Can we talk about how well Cecily does the emotional heavy lifting in this episode? Everybody knows she's a great comedy actress but she got to show some dramatic chops in this and I hope she gets more opportunities to play the leading lady.
I thought of it like that, too! Since this season focused on 'classic' style musicals like The Music Man then next season could be stylized like musicals of the 70s and 80s. Especially since the last song of the season felt much more modern than everything else.
I feel like this song completely reconciles one relationship towards golden age musical loving something while recognizing problematic aspects (albeit people or musicals) and bridges towards more the new and contemporary. Beautiful way to end the season
I love how most of the numbers in this show were just like fun parodies, but for the finale, they brought in a real serious song to emphasise the lesson being learnt. Everyone should watch Schmigadoon! Also, can we talk about Ariana DeBose riffing through the end like a pro?!
For me they’re not really parodies their tributes. I absolutely understand how their seen as parodies, Yet I can see the songs being showcased at the Tony awards in their own right. That’s how well they’re written. And this song, when they started using the Sunday in the Park with George Backdrop, literal chills down my spine.
This song starts off as a take on “Sunday” from Sunday in the Park with George (Sondheim), and then ties right into a “Day By Day” from Godspell (Schwartz) vibe. The Stephens helped change Musical Theatre’s sounds, so it makes perfect sense for a finale
@@librarymark Rent would be mid-1990s and WAY more rock sounding. They're not there just yet, having just broke from the 40s/50s/early-60s musical era into the late-60s/70s/early-80s era. (Sunday in the Park with George is from 1984). If there is a Season 3, I'd say THAT is when they'd hit the Rent era.

Kristen Chenoweth and Dove Cameron singing and dancing together I bet was just them wanting to hang out during filming seeing as they spent the entire season apart from each other lol
I've made a number of comments about "Schmiggadoon" using the word brilliant. It just is. BRILLIANT! It shines on every level. Thank you to all the people that created this.
Whenever I listen to this I get so close to actually joining an amateur musical theatre group. I’ve always loved singing and especially musical theatre songs and this just seems like a total joy.
There is actually quite a bit of intricacy in the lyrics. You can tell this by listening to the dubbed tracks and looking at the difficulties the translators had. (Bravo to Apple for dubbing the songs too. Thus usually is only done by Disney for child-friendly movies.) The German version of the song emphasizes the inevitability of change and the Latin American Spanish version talks about change finally arriving. The original English lyrics have a lot of interesting word constructions and emphasizes the personal aspects of change.
Great way to end the series but I really hope Emma and Jorge find someone else. Especially Emma. Felt especially bad for her. Also I'm curious as to why they didn't show Josh and Melissa successfully leaving. Is it implied they did or is it a cliffhanger we don't know is happening?
jorge's mom tells melissa that for love to work you need to wake up every morning and choose to believe in it. i feel like the creators didn't show the two of them successfully leaving to to kinda hint at this. like the audience needs to choose to believe that their love is true, just like as they need to in order to cross the bridge. it's kinda a metaphor for love, they don't know what's gonna happen on the other side of the bridge, but they choose to cross it together nonetheless.
It's fitting that the musical this number is riffing on (Sunday in the Park with George) is by far the newest and most experimental of any of their source material.

Good Pippin type take-off song, but the word "intersection" wouldn't become a psycho-babble soft social science term for several more decades. Perhaps it was an attempt for viewers to see how those song writers might have done such a story today.

It would be cool if it pulled an Infinity Train and has different protagonists each season with a different theme of musical and different lessons.
