Ok the food and water thing it’s more like don’t eat a whole meal in a public transport cuz if u spill it’s a mess and the drivers don’t have time to clean it. They usually won’t fine you. The drinking well I think bars and clubs are allowed to sell up till maybe 3am but u need a permit. Anywhere else can’t sell after 12am. Supermarkets can only sell up will 1030pm cuz you shouldn’t be loitering and drinking in public public like by the street or else where. You can own gum just u can’t buy gum means u can usually bring it back from overseas just don’t litter. Littering isn’t super enforced but I mean common courtesy don’t litter same with the toilet.
other than water might be a necessity for someone who may be dehydrated, sounds like i wish We could adopt a lot of those rules here in the USA.. yea ye.."Merica".. tired of people trashing the side of the road, leaving dirty diapers in parking lots, spilling food ( nachos ) all over bus seats, train seats, etc.. yea.. a few GOOD rules to keep the country clean, LOWER costs and care for things.. yea.. thats always a "bad thing"..
For the 4th rule its not really enforced so that you can't drink anything cuz our government is not that harsh, the only thing that you can't do it eating food with strong smells like durain but other than that you chill unless people get annoyed :)
Haha! Singaporean here! There are many students on learning journeys everywhere so they banned "flavoured air" and smoking Plus. The alcohol is to help those students or children who walk at night! They help us a lot and I'm a student too so I am safe everywhere!!!❤
yaaaa but recently some primary schools got students who were caught vaping i remember when an entire level in my school was held back after a vape talk cause quite a few of them were caught vaping
Let's be honest As a local, I've seen each one of these rules being broken everyday and few, if any of the locals really care. Second rule is probably the least enforced imo, if you head out anywhere past the city centre/tourist areas, litter isn't hard to find Fourth rule is abit more lax when you're in the bus. Beverage consumption is generally acceptable in buses, you might even spot someone taking a surreptitious bite of some snack (quite rare tho). It's only in the train where consuming anything is actually prohibited, though I've seen someone sipping on some water during peak hour rush (not recommended though, it ain't worth playing roulette when there like 1 CCTV cam per 2-4 carriage doors in the train) Sixth/seventh rule is often flouted but not openly. If you head over to the heartlands, you'll find youth consuming such (unfortunately in schools too, where it's mostly done in toilets) So yea...it's not that all these rules are effective, they're really just out of immediate sight
Whilst all are true to a certain degree but the alcohol rule is more towards you cant purchase alcohol after 10.30pm in public but im sure clubs are allowed as they drink in the club itself
Hiii! I lived in Singapore for 2 years, here’s my experience with gum. 🤠 I think you can bring gum in just u can’t sell it or buy it. I don’t think you can eat it in public spaces either but private spaces are fine. 😂 In my school it’s quite common to see people chewing gum.😅 But overall I think ytubers and influencers overreact with the gum stuff, Nice vid though! 🎉
I'm a Singaporean. alcohol restriction is only in certain places. you can drink alcohol in public in most places. you can eat small things and drink water in public transport without getting into trouble. the most important thing is not to litter if you decide to bring food or drinks into public transport. Most of the time you won't be fined or jailed unless you flagrantly break rules in front of officers or guards. getting drunk and disturbing the public can get you into trouble. as long as you're not a menace to society and have basic decency, you'll be alright.
But it’s true . Sg has v strict rules when it comes to drugs that are harmful towards ur health ( not like those medicine kind lah ) No joke so if u actually bring u will most likely be killed
I googled why gum is banned and here it is: The chewing gum ban was implemented to eradicate problems created by chewing-gum litter in public places like cinemas, parks and common areas of housing estates such as lifts, staircases and corridors, as well as the high costs involved to clean up the litter. 😅😅
As a Singaporean, it's not really illegal to chew gum here, a lot of people who come from Johor Baru like to bring chewing gum, and no one really checks you for it
as a singaporean, you can drink water on public transport, but you can't keep the bottle open for a long time or something like that, you have to drink what you need to, then close the cap or lid or whatever applies
I think no eating on public transit is a bad law in general but to be fair it can work if transit times are not high and everyone is well off. I think full on messy meals are not ok anywhere but snacking should be allowed especially without mess.
Yea that alcohol one was implemented like 10 years ago due to a riot in Little India. So it's mainly to prevent public disorder and discomfort. And for the no food on the bus rule, it's fine to bring food and drinks. Just don't eat it on the bus. Drinking plain water and eating candy is fine tho. I eat candy sometimes due to motion sickness. Just don't spit the candy on the floor.
@@Goated_DenzelCurryat least we dont live in a violent lawless broke hellhole like most of the region here. we are rich and sheltered and it is good
I live in sg and i never realised the privilege of going home alone at night with earbuds on without a care until i got older... living here does make me less aware of my surroundings... which isnt so good when i go overseas 😅
sure it’s safe, but still gotta be careful my friend said that sometimes when she takes a walk outside at like 11pm - 12am, there are people who try to kidnap her or just seem suspicious (pretty sure she walks on dark streets and alleys, cause this isn’t very common) (please don’t ask me why she does that. i, too, do not know) she’s been safe so far, but still, please be careful if you ever visit
not really it depends on where you go in sg but it is pretty safe.. unless you go to yishun or toa payoh got a lot of crazy ppl there but should still be careful even if it's safe
As a person who lives in Singapore, I can confirm that all these rules are true. The only problem in Singapore is that there is a lot of light pollution, meaning everywhere u go there will probably be light and it will be exceptionally bright even during noght
Malaysian here... let me say this... The only reason your country had to ammend a law to not sell chewing gum is not because people are spitting it everywhere.. it was because at one point in your ridiculous MRT history, your country brag about being a easily accessible country via public transport.. and how your MRT is like perfect without flaws. Except that one time some dude.. spit his chewing gum on your train tracks and caused a short circuit that combusted the circuit breakers of the MRT.. You know why is this ironic... your country rather BAN Chewing Gum... than actually educate the public to not spit on MRT rail tracks...
The rules seem strict, but they’re fair. They’re not authoritarian and dystopian. I’m sure you can still have a really fun time, while following rules meant to keep the city clean and safe! It’s no wonder it’s the second richest country in the world! Good job Singapore!
It’s absolutely dystopian to kill people over drugs tho. No hate, I live in the USA and we definitely have no room to crap on other countries. But some of the rules are insane, and executing people over drugs is wrong. At least the government actually keeps Singapore clean and safe, unlike my embarrassing country. Heavy fines for litter or unflushed toilets, I fully support 😂
@@autismworldtravel they are executing people over drug trafficking, not for drug consumption. Drug trafficking destroys several families and cause damage to society while drug consumers can be rehabilitated.
@@autismworldtravel well, singapore is trying to prevent its citizens from getting addicted to drugs, as a Singaporean i was super confused when i first found out that drugs are legal in some other countries💀
You cant get in trouble for littering and not flushing (realistically). Consuming on public transport is half and half, but plain water is fine. Alcohol consumption in public after 10 is a straight no. Vapes are also half and half, but ideally don't.
I remember a port visit to Singapore when I was in the Navy in the 1980s. Before we left the ship, we were told that spitting on the sidewalk in public was illegal and could get you heavily fined or jailed. I recall Singapore being the cleanest and most organized city I'd ever been to. I also met a beautiful girl who worked in the hotel where I was staying who kept a very random and memorable promise. :)
UK should implement all This rules Asap..Esp the spitting one.😩 With vaping it's got out of hand now.Kids/grown ups casually vaping/smoking in buses n trains.Like??😩..Then they shout, immigrants.
Actually it depends where u are.u can't litter in famous places, u can't buy gum or eat gum in public in Singapore but can in your house, u can ask the bus driver if u can eat or drink they will say yes but dont spill and u cannot bring durians and again it depends where u are u cannot smoke in famous places and elevators. For flushing toilets u must flush in famous places also. (But singapore really does not recommend to do these things and i dont know about the drinking one) Hope this helps!and correct me if im wrong
I mean as someone who lived in Singapore since I was 3, some if these laws are overly exaggerated. No one really cares if you drink plain water on public transport, just plain water is fine. Don't drink or eat anything other than simply water. Selling gum in Singapore is illegal, but you can buy gum from overseas and bring it in. The customs won't care about it(as far as I've known) Flushing public toilets is mandatory, but most people don't even know this law exists. You can go to a random public toilet in a Kopitiam(coffee shop/hawker centre) and see a toilet boil full of piss and shit, but no one cares about it(obviously it's better to flush, I'm not encouraging you to not)
I'm a Singaporean and all these rules are perfectly true except for the public transportation law. It is legal to drink water on public transportation but it is not often encouraged as local authority might see it as breaking the law. If it is other foods of drinks, you will be fined or kicked off the ride.
As a singaporian... U CAN EAT GUM JS DUN LITTER AND DO NOT SELL... however when i brought from overseas i put in my check in luggage... And you CAN drink water, however you cant drink like coke and stuff like that same for food.
However, her other things she said i think its correct. Singapore isnt that strict, just stricter than other countries. It is such a beautiful country i love sm.
Okay as someone from sg, a lot of this isn’t enforced. For example the toilet rule doesn't really matter since many public toilets have an autimatic flush now anyway. Also I rarely see the litter rule being enforced. There are also a ton of bins in sg so there isn’t really a big need to litter. Also u will see people drink water on public transport sometimes, u just have to be discreet, ofc u can't have food but sg is so small and public transport so fast that u always get home quickly. Plus I like the rule about vapes because they are terrible for people
I’m glad the comments cleared up the food and water thing, I have a health condition that literally requires me to have water 24/7 and even 5 minutes without it is too much sometimes. Putting Singapore back on the list!
As a Singaporean, there’s a secret from keeping our country clean. If you go deeper into the country, you will realise there is litter everywhere but it is still okay. The cleaners do the job and keep our Singapore clean, for tourists to come and see..
@ then all the sources online is incorrect. I can read for example “There's a rule that every tourist needs to know before hopping on the MRT: consuming food and drinks is banned. The rules are clear and extend beyond the trains themselves. In the stations, too, eating and drinking are not allowed except in designated areas. And yes, the rule doesn't even make an exception for water.” Do you have any source that it is allowed to drink plain water in the public transport in Singapore?
@ but there is a difference if you got in trouble or not vs if it is illegal or not. The question is if it is illegal and you probably knows that the best then but would like to see any source of it. Otherwise I understand if it is illegal but they don’t prioritize that crime.
I love singapore And my cousin lives there And it’s so beautiful there and the air is so fresh! As a Malaysian, I respect the strict rules in Singapore and I believe it is because of the strict rules that now Singapore is a top country
The rules are just there on paper and they sound very intimidating but its very VERY relaxed as long as you don't cause any major trouble. Hell most people break these laws almost daily.
@@maloudelosreyes661 So you are telling me that if someone is in the public transportation, is dehydrated and need water or else they’ll faint. So Singapore let them passed out or die? Or if someone has low blood sugar has an episode of low blood sugar and suddenly needs to consume something sweet while they are in a public transportation, they are not allowed? I’m confused😌😌😌😌
@joshuaramirez3440 i just read in the comments that they are not that strict with water consumption anywhere.. Just don't litter.. I like strict rules on littering esp plastic as they arent biodegradable and cause flooding-- blocking waterdrainage... Please read comments of Singaporeans who actually live there and explain.. I admire Singapore for their clean surroundings...
I’m a Singaporean and let me tell u whyyy 1.we don’t sell gum nor allow gum because in the olden days we did sell gum but people just stuck it everywhere and made it hard for the cleaners so Singapore decided to ban it 2.people still litter in Singapore but not many people do that cuz we wan a clean country for all and make the cleaners have a easier time 3. I mean it is common sense to flush the toilet cuz it’s disgusting if people use the toilet and don’t flush 4.YOU CAN DRINK WATER! It’s normal to drink water it’s okay to drink water but we don’t really like eating in the bus so it would be a clean environment for everybody 5. This is because we don’t want people to be drunk and driving because a lot of people drive when they are drunk and cause an accident so we try to prevent that from happening😊 6.WE HATE VAPING pls do not vape we don’t allow vaping because vaping can destroy your lungs you can smoke but we don’t really recommend it because it can also hurt your lungs and probably even turn black so on the boxes when we sell cigarettes it shows some disturbing pictures like a black lung or maybe some cancer or wtv so we don’t like vaping cuz we don wan something to happen to ur lungs! 7.I think the last on smoking?? We allow smoking but we don’t support it because as I said it can also hurt or lungs and cause maybe cancer we don’t do it in public areas as we don’t want others to take in the bad things I forgot what it’s called😅 don’t smoke in ur house pls 😊 Tbh to me we aren’t that strict it’s common sense cuz we don’t want people to get hurt or people to talk bad about Singapore people say we are the strictest country but I thought it was North Korea we aren’t that strict we just care for peoples health!❤ and Errm I actually snuck in gum before LOL dont let people see you have gum if not ur gonna be in trouble but if you hide it well enough and don’t get caught then u can eat it but not in public I eat my gum at home so nobody knows except for my family 😅 ok ty for seeing this!
As a singaporean this is true and you can eat gum but not so publicly telling everyone or chewing it in public you just can't sell gum the reason is some idoits would put them and stuck them in elevator doors and buttons and public viechle doors or inconvenient spots and under park bench and table and school properties
@UncleDan-dn6zx no it's not vaping, as that was it's own entry. it's referring to galaxy gas, aka nitrous oxide aka laughing gas. look up galaxy gas if you're unsure what it is
One time I was travelling as a tourist in Singapore and I was in a bus and some one was eating cuppa noodles, and the bus driver got so mad he was like ‘HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR MY BUS’ 😭😂 it was so funny man
As a Singaporean,Singapore I not that clean .If you go to a random HTB you will find some litter around and gum is not illegal you just cannot sell it or give it.
Idk how to feel about the 4th rule…. 😭 Like, I understand why they put it in but me personally, I’m a diabetic and I don’t feel like passing out in the middle of the train
You can drink water, they’ll close a blind eye especially if its from a water bottle. If you drink other drinks they will announce on the PA system but if you continue drinking it they can block you from going out by making an error at the point of tapping out and will give you a warning when you approach the ticket office or just fine you.but if you’re taking the the bus you can eat snacks and drink bubble tea the driver wont care as long as youre careful but if you buy durian, make sure its vacuum sealed its not allowed on any form of transport even the private hire vehicle. The toilet one, literally have never heard of anyone getting fined of course most people flush but the rare times when they dont, they dont get fined either.😅
if you bring not opened drinks (I'm talking about bubble tea etc.) you can sometimes bring them on buses and mrt, just don't open or drink them while you're on the transport. Still, it's best to make sure they're in plastic bags (any type of drink holder) and not openly show them off. Saying this as a Singaporean, we don't really mind if you drink on bus/mrt as long as you don't spill it everywhere and clean up if you do spill slightly. Don't open strong smelling food on public transport, naturally. If you eat something small like candy or small snacks we won't mind, just don't make a mess or eat very loudly.
The sale of gum is prohibited yes but you can bring in your own chewing gum in normal quantities (e.g. a packet or a few is passable), locals travel to malaysia to buy and bring back. The only ILLEGAL thing is when people discard gum anywhere else other than the bin.
I’m glad Singaporeans r pointing out a few misconceptions and clarifying cuz I was like, not being able to eat or drink even water on public transport sounds like a major health hazard, esp in a fckin tropical country 😭😂
As someone who had lived in sg thier whole life some of these rules are exaggerated. Like on the bus you can still drink water and u might be able to eat depending on how chill the driver is. Ive eaten infron of the driver b4 she didnt say anything i guess its only if u drop some of the food. And the gum is illegal in sg but if u bring it from overseas they might not take it from u as many ppl bring gum from malaysia

As a Singaporean. Gum is allowed to be taken in from overseas but not in bulk, maybe just a bottle and that’s all they will allow. You aren’t allowed to sell gum but it is allowed to be consumed

DAT is true
other than water might be a necessity for someone who may be dehydrated, sounds like i wish We could adopt a lot of those rules here in the USA.. yea ye.."Merica".. tired of people trashing the side of the road, leaving dirty diapers in parking lots, spilling food ( nachos ) all over bus seats, train seats, etc..

I have clubbed in Singapore many times and they definitely do serve alcohol past midnight, this girl doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

i remember when an entire level in my school was held back after a vape talk cause quite a few of them were caught vaping
Let's be honest
As a local, I've seen each one of these rules being broken everyday and few, if any of the locals really care.
Second rule is probably the least enforced imo, if you head out anywhere past the city centre/tourist areas, litter isn't hard to find
Fourth rule is abit more lax when you're in the bus. Beverage consumption is generally acceptable in buses, you might even spot someone taking a surreptitious bite of some snack (quite rare tho). It's only in the train where consuming anything is actually prohibited, though I've seen someone sipping on some water during peak hour rush (not recommended though, it ain't worth playing roulette when there like 1 CCTV cam per 2-4 carriage doors in the train)
Sixth/seventh rule is often flouted but not openly. If you head over to the heartlands, you'll find youth consuming such (unfortunately in schools too, where it's mostly done in toilets)
So yea...it's not that all these rules are effective, they're really just out of immediate sight

We were flying into Singapore and the Qantas flight attendant is like just so you know if you have drugs you will be killed 😂
But it’s true . Sg has v strict rules when it comes to drugs that are harmful towards ur health ( not like those medicine kind lah )
No joke so if u actually bring u will most likely be killed
Same for thailand, indonesia n malaysia
Yup but vapes are considered a drug here too fyi, and any cigarettes more than 1 open box can be taxed
I googled why gum is banned and here it is: The chewing gum ban was implemented to eradicate problems created by chewing-gum litter in public places like cinemas, parks and common areas of housing estates such as lifts, staircases and corridors, as well as the high costs involved to clean up the litter.
😅😅
@@zakeibc open also not allowed now... i've been told to throw away my ciggarrette...
As a Singaporean, it's not really illegal to chew gum here, a lot of people who come from Johor Baru like to bring chewing gum, and no one really checks you for it
This sounds like a dream for me honestly haha
😂
All those rules should be applied in every country of the world 🌎
as a singaporean, you can drink water on public transport, but you can't keep the bottle open for a long time or something like that, you have to drink what you need to, then close the cap or lid or whatever applies
The reason gum is banned. Is because trash is banned. ❤

Singaporean here 🇸🇬🇸🇬 gum is allowed but you can't sell or dispose improperly hope this helps!
@KingKong-hf5kg i didn't know that last part, thank you so much for clarifying.

@@autismworldtravelthey can just not take drugs

You cant get in trouble for littering and not flushing (realistically). Consuming on public transport is half and half, but plain water is fine. Alcohol consumption in public after 10 is a straight no. Vapes are also half and half, but ideally don't.
ANOTHER MISCONCEPTION: you can bring food and drinks on public transportation
.You're just not supposed to:
• spill it
• drink/eat it
I drink bbt and eat all the time tho 😅
I remember a port visit to Singapore when I was in the Navy in the 1980s. Before we left the ship, we were told that spitting on the sidewalk in public was illegal and could get you heavily fined or jailed. I recall Singapore being the cleanest and most organized city I'd ever been to. I also met a beautiful girl who worked in the hotel where I was staying who kept a very random and memorable promise. :)

The customs won't care about it(as far as I've known)
Flushing public toilets is mandatory, but most people don't even know this law exists. You can go to a random public toilet in a Kopitiam(coffee shop/hawker centre) and see a toilet boil full of piss and shit, but no one cares about it(obviously it's better to flush, I'm not encouraging you to not)
As long as u declare the gum and not have an insane amount of it a pack or 2 won't get u in any trouble
@@nil_system yea
I'm a Singaporean and all these rules are perfectly true except for the public transportation law. It is legal to drink water on public transportation but it is not often encouraged as local authority might see it as breaking the law. If it is other foods of drinks, you will be fined or kicked off the ride.
Honestly, they ain’t really strange. It’s keeping the people healthy, and discouraging addiction.

Worth visiting sg, just make sure to stick to the rules... And just know the rules are to keep the country safe... :)
As a singaporean citizen I loves those rules Singapore is so oraganise

1.we don’t sell gum nor allow gum because in the olden days we did sell gum but people just stuck it everywhere and made it hard for the cleaners so Singapore decided to ban it
2.people still litter in Singapore but not many people do that cuz we wan a clean country for all and make the cleaners have a easier time
3. I mean it is common sense to flush the toilet cuz it’s disgusting if people use the toilet and don’t flush
4.YOU CAN DRINK WATER! It’s normal to drink water it’s okay to drink water but we don’t really like eating in the bus so it would be a clean environment for everybody
5. This is because we don’t want people to be drunk and driving because a lot of people drive when they are drunk and cause an accident so we try to prevent that from happening😊
6.WE HATE VAPING pls do not vape we don’t allow vaping because vaping can destroy your lungs you can smoke but we don’t really recommend it because it can also hurt your lungs and probably even turn black so on the boxes when we sell cigarettes it shows some disturbing pictures like a black lung or maybe some cancer or wtv so we don’t like vaping cuz we don wan something to happen to ur lungs!
7.I think the last on smoking?? We allow smoking but we don’t support it because as I said it can also hurt or lungs and cause maybe cancer we don’t do it in public areas as we don’t want others to take in the bad things I forgot what it’s called😅 don’t smoke in ur house pls 😊
Tbh to me we aren’t that strict it’s common sense cuz we don’t want people to get hurt or people to talk bad about Singapore people say we are the strictest country but I thought it was North Korea we aren’t that strict we just care for peoples health!❤ and Errm I actually snuck in gum before LOL dont let people see you have gum if not ur gonna be in trouble but if you hide it well enough and don’t get caught then u can eat it but not in public I eat my gum at home so nobody knows except for my family 😅 ok ty for seeing this!

I am totally cool with maintaining cleanliness in a country. It keeps ur energy up and makes u feel lighter in ur space.
The only ILLEGAL thing is when people discard gum anywhere else other than the bin.
these rules aren't strictly enfored, feel free to do these things if you need to, but i really do not encourage them
