IMPORTANT: If you plan to use this controller for Melee - A LOT of people have been having problems with this controller. These include (but are not limited to), stick drift, bad button pads, X/Y offsets. Note my controller in this video does not suffer from these problems besides everything being super stiff. HOWEVER if you go out and buy this controller you may not be as lucky. It seems general quality control is super sketchy with this batch of controllers and that is super sad to hear. Many people are looking into this now but if you are picky about controller performance and feel proceed with caution with these.
I have X/Y offsets. In games like Smash 4 it's not problem, as it doesn't really detect it. However, it becomes a problem when I want to use it on my computer. The problem becomes very noticeable when I play games like Project M and Smash Flash. In this case, I stick to my original GameCube controller for the computer. I'm hoping Nintendo will address this issue and fix it, so that I can return my controller without worrying about getting another controller in a similar condition.
This has actually been confirmed to be untrue. It's a problem with Dolphin and the outdated drivers for the GameCube adapter and controller. Someone did testing over on Reddit across different operating systems and dolphin versions. Trying CEMU with it shows it has no issues. Same on native hardware.
Aramaru 1837 Actually power A is making a wireless GameCube controller for switch. I’ve seen only 2 reviews on it since power A sent review copy’s but it’s coming out on November 23rd so check it out. It’s around $50 btw.
Aramaru 1837 It also includes the left Z button and motion controls for splatoon and the home, screenshot, and Plus and minus buttons. I don’t know if the buttons can be clicked in so you’ll have to check on that.
@Taktisch Its 10s of thousands of people. Also, Speed runners and casuals who just like GCCs all fall into the market too also less so. So its not a HUGE market, but its big enough to make some decent money on by continuously producing controllers. Hell, they could even bump the price up to 40-50$ and people would still be glad to buy them.
I like the Smash Ultimate controller more than the Smash 4 controller. The S4 controller felt more stiff and the LR buttons felt much worse. The Ultimate controller also had better weight balance to me

I'm buying this for an actual gamecube! Things like this are a godsend for classic game collectors. It'll stay in the box unless my wavebird dies, but it's nice to know I've got a fresh, new controller waiting in the wings.

Just ordered the controller and adapter today. Can't wait for them to get here. I've been using old reliable since 2006 but I think it's finally time I retire him. Thank God Nintendo actually sent out enough adapters this time and I was actually able to get one. Edit: My stuff came a day early. I was concerned after hearing people were having problems with the controllers but both controller and adapter work perfectly. I'm pretty happy.

The mayflash one is pretty easy to find and is probably the best adapter, if not the best third party adapter, since it can have firmware updates to support controllers like the smashbox.
I’m just glad I still have my original purplish-blue and silver GC controllers from back in the day. Along with my Smash 4 Black one. I’m not trying to spend $100+ on a controller. But it’s crazy how you can just look at a controller you’ve had for a long time, and just remember all the good and bad game memories with it.

Probably not amazing tbh. If you're talking abt what I think u are it's hardly cheaper than the normal pro controller, doesn't have rumble or NFC and the only thing it really has is mappable buttons but maybe it is good idk

It's freaking awesome that they re-issued the NGC controller; I have to emulate since my TV is out of commission and I don't have a way to hook my RVL-001 Wii up to my PC, and even when my TV was still working, I was stuck with (what I now know were) crappy chinesium NGC controllers, 'cause I was not about to pay what people wanted for even used OEM controllers. As of the 10th, I'll have two of the SSBM Ultimate controllers, and hopefully in December, I can make it four.
The gamecube controller is my favorite controller of all times, I can use on my Wii for gamecube games, Wii compatible games and some homebrew apps, Wii U + adapter for playing smash Wii U and emulators of my pc, I have my old gamecube controller and the smash4 edition, this controllers are very useful and cheap (if you live in usa) in Mexico the peso has devaluated, the Smash4 controller only cost $600 but the new ultimate controller costs $1000 pesos :(
Did your controller have any noticeable snap back on it cause I opened 2 brand new ones used them for about an hour or less and they both had some pretty bad snap back on them
@@soridosuneku It's when if you move the control stick to the edge of the cage and let go of it so that it resets to the neutral position, it moves a far enough in that direction to register an input. So if holding the stick to the far left and releasing it back to neutral registers a right input.
The triggers feel sooo much better than the Smash 4 and original Gamecube controller triggers. It's perfect out of the box, and the shield drops on mine are as free as can be.
I work in a local video game store and we got stock of these controllers and the only people to buy them so far are myself and my coworkers lol. We have still have a good handful in stock and honestly they'll probably last until Smash Ultimate comes out

It is the the same " gamecube" controller just with a different logo. Instead of GameCube logo you have smash logo. Besides that. Is the same controller. ;)
These gen 2 GameCube controllers have slight differences from the gen 1 controllers, from what I know the gen 2 has slightly taller buttons and has no braces on the triggers something the gen 1 controller’s have (but you can still install triggers if you have any). And I don’t know if it’s because there new but the sticks are much tighter than the gen 1 sticks. I’ve also heard that gen 2 controllers were made with competitive smash play in mind.

Smash 4 controllers/Sm5sh controllers have subtle differences to original gamecube controllers. They have taller buttons and lack trigger braces for two I know off the top of my head.
@@asadmirza9346 near the end of the video he talks about it a tad. They're little metal braces that go on the triggers that make going up and down super clean and reliable, keep them straight. Nintendo hasn't included these in reprints for some reason.
I really like my Smash 4 controller. I use it as my main controller actually. I probably put about a thousand hours of use into it and it's still going strong. If this is basically the same thing I can tell you it's good purchase.
I really hope that Nintendo makes them in more colors than black (and they need to release the white ones overseas already, damn it). We need to get that iconic purple back, and some switch-themed colors would be nice too.
Why do you need to buy new ones? And why would it cost hundreds of dollars? I brought a used Gamecube controller for like 15 quid the other day, near perfect condition, the only flaw being a bit of dirt on the C-stick that I can clean off, but it arrived in like 2 days, and it works great! I love these controllers though man. So good! Best triggers I’ve ever used, the buttons feel great, the sticks are excellent, although I’d make the c-stick a little bigger, and I’d make the z-button a bit less squishy. Shame the d-pad is so tiny that my little finger covers the whole thing.
Just Another RUclips Channel its hundreds of dollars for a brand new controller. Otherwise you need to gamble with a used one. If you're picky with controllers like shield drops and dash backs, or even with basic things like the feeling of the control stick then this can be an issue. I'm really surprised you got your controller for like 15 bucks. Does it say nintendo gamecube at the top? Used ones ive seen go for like $25+ usd.
At GameStop they’ve also been selling for some time now “GameCube wired controller for the Wii”. They’re only like $17 , they work with the Switch,and buttons click and feel more similar to an original GameCube controller
Honest question: why do smash enthusiasts get entirely new controllers, when they could send in their controllers for stick box replacements ,ect... to places like Battle Beaver for repair?? Seems like it'd be much cheaper than buying a new controller.
Hey zenith, great video. One suggestion I'd make is switching up the camera if you want to do any kind of movement or car sequence again. The frames are skipping a lot.
Gamestop's policy is "They have a warranty. Replace the controller if they brought the pieces." I'm very familiar with the policy for...reasons. Always buy the PRP.

Orded a knock-off brand from Amazon. Took a bit to get here but no longer than a week. It's for the Wii-U but works perfectly for the switch as well.
Honestly, the adaptor has some decent knock-offs. The controller is the main thing to worry about.

Referencing the Gamecube controller released in the Smash 4 era
Smash 4 controllers/Sm5sh controllers have subtle differences to original gamecube controllers. They have taller buttons and lack trigger braces for two I know off the top of my head.

@@asadmirza9346 near the end of the video he talks about it a tad. They're little metal braces that go on the triggers that make going up and down super clean and reliable, keep them straight.
Nintendo hasn't included these in reprints for some reason.

I really like my Smash 4 controller. I use it as my main controller actually. I probably put about a thousand hours of use into it and it's still going strong. If this is basically the same thing I can tell you it's good purchase.

I really hope that Nintendo makes them in more colors than black (and they need to release the white ones overseas already, damn it). We need to get that iconic purple back, and some switch-themed colors would be nice too.

Why do you need to buy new ones? And why would it cost hundreds of dollars? I brought a used Gamecube controller for like 15 quid the other day, near perfect condition, the only flaw being a bit of dirt on the C-stick that I can clean off, but it arrived in like 2 days, and it works great!
I love these controllers though man. So good! Best triggers I’ve ever used, the buttons feel great, the sticks are excellent, although I’d make the c-stick a little bigger, and I’d make the z-button a bit less squishy. Shame the d-pad is so tiny that my little finger covers the whole thing.
Just Another RUclips Channel its hundreds of dollars for a brand new controller. Otherwise you need to gamble with a used one. If you're picky with controllers like shield drops and dash backs, or even with basic things like the feeling of the control stick then this can be an issue.
I'm really surprised you got your controller for like 15 bucks. Does it say nintendo gamecube at the top? Used ones ive seen go for like $25+ usd.
I just want more GameCube controllers for multiplayer games like Super Smash bros melee or Mario Kart Double Dash
At GameStop they’ve also been selling for some time now “GameCube wired controller for the Wii”. They’re only like $17 , they work with the Switch,and buttons click and feel more similar to an original GameCube controller

Honest question: why do smash enthusiasts get entirely new controllers, when they could send in their controllers for stick box replacements ,ect... to places like Battle Beaver for repair?? Seems like it'd be much cheaper than buying a new controller.

fun fact in the UK we get 12months warranty/guarantee on new purchases!!! i think in the USA you get 90 days is this true??

The few I opened were actually more consistent than the sm4sh ones, could just be coincidence though.

Hey zenith, great video. One suggestion I'd make is switching up the camera if you want to do any kind of movement or car sequence again. The frames are skipping a lot.
Yea, I didnt bring my DSLR out and my phone is an iphone 6 lmaoo Ill at least put it at 60fps next time or just bring the big camera out!

Gamestop's policy is "They have a warranty. Replace the controller if they brought the pieces."
I'm very familiar with the policy for...reasons. Always buy the PRP.

Got one in a gamestop store for 30 bucks. Cant'believe they didn't manage to sell it on ebay for over 50 as they always do. Good deal tho, i really needed a controller to play with my old gamecube.

Sucks that they decided to not reproduce the metal braces again. I had to pull mine off broken gamecube controllers I found at thrift stores for the Smash 4 controllers, looks like I'll have to do the same this time around.
