    This is one of those mods that's so cool you want to do it even if you don't have the need for it.

      I have to agree Forest! Knowing I don't have to drop the tank again to get access to my lift pump is fantastic, and connecting the wiring harness and fuel lines was a much easier process as well!

    The fact that jeep engineers somehow didn't thought of a door for that fuel pump access is unbelievable.

    I was looking into the same item for my TJ, what I did and ANY jeep owner needs to do is buy a Rivnut set, super cheap and can just bolt a simple plate over the hole. Nice vid.

      Thank you so much Ted! I didn't realize just how much clearance the skid plate was going to give me at the rear of my TJ, I'm really looking forward to seeing how it does on the trails!

    Great update didn’t know you could do that with the tj

      Thank you so much Chad! I happened across the Access Panel while browsing GenRight's site a while back and I thought it was a great idea. I've seen other vehicles that have access panels and thought it would be a great feature to have on my TJ as well.

    Good video. Appreciate you not editing out the mistakes so we can all learn.
    Once the panel is closed is there anything to keep water coming in?

      I hadn't thought of that. There is enough of a gap there that you could easily make a cork or rubber gasket to seal it up.

    is this fuel tank sending unit lever only problem you have had using the CDI Liberty pump? I have a TJ with an MB 617. having to redo the builders fuel pick up bung... it leaks air.. so thinking on doing what you didthough I would NOT neeed the pump... (except for occasional prime and pumping the tank free of water/algae etc. (since their is no tank drain) )
    Or do you see a way to do use TJ pump for above thoughts... (does it allow for suck thru when TJ pump is off?) .... or gut the pump and just use it as nothing more than a fuel pickup??

    Did the epoxy come with the plate or did you just decide to use it? What 3M product? Genright makes killer stuff, I have their XT aluminum tank, 24.5 gallons, fender flares, hood vent, and doing corner guards today.

    I can see you lined up the frame with the four ribs in the center of the tub floor. But how did you figure the placement from front to back?

    Came across this because I bought a brand new fuel pump and it didn't work LOL This would be a good idea but I would have dropped the tank before I started cutting but thats what RUclips is don't do what other people do haha

    Do the instructions provide a template to show where to cut?

    Nice work but why is the opening so large ?

    • @RustyAutoholicGuy
      @RustyAutoholicGuy  Год назад

      Not sure honestly, probably so you have plenty of room to get the pump out.

    does this design leave it easy to slide stuff in and out of the tub? that would not work for me at all if it did catch on things as you slide them.

      Congrats on your new Jeep. Yes a 1997 is a TJ Wrangler and this Fuel Pump Access Panel will work, though your tank will look slightly different from mine, I believe Jeep went to a new fuel pump in 2005.

    Seems like it would have been better to have the access placed a few more inches toward the front of the jeep.

      You can’t,the frame ends up right next to the seat belt crossmember,don’t want to cut that out,I have one and these things are great!

    Why didn't you just use a factory fuel pump and save yourself all that fussing ?

    • @RustyAutoholicGuy
      @RustyAutoholicGuy  2 месяца назад +1

      Because I only needed 7psi of pressure delivered to the diesel engine and the gas engine pump in my 06 TJ was designed for closer to 60psi. There were multiple ways of solving this issue and I decided to replace the pump with a lift pump out of a Diesel Jeep Liberty since it had the same mounting design on the fuel tank.
