care, or because they're saving it for an X Legacy Collection 3. There's a lot of Mega Man Classic games they left out of those collections, too. I can't wait to see how they do the Zero series. It's only 4 games, but they'll find some way to screw it up.
@@num488 The DS Zero colection is as good as the orignal just a slightly difrent tr!anslation, and a much more excesible easy senario since the Zero series is brutaly hard in its orignal form this is a very welcome thing!
I wanted Johnny to look at the X series, and now that it is finally over... I am as satisfied as I'd ever hope to be. Thank you John, wish I could go to the event and meet you.
Finally. Now Johnny getting to the games I absolutely love is a closer possibility. The zero series, the zx series, legends and the battle network series. I know he did Network Transmission...but that's an outlier.
Yeah I'd say that's pretty accurate. Growing up I borrowed this game from a friend, only wanting to play it because it's Mega Man X. I never played any RPGs growing up so this game was a first for me, and I was pretty confused. Young me didn't want to waste time with upgrades, I just wanted to run and shoot. I remember getting up to the boss of Chapter 5 before giving up on the game, since my gear (or limited understanding of RPGs) prevented me from beating the boss. I've dabbled with the game on rare occasion since then, always wanting to play more of it feeling like I missed something, but it seems like your Review put a pretty good dent in what I remember the game to be. It was a drag, it was boring, and it was repetitive. A real shame, though I'm still looking forwards to revisiting it.
And another Megaman marathon is over, man does the time flies fast. It felt like yesterday when Johny made the MM1 video and now we're here ending with MM11 and Command Mission of all things!
While I don't disagree on the plot being bare bones, you missed the point on epsilon. He a lot like magneto in that he wants to set up a safe haven for Mavericks, and he builds what is essentially a nuke as deterrent. Unlike Sigma he is not manipulative of his allies, and genuinely values his comrades. You could argue that he is like General from X4, but a key difference is that Epsilon was not manipulated by the main antagonist.
Man...I wonder what that says about me when you say Command Mission is boring. :/ Command Mission is legit my favorite Mega Man X game, so...I seriously don't know if I just have bad taste or not.
I love X Command Mission too. But Johnny has a very fair point that, as an RPG, it's very barebones. Especially when compared to Battle Network series.
I played the hell out of this one and have fond memories of it. I remember discovering Absolute Zero completely by accident. "Ready to tango with Duck Bill Mole?"
At least out of Command Mission, we got three new characters for the X series! Marino, Cinnamon and Steel Massimo! It would've been cool if they were playable characters other X series games, but alas. Anyways, Cinnamon is a precious Cinnamon Roll.
Naaah. This game is not mediocre by any means, it's awesome on his own form. Not the best but very fun overall with good robot design and superb voice acting. The gameplay is more fun than many modern rpg's. In terms of music I loved most of the tracks. For me, a little gem.
4:00 Don't do that to Mystic Quest: It's an entry-level RPG. I love that more than Command Mission and I got no problem admiring that. 5:15 - I don't know about that one. Hmm. 6:35 - Michael Jackson!
How would you feel about a Diddy Kong Racing sequel that added characters from My Hero Academia, Little Witch Academia, Kirby, The Amazing World of Gumball, **Persona 3-5,** Family Guy, Sonic, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Digimon Tamers, The Simpsons, Invader Zim, Pokemon Sun and Moon anime including Serena from X and Y, Crash Bandicoot and RWBY with Haruko from FLCL, Hat Kid, Popuko and Pipmi from Pop Team Epic, Bomberman, Doom Slayer, Beavis and Butthead also being there? Kirby gets pushed as a second Protagonist to go along with Diddy Kong. Imagine racing against Akko with Izuku, shooting a missile at Gumball, Gumball, Izuku, and Akko smoking pot with their friends, throwing an oil slick at Ren, Ryuji using a bat to knock opponents sideways, Ann using her whip to whip a nearby rival, Yusuke asking Momo if she’d be painted nude, Fregley putting his foot in his mouth to distract the other drivers so they can crash, Futaba showing everyone rule 34, Makoto dodging bombs that Bomberman planted on the race track, etc.
Its funny because I got both this megaman game and breath of fire dragon quarter in the same bargain bin when I was like 10 years old at walmart. They were literally right next to one another.
“I swear it’s not really Zero I’m looking at sometimes, but rather a guy in a cardboard Zero costume...” *Remembers Gilbertson’s Megaman X8 playthrough*
GOD I LOVED THIS GAME!!! :D I was so obsessed with it, I actually attempted to write a sequel fanfiction, continuing the story. I always loved this version of X's world and wanted it to be expanded on. Sadly though, it ever did. A waste..... Also, Marino is so lovely.
This game was amazing to me as a child. Megaman X combined with JRPG elements? Sign me up. At that time, I didn't notice all the repetitive chapters or the incredibly formulaic narrative details, but it's certainly clear as day now. Despite all that, one thing about this game I think still absolutely holds up is the soundtrack. Gameplay be damned, Capcom knows how to make a phenomenal Megaman soundtrack, and I think Command Mission's holds up against even the main series. Just your use of the main theme for this game in the opening minutes of this review made me go "Oh, yeaaaaaaaah! I'm excited!" Great video!
Johnny mentioning Final Fantasy Mystic Quest makes me wish he was about to maybe review some of those games. Like I know they’d take forever and a day, but maybe a final fantasy 4-6 or 7-9 marathon would be pretty fun?
Well Johnny, since this didn't do it for you, hopefully if you ever get to the Battle Network and Star Force games, they will be more your speed as far as Mega Man RPGs. Now as for the Zero games, I can't wait till you get to them, since those are my favorite Mega Man games!

Haohmaru HL screen crunch is the problem and it's a problem with most gba games

Yeah, it’s why those Hyper Modes are so fucking hard to get lol. Especially Ultimate Armor X.
5:14 - 5:23
My headcanon is basically the first minutes of the movie "Robots."
5:14 "Also... robot children. How does that work?"
**stares at Roll and Allouette/Prairie**
I still have no idea tbh
Oooh that transition into the gameplay section at 6:23 was smooth.
Aw. You didn't fight the extra bosses? They'll give you X and Zero's second (and BEST) armors! Ultimate X and Absolute Zero! They can really dish it out! I was also really looking forward to you facing the Tails clan (with a few Sonic jokes to boot).
Doesn't Absolute Zero look like Bass?
Yup. Bass with Treble adapter
15:29 "Next time I decide to do Mega Man, it'll be with the Zero series."
Welp, the Zero series is out now in collection form.
Except FF4 is actually, you know, fun. Combat is quick and snappy and doesn't take forever and i actually care for the characters.
rose tinted glasses honestly.

Thank you Johnny, for making my boring day much more exciting.
But Johnny! What about Command Mission's music!? I'm honestly curious what you thought of the various themes.
Haku1201 I heard if he doesn't mention the music for a game then he considers the music forgettable.
"Maverick Boss", "Fight! X" and "Standby, Zero" are all amazing and catchy.
@@Solibrae Second Movement is great too, and really paints Epsilon as a hero instead a f a villain.

Command Mission is actually my first Megaman game. Lol I have been looking forward to this since the beginning of the marathon. But damn I really wish he had fought the optional bosses and especially Ninetails.
@RajunCajun34 Nine Tails is still a bitch. Hurrah for stealth mode.
The only time Marino is useful
I was so hoping too, but as Johnny kept showing gameplay clips, I noticed that he didn't use Absolute Zero or Ultimate Armor.
You see, if you pay attention to the dialogue of both Epsilon AND Redips, you realize that the whole "Rebellion" thing kind of went down something like this:
Redips: I hear you just discovered some sort of mcguffin that allows Reploids to become really fucking powerful.
Also in the final strike, you can switch enemies to attack. Something he missed too.
@@Jackfernando4555 Actually no, he got that right at least. In order to take out multiple enemies in a Final Strike, you have to have reduced multiple enemies to below the FS threshold.
Ah, after a stressful couple of weeks it is always nice to unwind and watch a Johnny review. Great stuff!

Lol
You know a boss is ridiculously OP when he feels bad enough to revive your party! Lol
I had alot of fun fighting him!

Speaking of Megaman RPGs, Battle Network is great.
Lots of typos, but the battle system is great
One thing I REALLY always wanted was a Mega Man X rail shooter arcade game with plastic mega busters as the controllers.
Wish this would’ve been included in X Legacy Collection. Really enjoyed this game! Also the GameCube version had more traditional controls.
Alright Command Mission! And this wasn’t on the Legacy Collection as a bonus...why Capcom?
Either because they don't care, or because they're saving it for an X Legacy Collection 3.
There's a lot of Mega Man Classic games they left out of those collections, too.
I can't wait to see how they do the Zero series. It's only 4 games, but they'll find some way to screw it up.
mjc0961 There is the Zero collection on the DS. Although I don't know how they compare to the originals, but there's that.
Who knows why
@@num488 The DS Zero colection is as good as the orignal just a slightly difrent tr!anslation, and a much more excesible easy senario since the Zero series is brutaly hard in its orignal form this is a very welcome thing!

Finally. Now Johnny getting to the games I absolutely love is a closer possibility. The zero series, the zx series, legends and the battle network series. I know he did Network Transmission...but that's an outlier.
What about Star Force
Limited experience with the game. Didn't like what I played. Limited experience of the anime. It was so boring.
He could still do them they are really like 5 games and the Battle Network games are like 8
Yeah I'd say that's pretty accurate.
I have an extensive backlog of RUclips videos to cut through...
Suddenly, Johnny uploads.
Been waiting forever for you to talk about this game.
I'm glad you finally covered the X series Johnny. I've only played X, X2, X3, X8 and Xtreme 2 but now I'm curious enough to play X4 and even X6
Again, making a big story, but trying to keep the actual writing within it to minimum is NOT a good idea.
As soon as the fucking baller theme song kicks in I'm hyped for the episode
Man...I wonder what that says about me when you say Command Mission is boring. :/ Command Mission is legit my favorite Mega Man X game, so...I seriously don't know if I just have bad taste or not.
I love X Command Mission too. But Johnny has a very fair point that, as an RPG, it's very barebones. Especially when compared to Battle Network series.
Considering how goofy Battle Network's story and writing can be, that's a good thing.
yeah same here
I played the hell out of this one and have fond memories of it. I remember discovering Absolute Zero completely by accident. "Ready to tango with Duck Bill Mole?"
A johnny video instead of sgb, alright then.
Daniel Lado what??

At 0:33 read that as Goddamn mission...
I'm excited!"
Great video!
Johnny mentioning Final Fantasy Mystic Quest makes me wish he was about to maybe review some of those games. Like I know they’d take forever and a day, but maybe a final fantasy 4-6 or 7-9 marathon would be pretty fun?
One thing in what this game certainly succeed, was to making me want Cinnamon and Marino in a proper Megaman X game!
2:01 that visual joke cracks me up XD
Well Johnny, since this didn't do it for you, hopefully if you ever get to the Battle Network and Star Force games, they will be more your speed as far as Mega Man RPGs. Now as for the Zero games, I can't wait till you get to them, since those are my favorite Mega Man games!
