      @@SohnCompositions Oh yes, it helped me big time. I was going to go ahead and buy some pro, pre recorded runs for both strings and woods but you showed me how to build my own. This led to me digging deeper into my libraries for run-ready samples and discovering a wealth of capability and effects I didn’t know I owned. You saved me money, led me to better understand my workstation and improved my musicianship. Bravo, and thank you!

      Hey Nathan, glad to have helped! There's also a way to set up a custom grid in Cubase in case you'd like make it more streamlined. You should be able to make a grid that fits 7 notes to a bar or other odd numbers.

    My grain of salt….do runs of 5, 7 and 9 notes. That gives an irregularity resembling live playing , works for my A LOT

    How about adding another violin and pitchbending it randomly - but way sharp. Always adds realism for me. Perhaps I'm just hiring the wrong orchestra!

    Ok, got it.....First you need detailed articulated sample library(like specifically sampled for runs) :)

    Do basses actually do runs, is that a thing? I know this sort of instrument (bass, tuba etc.) has a tendency to get underestimated, but still it seems a bit counter-intuitive

    • @SohnCompositions
      @SohnCompositions  4 года назад +3

      Yeah it depends on the tempo and context I guess. I've heard fast runs exchanging voices from high to low (from violins to viola to cello to bass) in concerts which is a cool effect. So it is possible but much more difficult to pull off. I'm sure bass and tubas players wouldn't like that so much.

    Hey just asking, what are some of the programs you use to get started in orchestral programming?

    • @SohnCompositions
      @SohnCompositions  3 года назад +1

      Hello, there are about a handful of big players that have solid orchestral libraries. The ones that come to mind are Cinesamples, Spitfire Audio, East West (soundsonline.com), Orchestral Tools, 8dio, Cinematic Studio Strings/Brass/Woodwinds and Symphobia. All of them are great and worth checking out. I'd say take a look at each of them with their demos to hear them for yourself.

      Hmm that's strange. Sometimes it won't work or acts buggy if you too fast or if it's not quantized/evenly performed. I'm sorry that it's not working
