I feel like her talent and elegance, not to mention her voice made the number memorable. Especially on her second to last "suddenly" where she went from a sweet whisper to a triumphant declaration.
Schmigadoon started out as a pastiche, a satire of musicals - but suddenly it is taking its genre seriously. This number is classic R&H style, and in good taste.
@@jamesrawlins735 And they always had a waltz, a woman's proclamation of the character (I enjoy being a girl/I'm Just a Female Female), a guy's statement of life objectives, a setting number (Oklahoma), a production number (song that can't be put into the storyline, vaudeville throwback), and pseudo religious number (Never Walk Alone), and a love duet. Folks like Sondheim broke that formula, Webber and Menken (varied music genre in each score).
King and I, Cinderella and some South Pacific too... and if R&H could hear this song today, they'd say "damn, i wish we would have written this!". It's really, really good.
This is my favourite song from the series to date. More than any other, it simply is a golden age musical theatre song. It’s like Rodgers and Hammerstein just crawled out their graves and churned out another Ten Minutes Ago or Something Good. It’s just so beautiful and sincere.
@@newglappy2389 It is brilliant. I dont even know who told me about it but I had to watch it with ,my friend here just to see if I was dreaming. I still cant hardly believe how good it is. I felt so bad for Florence. I’m glad he finally came out, but I hope he’s able to patch things up with her. She seems like a really sweet lady and I hope she finds the love she desires.
As long as her husband held his secret, she was stuck. Now that he's come out, she too will be freed to find a relationship that includes physical love :) And her friendship with her husband can outlast their marriage
I literally spit out my coffee when they crossed over from one set to the other. I didn't see that coming, and now my couch is ruined. Well done, set designers! (I'm sending you the dry cleaning bill.)
This show is really hitting its stride! Much as I loved "Corn Puddin'" and other highlights from the first couple of episodes, just like many musicals the feelings are deepening and feeling realer and the stakes are getting way higher. Bravo brava amazing!
I loved that Jaime did the dubbing for the Spanish Latin America version and I don’t know how they do it, that version is just as beautiful without losing the context of the original 🥰🥰
My one desire is I wish he’d found the courage before he married Florence. I really didn’t wanna see her get hurt. (Oh and that she found out first in private before he told the entire town - I think it would have been easier for the both of them) 😭 - loved The romance duets to bits!
Way late to the party, but just watched the two seasons. Fantastic show. I haven't enjoyed something this much since Cobra Kai. I hope season 3 gets green lit and we get to continue this awesome journey.
This song is reminiscent of many of the "I'm just realizing I'm in love" songs from Broadway shows. "Lucky To Be Me" from "On The Town", "A Little Bit In Love" and "It's Love" from "Wonderful Town", "If I Were A Bell" from "Guys And Dolls", "Ten Minutes Ago" from "Cinderella", "This Is All Very New To Me" from "Plain And Fancy", etc.
"Suddenly " seems to me a combination of "People will say we're in love" from Oklahoma, and the song "Unforgettable" as dueted by Nat King Cole an his daughter Natalie Cole.
It's all physically one scene but they cut it off into two to make it look like that they are at two separate locations. At two Separate different locations throughout the town but they are at the same location at the same time.
One thing I don't understand: If Schmigadoon is a musical come reality and everything from the accompanying instrumental music to the choreographed dances are observabel by the guests, how did they perceive that cross to the other set? Did they teleport? Did they see each other as tath shot of them looking at each other sugests? In a normal musical this would be only a stylistic choice and obviously methaphorical. But here everything else (but the painted backgrounds) seems to be literally real.
The songs used as devices advance the story and reveal feelings they can't bear to say in words. Like arias in operettas, their predecessors, but unlike vaudeville before Show Boat.
You're being too literal. : ) Musicals always involve a suspension of disbelief. In "West Side Story" they are dancing on one street and then magically they are on another street. Etc.
When I first watched this episode, I immediately thought about heathers because both songs have adult men singing about how they are homosexuals at a funeral.
Hearing this in the morning is so OMG and I really don't know what's more for the mayor to sing that at a funeral or how he says Homosexual i'm that accent , And also hearing the beautiful voice of Jaime Camil is so beautiful ✨ (So sorry for My Bad English i'm hispanic)
I mean, isn’t that the point? She’s still torn between Josh and Doc Lopez and that creates an interesting contrast between the heartfelt song and “reality”.
Another multiculti mashup. Just can’t watch anything new these days. Takes me right out of the story. I’ll stick with State Fair from 1945 which was divine. 💫
I love when Ariana puts her hands to her face at “want to call a preacher”. A tiny gesture that’s very Maria in The Sound of Music
Love that the mayor speaks with an American accent but sings with a Scottish one.
In tru Alan Cummings fashion
He is genuinely Scottish!
@@Aandi_pants He was in The good wife
ohhh I thought it was French and he was channeling Maurice Chevalier. Maurice would do that same cheery smile when he would sing in musicals.
Ariana sings her declaration of love beautifully and with sincerity. She is a true find! And the duet is lovely.
I feel like her talent and elegance, not to mention her voice made the number memorable. Especially on her second to last "suddenly" where she went from a sweet whisper to a triumphant declaration.

Exactly.
I'm also getting Pleasantville vibes - how people in the "perfect" town started changing - but instead of going from B&W, your changing music styles

Also, I swear at 2:41 they’re doing the Laendler from The Sound Of Music. My god this show is brilliant.
You can definitely here the Something Good influence in the background accompaniment in the beginning and the pavilion set. It’s beautiful.
"Ten Minutes Ago" is a favorite of mine.

It was beautifully done, but it also reminded me of Mrs Brown's Boys which made me giggle.
It’s green screen
All the musical movies had the split screen, but not the breaking of the fifth wall
@@juanitacanon3120 that was so disappointing to learn.
I've always loved the romantic ballads in musicals, this song reminds me so much of those. And it's my favorite from the show so far.

Emma is lit so beautifully in this scene, just like a golden era Hollywood musical film its perfect
The lighting in this season is so classic and gorgeous.
This is my favorite song from this season. It is so romantic and heartwarming.
Just when I thought Doc Lopez couldn’t get any more charming, he whips out that honey-like voice!
Jaime Camil, why do you torture me so?!

He is scarey good.
When I first saw the doctor I literally said out loud, "Rogelio!"
Finally his dream of being cast in an american show came true!!! 😂
Please, I am rotten to the core. Please delete Schmigadoon. I’m not interested in she can do I am interested in live in Maddie 0:03
ariana's voice is so sublime here (and always)
I've watched this clip far too many times already. love everything about suddenly 🥰
I think this number is supposed to remind people of Sound of Music, but it made me think of "South Pacific". Beautiful!
Jesus can i just have them both? 😆 so attractive and beautiful voices! Haha
keegan and ariana went from principal and student to love interests lmao
This is hands - down the best R&H song they never wrote. @cincopaul is a genius.
He is a genius. Although he stands on the shoulders of giants
I love when they dance through the split screen!
I am obsessed with this song! I find myself singing it a lot lately!
I love how Pastor Layton is just standing there while Mayor Menlove comes out during the funeral like: 🧍♂️
"What and where and why and when and how..." such a good lyric.
god i love the “Homosexual” song. I dunno if it’s the lyrics, the way he says homoseggsual, or the fact that he’s singing it at a funeral

Well, that's a.......way to start the video.
It felt kind of weird when araina and keegan came on, because in prom the musical they played principal and student
Seen so many pans by reviewers who largely rate highly only crap from the marvel universe or formulaic heist and car chase sequels.
