Why I am quitting being a pastor.

  • After a lot of prayer and discernment, I am taking a step forward, by giving up being a pastor. If you know me, you have probably seen this coming from a mile away. While I absolutely do not speak for all pastors, I can say with sincerity that there is a lot of pressure on pastors. It is a call that is not easy. Many pastors are overworked and spiritually drained. On top of that, they have to worry about a thousand different parts of leading a church, before they can even get to serious justice ministries, if their congregation allows that sort of thing at all. Most don't.
    In truth, my heart and ministry begins with justice and witness. Because of that, I have to leave the pulpit and see where else God is leading me.
    About Out of the Pulpit
    My name is Jonathan, and I am just a young pastor trying to live that ministry life the best that I can. As a part of Out of the Pulpit, you will see a wide arrange of videos, in an attempt to show you that the life of a pastor is not a boring stagnant one, but a fun and exciting one! The reality is that your pastor is a real person, just like you. Yes, we do “churchy” things, but we also have friends and family that we love spending time with, and the occasional vacation!
    Whether you are here because you might be interested in ministry yourself, or maybe you stumbled across the page watching cruise vlogs or Disney vlogs, I am so happy that you are here!
    Stay Connected!
    If you are seeing this, that means you have already found my channel, Out of the Pulpit! Thank you for the visit! If you like what you see, please do “like”, “subscribe”, “share” and hit that notification bell to stay up to date with my most recent videos about the life of ministry!
    / @outofthepulpit
    I also have an Instagram account by the same name! New content comes out regularly, and you can see a more in-depth look at what I am up to on the daily life!
    / outofthepulpit
    Fresh Content
    I love making new content! Which means that there will be new vlogs on this channel every Thursday at 3:21pm! On my Instagram account, I post new content nearly every day. With Instagram, you will get an even closer look at my life! I also promise a new video every week on Instagram that will be shorter in length and generally more of a teaching/motivational video.
    Support
    The easiest way to support Out of the Pulpit, is to simply stay engaged with the content. The more you interact with my videos on RUclips or content on Instagram, the more reach I will be able to get. The bigger the reach, the bigger the ministry. Social media all works by using complicated algorithms, which tells the platform which videos are out there that are doing the best. The best performing content gets pushed out to more viewers. What that means is, the more you watch, like, subscribe, follow and share, the more Out of the Pulpit content gets pushed to new viewers.
    Equipment Used
    Google Pixel 4xl. Yes really, that is all I use!

    How can a pastor be advocating the queer community that goes against biblical you preach to them and by God’s grace, they may repent and be converted because that is very necessary to leave your past life behind

      Well, I can promise you that most people who are LGBQT+ did not make a "Decision" to be that way. I've known two gay guys that tell me how it was from childhood that they felt gay. They did not choose to become gay. Both looked kindof feminine, so I think it's some type of genetic defect that occurs during pregnancy where the fetus does not get enough male testosterone from the mother. So, it makes the baby's brain confused (when it is born) because it is male-body but female-brain, and that's what I think gay children are. And, vice versa for the lesbians. So, it's not some MORAL CHOICE ... ha ha ha; if you think that, then you are really ignorant of how they feel. I know people that say they would do ANYTHING, almost anything, to be normal; but, in their minds, they know that they are born different. So, religion is a man-made construct that happened before Science could understand these things, so the Church has to update its morality and realize that LGBQT+ people aren't sinners and evil and demon-possessed (as my Pastor taught). That's sin and evil to say that about people.

    Hey, man, God bless you. Well done for being so brave courageous in this matter. God will still be with you and you don't need the pomp and formality of the ministry and the capital-C Church to serve God and other people... y'know, like Jesus told us to. For what it's worth, I'm in a similar boat. I'm not ordained yet (I served in a semi-ordained role in a previous parish) and am due to be attending seminary this September, but the Church has, honestly fucked me over so many times that I'm at my wit's end, and feel like I'm going to have a nervous breakdown if I don't get some distance from it all.
    I've been in a couple of different denoms (currently C of E, i.e. grandaddy Episcopalian) and I've been neglected, ignored, fobbed off, sidelined etc. I'm at breaking point, and there is nothing wrong with doing what's right for you. It can be hard when you feel called to ordination, but if the Church is actually diminishing your love for God and folk, taking a break is no bad thing. Don't lose heart. You seem like a lovely guy and things will work out for you in the end. It's all about agape at the end of the day. Love from across the pond, brother. Godspeed.

      Stop looking for religion and seek a relationship with Jesus and with the Father through Him. You are looking in all the wrong places... you should know God hates profanity... why do you choose to speak that way?

    I don't know you or your channel, but I wish you the best of luck. Being a Pastor seems very stressful, and some of these comments are ignorant and judgmental. It seems like a tough situation to be in, but I hope it turns out well for you.

      You want to be a politician not a pastor. After the election of Donald Trump I never want to hear another pastor talk about politics again.

    • @PoeLemic

      @@BLFulle Well, many Christian denominations have respect and support for people with different sexual orientations (i.e., LGBQT+ individuals). And, try to open your heart to them, instead of "turning it hard" and thinking that they are fallen, lustful, and living lives of sin. Trust me. I've known people who were gay or lesbian, and they are great people. Nothing wrong with them at all. Just a mind/body-connection that makes them have a different sexual orientation. That's all. So try to show them love, just like the CHurch learned to do for BLACK PEOPLE after the 1950's and 1960's when the Government forced Americans to no longer discriminate against them and allowed to have equal facilities. So, the LGBQT+ is just the next taboo to overcome for society ... and for the Church, too.

    Plus all the overthinking is exhausting. Being anxious that you are doing things right. People need to get over the way that God interacts with gay people. They don’t have to fit your processes. The traditions of church and the love of Christ can often conflict and that is sad!

    You were not called to be Pastor Sir. Pastors are paid, servants. They tell people what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. You were called to be a Prophet. Prophets are truth-tellers-Telling people what God had instructed you to say to them. There is a difference- understand the difference. Do not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Don’t quit. Redefine and recognize your true calling. Ephesians 4:11. What are the qualities of the Prophet? Truthfulness. Courage. Faithfulness/trust when the deaf and the blind refuse to hear or see. You are preaching to itching ears (2 Timothy 4). You have been positioned in the wrong place. 'Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. (Matthew 7:6). This is exactly what happened to you and what has also happened to many who were also called.
    Search your heart and ask God for direction. Go fast and pray. after that change your location and start a new season in a different location.

    Too political? Jesus was political. If u speak to any justice issues, you have to be political. Poltical doesnt mean preaching, "be a republican" or "be a democrat". It means calling for systemic change.

      @DanLee8884 3 месяца назад

      @Be4Him66 again, being political doesn't only mean being for one party. Jesus was political against the system that is corrupt and marginalizes people. What do u think the "kingdom" language is about? A heavenly kingdom, one ruled by God. Again mlk jr is a great example. We are called obey laws if they are just, to resist laws that are unjust...that is being political. You cant solve isms, hunger, poverty, by individual action. It needs to be addressed on a larger scale aka politically.

  • @isosoriharrison9556
    @isosoriharrison9556 Год назад +3

    I need to be real with you, pastors cannot be tied to anything politically, because that’s not what they come here to do. Pastors are not come to be politicians. They are coming to be called to deliver the message of the gospel. That means siding with anybody that is sinful is a complete disrespect to the pulpit. It doesn’t matter if it’s conservative or liberal, you need to align yourself with God’s word.
    I can already tell you if you support social justice issues or LGBT then you shouldn’t even be in any kind of role at a church at all. Not just a pastor, but you shouldn’t be part of any involvement in ministry. Because you’re not aligning yourself with God at that point. We can go over why those two things are unbiblical but I think the point is they were right to let you go for those reasons.
    With that being said, I would learn from your failure, and if you’re ever interested in ministry, I suggest you go through training. One thing that I will agree with you on though is Pastor should be able to Xpress the truth, but you also need to figure out how to communicate that truth without it being against God’s Word. People need to be very careful even what church to pastor at because not all churches are part of God’s kingdom as a whole and no Pastor’s gonna be able to save that church. Also, it’s not your control rather a church survives or not that is completely up to God. The lack of faith, I think as well a lot of pastors show in their character. The most successful churches out there are going to be your most faithful churches, but again, even the most faithful churches could be subject to failing as well. It’s all about faith and faithfulness because if you’re running the church like a business obviously you’re gonna have anxiety over these things. Churches are not businesses they are places for worship, and that’s how Church is your always be treated. If you have people there, they get ruffled feathers. It’s probably a better choice that they leave your congregation so that you could get people that want to hear the truth and worship God.

    You were never called to be a Pastor.
    A Pastor is a shepherd and oversees the spiritual growth and discipleship of their members. While they may get involved in community outreach and injustice, that is not your primary role. Nor should involving yourself in political and secular agendas be your priority. That is operating outside of the role that God intended for Church Pastors. I know we have seen examples of this, some successful and others not so. Either way, Pastors who do this are operating outside of their calling.
