      I mean it's not just notations, you would need to know the game and be able to visualize it in your head. It's pretty high level stuff.

      I don't claim that I do it as fast or as deep as them, but I can definitely discuss variations in my head with similarly rated opponents like me and Magnus and Ian forgot more about chess than I know. It's just practice.

      @@NMKT17 Magnus definitely is better than Nepo & has a dominant record against him, but still, he has to try much more than he does against all but a handful of other opponents. And their rivalry did start with Nepo beating him to the U12 world title

    Its amazing to see how they can go back in their mind to certain position in a moment of game and replay some variation to discuss the chess in its pure way. I can do the same... about food or movie. Only that thought keeps me from feeling bad about myself :D

    Not only are they doing all this in their heads like they're discussing the weather, but Magnus very correctly pointing out at the end of this sequence "white is better" without a moment of hesitation, just makes me realize how hopeless my chess ambitions are.

      Engine evaluation isn't human evaluation, especially in fast time formats. With that kind of microscopic difference, the engine is essentially saying that anything can happen

      I can look away from the board and calculate out 3 or 4 moves ahead and I still lose 98% of games to someone with a National Master or FIDE Master title.

      Saw a video once, I forget how many games it was (I think 6 or so?) that Magnus played simultaneously... blind. He could not see any of the boards but was able to keep them all in his mind at once. Incredible.

      @@TommyBo42 Six is nothing. Magnus has done twenty at least. Najdorf did 45. I remember one reporter asked Magnus how he memorized all the positions and he said, "That would be impossible. When I step up to each board I replay all the moves [in my head]."

      In the end Magnus kind of agreed with Nepo when he said "practically speaking". The eval bar doesnt tell the whole story. We have to take into account how difficult the moves are.

    Nepo thinks he is right and magnus already said it’s still okey for white. Nepo kept going and resulted in magnus to escape the conversation with saying “yea practically”.
    Computer say it’s clear advantage for white and Magnus knew that. He is above level of Nepo.

    I assume Nepo lost the game he is discussing, and has thought of something he could have done different. Then Magnus gives his alternative, of what he would have done, to simplify the board (as black). Nepo doesn't like it, still likes his idea, but Magnus is not convinced. I don't know what black's next move is, in Nepo's variation, but looks like white moves Queen to g1, protected by the knight there? Queen exchange?
    Seems like black's queen is kinda trapped there, even though it seems threatening.
