NO the team is done! Baseball is a mental game and the team is done! Lets start cheering for a total collapse for a couple reasons. #1 higher draft pick #2 wake up call to the front office to make drastic changes #3 Total and utter collapse of people showing up to the ballpark because that seems to be the ONLY thing this ownership group responds to. Honestly man I hope you read this post there is only one WAY out of this mess a total rebuild that will take at least three years. You need to get Matz - Gray - Miles off the books before you can start over. You've got to trade Gray and pay half his salary, ship Nolan somewhere for basically nothing to get out from under his deal, I think you MIGHT be able to get something for Contras, and you'll get a mint for your closer. There is nothing else to trade that is how bad the Cardinals are. I don't think anyone would want Fedde he's terrible. From there I think you cut loose Gorman, trade Nootbar, Donovan because those guys won't be on the new timeline. Its a from scratch reboot with a COMMITMENT to fans that management will invest up to 250 million into payroll when or if the teams younger core is ready. Management gets down to about 60 million in payroll in 2026 then go from there... see what you have. If those young players aren't working out keep trading until you have a top 5 farm system. The only other option is for the management to SPEND and SPEND A LOT, trade away all their prospects like the Yankees would do. Otherwise I think the Cardinals are a 70 win team next year. Who's going to care about that? More interesting to talk about a building team.
SHORT TERM SOLUTION for Cardinals: Sign someone like Bieber to something like 2 years for 25 million. Get Max on a 20 million one year deal. Then trade for Mike Trout I know I know whatever bad idea. You roll the dice on Mike Trout by taking on HALF of his reminder salary. The angles are going to trade him. Trout does a couple things for the Cardinals. #1 Star Power someone to sell tickets to see play. #2 One of the ten best players in baseball STILL if healthy. You're banking hoping he's over all these injuries. You could move Trout to DH. The Angles have no choice and the Cardinals would be about the ONLY team in baseball that would make this deal. They need Trout and two starting pitchers.

FINALLY you’ve shifted to reality the Cardinals ARE NOT going to be going to the playoffs. With that being said Gray is the worst free agent signing in Cardinal history because he’s going to make 30/35 million over the next two years. Miles will be making 19 million, Matz another 13 million. This owner will NOT be spending anything on an ACE! It just isn’t going to happen. I think the Cardinals are going to keep Gibson, Lynn, the whole group. They’ll say our pitching staff is fine we just need a hitter. This team is stuck!

And Amed Rosario is currently up for grabs! Infield and out! Grab him and figure out the 40-man! Way better than Crawford, but Crawford isn't going anywhere, so figure something else out.
As for contracts maybe we need them to be front loaded heavy and then put incentives for later years with club buy outs

When will people start looking at this coaching staff instead of just blaming the players for not performing? I mean look at last year and most of this year. I think it might be time to move some staff around.
Yes, we need an ace so Gray can slide into the two slot. But unless Dewitt brings in a replacement for Mo so he can officially retire from organization control a year early, it's not going to happen. Even then they have to hire someone who is capable of overhauling the whole system from to to bottom and bring in real talent in key positions. Is Dewitt actually going to be willing to spend the money needed to fix the organization? I have my doubts. I hope so but I'm not holding my breath.

We dont need 1 good starter. We need 3 or 4. Gray is the only one i would keep. Possibly Gibson.
I’m also hoping Jordan Walker has regained his hitting eye and honed his fielding skills. If not, we will have only one plus guy on defense in our OF. That being Siani or Scott in CF. Pham is fair and Walker was poor the last time he was with the Cards. A weak OF defense in RF and LF wont help our rotation much no matter who we pick up.
Like you pointed out yesterday- there is no indication that the owner is willing to open his check book for even one very good starter let alone the 2 or 3 we badly need. We have no star pitchers coming up in our farm system either. Moz has bled that source dry over the past decade and got very little to show for it. We should quit relying on Mikolas whose only had one good season with us since that first year (2018?) and Matz has been on the IL most of the 3 years he’s been with the Cards. Don’t expect anything better from either of them. Cut both of them loose and either trade for or buy the arms we need to be a winning team with a chance of doing well in the post season. If DeWitt is unwilling to do this, i am fairly sure his loyal fan base is going to fade away taking most of the great revenue they provide with them. Loyalty is a 2 way street and DeWitt seems unaware of it.

Walker shouldn't even be up in the StL clubhouse. He did nothing in AAA ro deserve a call-up. He can''t play defense, now he can't even hit. He was 0-3 or 0-4 in the game he played in Cincy, and looked horrible. He should be sent back down, no reason to take playing time away from anyone else. Walker is done on this team.
Dewitt needs to sell. Mozeliak needs to move on with his ridiculous gimmicks. And we need a real baseball guy directing from the dugout.
