4 years later and I'm glad I've found your quick start tutorials. I wanted a great compact camera for vacation instead of lugging a full frame DSLR plus lenses. The Sony RX100 VII met almost 90% of my needs for vacation photo and videos. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciate it. Cheers!
4 years later me too... I bought the MVII recently and this video is one of the best about this camera in the channel and highly professional! No unnecessary talk and straight to the point, but very comprehensible at the same time. Great thanks Tony, you have given me lots of inspiration!
Best of the instructors, I think! Pre NIKON D500, D610, D750... Now SONY a6300, a9 and RX100VII. Thanks so much Tony! Splendid and clear pro quality tutorials!
I don't usually write comments but on this one i was compelled to. I must say that what a good fortune it is that a page like yours exists on youtube. I bought this camera recently and was desperate to learn all the things so that i could fully utilize all the benefits of this beautiful machine. Now instead of mountainous and time consuming task of reading everything in the manual all i had to do was watch this one hour video. Best way to learn and i also like how you setup a huge tv in the back for headings. By the way i love the way you deliver your speech, clear and precise.
Great tutorial Tony. I’ve had the RX100 VII for two years and have found your instruction so helpful in getting more out of this amazing little camera. Thank you 😊
Another way to turn on the camera, just to review photos, is to press the Play button on the back. That way you can look at your pictures without activating the lens every time.
THANK YOU! This was a terrific tutorial! I have gone from an a7RII to an a6500 and now to the RX100VII just because I wanted something powerful and pocketable. Very impressive tech in such a small package.
Thank you for a very useful tutorial..I bought a used Sony RX100 online and tried to learn How to transfer videos from my camera to my iPhone 6 so I watched other tutorial videos and bought the lightning to USB camera adapter but didn’t work ... so I came to your video and you mentioned about formatting the memory card .. I did that and omg tried video transfer and was successful ...love the way you teach it’s clear and perfect👍 thanks again and stay safe❤️
Thank you for not complaining about the design/functionality "flaws" (there is NO perfect camera) of this. Your tutorial is very useful, even for my RX100 VI, thank you!
Wow. Impressive. I just bought a Mark 7 . Did some shots at the park today . I am blown away at the wide range of features in this camera . I'm going to save this and go through it all again. Thanks.
What a great tutorial, having owned a mk1 several years ago and now just bought a new one I was having trouble remembering how to navigate this great camera. Thanks so much for this video, great information and a joy to listen to.
Just received my RX100VII this morning. My 1st Sony so some of those menus items were foreign to me coming from Canon. Amazing tutorial, thanks so much!
I just received my Sony RX100 VII and your tutorial came in handy. I just came back from a trip in the Antelope Arizona and instead of taking photos with a DSLR, I ended up just using my iPhone because the tour was going so fast, so a powerful pocket camera would have been really handy. Therefore, I decided to buy the Sony RX100 VII (instead of a mirrorless camera) which is great when traveling plus there is a great tutorial video(yours) to help me figure out on how to use and navigate the menu :) :) :).. Actually I watched this tutorial before I decided to buy the camera... and I am watching it again. Thanks
AF-C and 'tracking expand flexible spot" seems to work really well. Once I focus, I can recompose, and it keeps that point more or less over my intended focal point. Pretty neat.
Tony, watched 22 mins so far. One thing you might want to mention is the flash is able to tilt up thus giving you a bounce. Thanks for all your great videos. God bless to both of you.
Thanks Tony. You have a great natural approach (with no bulls..t) of describing complex options so that viewers can understand what each does and why? I found the customisation of the Fn menu's was really beneficial, but the whole video was superb!
Thank you! Thank you! I'm an enthusiast full-frame Canon user, but rushed out yesterday to get the RX100 VII (it's got 99% of what I want in a compact grab & go travel camera). However, I found that learning the new system was a bit intimidating -- and the lack of tutorials disappointing. I woke up this morning to find your wonderful overview. Relief was instantaneous! Thank you! Thank you! (Now I can pocket carry a high-quality camera into all those U.T. Longhorn sporting events that won't allow you to bring in your big "professional" camera. Yeah!)
Hopefully they make this in a f1.8 with built in ND. If you don’t need the mic jack, longer 4K recording times, and crazy zoom, the V is the way to go IMO.
Thank you for this review! I received my RX 100 vii a couple of days ago and your review has been the very best instructional tutorial posted. Very hands-on for novices like myself. Round 2 of this one soon.
Here’s a tip, if you have another camera, lets say a A6500 and the the RX100 VII, change the name of files it stores to RX1, then you know that the photos you took came from the RX. You can also change the A6500 to A65, 3 digits is max for both cameras.
I am looking to buy the RX100m7 very soon, and YT recommended your video. I love photography, but I generally keep things on auto on my Sony HX60. I'm familiar with what some functions do, but wouldn't know how to use them properly, so I'm so pleased that you went through each feature slowly, explaining them as simply as possible. I have clicked subscribe, and will definitely come back to this video to refresh my memory.
Thank you for sharing this! I bought your stunning photography book when I got D7200 and your tips are very useful. So glad to see this toturial for my RX100m3.
The rx100 v was the very first mirrorless camera that I bought and besides from teaching me how to take photos, I have taken stunning photos that most people would think came out of a DSLR. IMO, the old f1.8-f2.8 is much better suited for the 1" sensor than the new zoom lens.
The most important thing to learn for me with this Sony was to master DRO (dynamic range optimization). Sony has a small sensor so its dynamic range is rather limited so pictures often end up with overblown highlights and shadows. But DRO can wastly improve it by brightening the shadows. Of course this is useful only for JPEG shooters... But I find this feature crucial especially when shooting in very contrasty scenes, typically during sunny days.
Great teaching style. I just bought a IV(on a budget), with little knowledge or experience. and this is really helping. I'll check out your other stuff after I finish this one. subscribed!
I've had this camera for 5 yrs. I hate it. The pictures are nice, but I hate all of the buttons and functions. Needless to say, I am a point-and-shoot kind of person. I use it once a year probably. I learn a few things to allow me to take photos on a trip and then put it away. Next year, I have to learn all over. I hate it, hate it, hate it. Just deleting photos feels like the worst pain I can imagine. There I said it! Thank you for the quick review, I hated it, but it was helpful. LOL
Great video Tony. I aspire to buy the Sony RX100 VII but I worry that I will not be pleased with the 1" sensor. I have never used any sensor less that the cropped sensor APS-C. I do use Photoshop to fix photos.
Thanks for a straightforward trip through the basics. I usually RTFM, but when I got the RX100M7, figured I'd put the battery in and have it charging while I went through the manual. Except putting in the battery led to setting up location / wifi / and the next thing I knew I was on a screen that looked like a jet fighter dashboard, and couldn't figure out how to get out of that screen. And the manual wasn't helping me since I was already in the woods without having dropped enough breadcrumbs. Your video brought me back to understanding basic navigation - something the manual seems to have overlooked in their voluminous pages detailing each function.
About focusing modes - you needed to mention not only that VI and VII is fast AF-C, but VA too, because it has hardware from VI, just with brighter lens :)
forgot to mention you can turn it on (for viewing images) by pressing the play button, the lens does not come out. if you then press the menu button you go into the menu. also if after pressing the play button to turn it on to preview past images you then want to take photos you just half press the shutter button and the lens comes out.
Thanks, man! Mine is on the way. Looking forward to trying it. I had just bought the M6, but this was announced, so I returned it for the newest toy =)
Just started using a VII myself and was trying to figure out how to open the charging/multi port so came to this video. For some reason my one is super difficult to open compared to the other two above/below
Thanks for going through every setting it's very helpful. The RX100 VII is the first RX camera I will own i'm just waiting for delivery which is expected on Wednesday. I previously had an A7iii so I have got some knowledge of the menu layout. I'll refer back to this video thanks again. 📷👍
Lots of cool info. Sure which Sony would update the firmware on the M3 version of the camera (which is still shipping and still a great camera) to have the time lapse interval shooting function.
Great video but found one incorrect statement viz that touching the screen to establish a focus point does not work in Auto Mode. It does, in fact, as long as one of the Touch Panel options under the Touch Operation option on screen 3 is turned on.

I just want to say a huge thanks for making this video. I just bought myself one of these bad boyz. I'm a Pentax shooter (yeah baby) so when I saw the Sony menu I almost went into cardiac arrest
hi i have a question. is there a PAUSE button somewhere in the sony rx100 M7 camera during movie recording. I can't find it and tech support doesn't know either.
I have this camera and love it. There is however one big frustration for me. When you want to take a selfie, The shutter speed, ISO and f-stop are all covered up on the bottom of the screen when you flip it up because it doesn't go high enough. Why couldn't they make the screen so when you flipped it up, you could see the bottom info bar? It's basically impossible to see your settings. What a rookie mistake they made with this
Tony, Chelsea - nice video. I have a question. Is it possible to use the rx100 flash to fire an external flash? If I buy a Godox V1 flash, can I use the fill flash of the camera to fire up the external flash! If not is there any other model of flash that will work with this camera as an external? Thank you

worst part of owning the mark-7 is knowing a mark-8 will soon be out.... with 👉🏽lots o new features 😩😂🤣
Excellent , informative , well done video ! Thank You. I’m ordering your books & subscribing today
When you want to take a selfie, The shutter speed, ISO and f-stop
are all covered up on the bottom of the screen when you flip it up because it doesn't go high enough.
Thank you
Hi Tony. What is the title of the book you mentioned in this video?
Great timing! Mine is still shipping!
I love this camera.
hey! good vid. Any news about the m8? They're like 2 years over due announcing something official??!!
