I wasn't convinced in the beginning about buying this because it didn't seem to affect the tone too much. But after experimenting and watching how other people figured out how to implement this plugin. I bought it. I forgot where I saw a video, but someone explained that the 'intense' setting is great for rhythm guitars and the 'normal' setting is better for leads. This might be tip of the iceberg, but I will be following how other people go about using this.
Bogren says add this plugin after your IR. So if you’re using an amp sim with a built in IR this does go after the amp sim. But if you're using an IR loader after an amp sim then this plugin goes after the IR loader.
Honestly it sounds like a dynamic eq paired with saturation. It's not a massive game changing thing but I can see how it can add that subtle 5% extra to add movement. It's something that can be recreated but it's easier to just use a plugin that has an amount you can use.
I got the MLC plugin because there was something there with the IRDX that makes it feel more alive like playing through a real setup. Great for practicing with!
I am currently trialing the plugin, and I fiddled around with stacking multiple instances to hear better what it does. Still not convinced that I would really need this plugin.
I use a real all valve amp into a Two Notes Torpedo Live. I didn't think the IRDX core would do a huge difference since the push from a real amp gives you that grit and depth. But. It actually made it sound more... rich... I have a few guitar tracks on my harddrive recorded with real amp and real cab and with the IRDX my other tracks with the torpedo live sound.... exactly like the real amp/cab tracks. So impressed by this plugin.
I feel it just takes the place of a few steps I do in a mix by adding a little gain saturation to lower end with compression and boost in high mids. If you compared the same steps in a full mix I really dont think you will hear a difference then skipping these steps and adding the plugin.
I really like it in my mix. I tend to do it dialed back a tad while playing/tracking though (throws my attack/palm mute off i think). I think I'm just use to flat/stale/digital guitar tones haha.
Hi, I would like to know if we use an external guitar simulator, like the Headrush MX5, if we should deactivate all the effects after the IR on the MX5? Thanks
Can definitely hear a subtle washyness or slight warble effect going on like you'd get from a moving speaker when the plugin was engaged. I was skeptical going in but hearing the guitar solo'd I could hear a difference. It's very subtle, but it's there. Is basically the "humanize" function like you get on EZ Drummer for guitar. I recall Glenn Fricker once referring to IR's as a canned sound. Looks like Bogren may have found the can opener.
It for sure adds some mojo, but would be nice if you had an option to disable that high end fuzziness on intense mode. Now I'd like to try and see if you can get similar kind of thing using multiband expander on lows and highs for example to get more movement and life.
I was watching a video on Leon Todd's Channel where in the Preset, a subtle Tremolo was turned on, and all of a sudden the guitar sounded more alive, dynamic, and real.
Hey there, I didn't notice anything like that personally, but to be fair I tend to track guitars with the fewest amount of plugins anyway, and then put this on after
for me it only added more low end and made the guitars louder. I think it just fools you into thinking it sounds better since it boost db and low end. also this is what they tried to get rid of back in the analog days. and now we want to recreate it haha.
I tried it and for me the difference was brutal. Suddenly the guitars came to life, occupying a three-dimensional space. You don't hear it, you feel it. I can't live without this plugin anymore.
Just want to be clear - are you putting this BETWEEN the amp sim (with the cab section turned off) and an IR loader, or are you keeping the cab section of the amp sim on and then just putting the plugin after that?
The plugin should go directly after the IR loader. In my case, I'm using EN Hardball which has an included IR loader, so the IRDX goes directly after that. If I was using an IR loader instead, it would go after the IR loader.
Thanks, Scott. I downloaded the IRDX Core trial and using it now on my mixes. Going to continue to use for the next week or 2 and determine if I want to invest the $.
Wow, it really gives ''life'' to the IR. Irregularity is what makes it sound more human. It's exactly the same for synth sounds, you need movements, automations and irregularities to make it sound less ''computery'' hehe Sometimes it's cool to have something that sound digital and lifeless but yeah, this plugin is insane tbh.
It really did make the guitars come to life and made them less digital sounding. Made them sound bigger, fuller, more detailed and audible while retaining the clarity and detail of everything sound around them. Usually when something (in the digital domain) gets bigger and fuller it masks a lot of other things in the mix. I wonder how this thing goes with just using it as a mixing tool not on guitars after IR's.
Ok, so I've been trying it out on programmed Hip Hop drums and VST Instruments, this thing also does a similar thing to all sounds run through it. Really quite a good plugin, only downfall I can see is the CPU/DSP load.
A few of us bombarded poor Jens with this request, peer pressure works! Jokes aside, the response and feel is like night and day. Essential purchase for me.
@@ChernobylAudio666nembrini amps are cool, but the pedals?? I’m not sure if it’s their pedals or the amps not taking pedals well or user error honestly.

It’s true about IR’s. Like whenever I record my can speaker with a mic you can feel a bit of the movement transfer in the feel of the tone vs a static IR
It’s a really subtle thing And it’s more of a feel and less of a hear thing But there definitely is a difference in sound! Love it dude! And I love the riffs!
Just sounds like it's adding the hissy crap that I hated when I used to mic up cabs. While a real cab may indeed be nonlinear, IMO the difference is not significant.
10:56 That's where "Guitar Tone Mastery" comes in! I love this course, the fundamentals alone have helped me improve. Still far from mastery but a lot better than where I was before!
I got DT1990 phones a few months ago, best investment ever. I can most certainly hear the difference plain as day. Thank you for the compare demo and use info!
Perhaps, but also adds movement and a 3D quality without degrading the guitar tone - which is a big deal. The last thing I want to fight with is rounding off my guitar tone so that is sounds soft and not aggressive... they've done some machine learning something-or-other... the effect is subtle, but it does work
Dynamics don't change when you make an IR, cabs don't affect dynamics..... MIkko from ML Sound Lab already proved that.. this plugin is indeed a scam because it says it does smth that it really does not do... what it really does tho is act almost like a guitar exciter or a preamp adding saturation to the signal.
