Not a legit drag race without the f104 starfighters :)
Something missing in ac7 multiplayer: drag race and racing mode
Or the bac lightning, that's what it was built for, and 1 in particular overtook concorde in a top speed tail chase not long after it outzoomed the Lockheed blackbird
Very true
I want one so bad. I know they're next to useless but that's half of why I want one. LOL!
@@bobwaldren462Not hard to out climb and out accelerate a Blackbird. The thing accelerated like a cow.
We don't need war, we need military based Olympics!!!
There was a Star Trek episode about a planet that really existed kind of like that. They were at constant war but it was all a simulation.
@@sandpiper9288 It was a Star Trek episode.
@@andreabindolini7452 ehh yeah trek
@@sandpiper9288Except they would allow themselves to be disintegrated in a machine.
In real life I am skeptical of the F-16 beating the F-15 in a drag race.
I don't know. The F-15C has a .02 advantage in thrust/weight ratio. But is also slight umder 10,000 pounds heavier (empty weight).
The Eagle is supremely faster at top speed.
Mach 2.5 verses mach 1.7 for the Falcon
However at acceleration from 0. I wouldn't be surprised if the Falvon beats the Eagle more times than not down in the dense air.
The key would be tje specific drag coefficient of each airframe, and the actual length of the race, say 10 milles at 500 feet max altitude.
Than how the variables of the local weather favor one frame over the other that day.
It's never as simple as the numbers.
And I can't find drag coefficient in a quick Google search.
@@Markbell73the Falcon can actually do slightly over Mach 2.
@@lucaswoods1155 well, not according to the information I read in my search.
Regardless, The Eagle is faster.
But from a standing start. I'd say the Falcon has a really good chance of winning the drag race.
@@Markbell73there are actual F-16 pilots who have said they have gone that fast but obviously under specific conditions like no outer pylons low fuel and I believe up at altitude.
@@lucaswoods1155 why are you debating me? I stated earlier that the information I stated was what I found in my search.
I conveyed what I found. I made no absolution about what a Falcon can or can't do.
The only thing I know with any certainty is that the Eagle is faster. To the tune lf mach 2.5.
And that's public info. It could go faster perhaps.
Nice that F4 allowed lesser airyplanes to win.
Imagine a WW2 pilot seeing this. What modern planes can do now would blow their mind!
They'd REALLY hope the plane they're seeing is on their side.
I think air combat today would depressed all of them.. Air to Air + man to man aerial combat is truly a lost art.. You wanna talk about PURE combat flying.. P-51 Mustang against German and Jap's best.. AND, if lucky.. P-38 Lightning.. We likely won't have pilots in planes beyond the current generation.. Humans are just too slow and fragile.. The airframes are wickedly better than what we can handle within them..
You can see the reaction of usaf pilots when he sees the german jet for the first time 😂 “what the fuck was that?!?!? “
When I was a kid my dad brought home a 386 PC and a color monitor. I thought I was in computer game heaven with 256 colors and a brand new game called Falcon and then Falcon AT. The artwork on the box didn't look as good as the graphics on this game. A person from the 1940's would be shocked not only by the real thing but just this sim would shock the crap out of them. (It would have shocked a kid in the 80's)
My father was a United States Army Air Corps pilot during WWII. He flew commercial airliners until 1978, he lived until 1996. Believe me, plenty of WWII veterans saw alot of or even flew modern jet aircraft. You had the SR-71 come out in the 1960s, more stealthy aircraft in the 1980s etc....
Would be funny to see a highest vertical push before stall in one of these, rules would be get up, wheels up, straight push to vertical, last to stall / highest altitude wins XD.
Eagle wins
@@HowlingPhantom it should, but be interesting to see how the rest fair.
@@DrenoshGaming that’s true
Yeah, and I'd like to see how long they can go on full AB before running out of fuel (internal only).
Needed the Typhoon in there too..... and nice to have a Quick Climb Friday after the sprint.
Yeah more RAF aircraft
Yeah one of its main purposes is as an interceptor so it should do well here. With how quickly it can go vertical from start I think it might even win that one.
ruclips.net/user/shorts94hFOuy9paQ?si=SVJ-NjzCkvNUOSu3
Yeah more Luftwaffe aircraft
But the F-4 was in a great shooting position!!!
The main take-home from this is how desperately DCS needs the English Electric Lightning . . .
taking off with the wings back causes MORE drag not less, because you need alot more alpha for the same lift, thats why it has a cadc
Yep, and you want full flaps too - just be careful not to overspeed them, or the gear!
@@kaesees you do t need flaps when doing this. You're through that speed range so quickly you're just asking to jam them
Needs a BAE Lighting.
I'll see your Lightning and raise you a TSR2 (In my dreams)
@@SilkyBadger If we're allowed prototypes, I'll take the SR.53. Jet AND rocket engines ;)
It will lose horribly
EE *uck the BAE part of it LOL/
@@EEEEEEE354 @50k FPM maybe not.
still love the F/A-18. Magnificent, reliable multi-role aircraft..
And think about it...the Phantom held speed records for YEARS...
It would be interesting to compare against the old English Electric Lightning, an aircraft designed for the sole purpose of intercepting high altitude Russian bombers. It could climb out at 20,000 ft/min and hit 88,000 ft altitude. It was proven to be able to intercept the U2.
The Harrier: Now let’s do it starting in the bush.
Gotta say I’m loving the Phantom.
Same here. I was really hard on Heatblur/Eagle Dynamics for all the delays and whatnot...but once I got it, I am VERY impressed. Not only the myriad of loadouts available, but the little attention to details like being able to click on a control and it takes you straight to the manual to explain what it is...that is just amazing. I can't wait to learn all there is about it. Some of the historical scenarios possible with the maps available are endless. Now we need that Vietnam map...
Pretty good for initial launch. I just wish they hadn't spent so much effort on goofy features no one will ever use.
I've only had a couple hours in it, but a lot of A-4 knowledge transfers over. Can't wait to spend a whole weekend in this thing!
@@Majima_Nowhere It's what I am doing right now! I took a break to watch a tutorial on air combat. Headed right back in shortly. See you in the air!
It's strange because everyone IRL complains how weak the Hornet is in acceleration.
My Thoughts exactly, I think The Flight Model is seriously broken even Gonky said as much
OMG a VFA-22 Fighting Redcocks Legacy Hornet, whoever picked that skin i thank you good sir. The first squadron i remember my dad being in and my favorite squadron. YCBAR, You Can't Beat A Redcock
I can beat a white one pretty good, if you know what i mean
Sure you can... VFA-105 TRIPLE CONSECUTIVE BATTLE E winners.. Gunslingers for life. best squadron in the Navy as far as I know our triple battle E has not been achieved again.
I’d be interested to see how all these fighters hold up on a longer corse.
Was wondering how long I had to wait for this, Phantom v Hornet was a big question I had
With the F-15C's thrust to weight ratio, it's no surprise it did so well.
Does it pretty much stack up by thrust to weight?
@@jonah2047 I mean, it's natural that I'm going to bet on the aircraft that was famous for shooting down a satellite in space... in a drag race to space.
I always look forward to the GR drag races, and this one is no exception
You conveniently left out the A-10? Don't dare to dethrone the F-16?
The A-10 is NOT a fighter aircraft.
Not only that, compared to these, it's Slooooow af lol.
At least the good old Harrier, beat the parachutists!
Pretty cool. Of course I've seen real flight ops on my carrier Independence CV-62. I was an OS (Operations Specialist) Radar Tracking, Navigation working with the Air Controllers in CIC. I was there in the mid 1980's. We had the A-7, A-6, F-14, we had a few Vigilantes, Cod, S-3 and E2C and I think on a later deployment, we had the first Hornets. My favorite was the Intruder
For me this feels like a historic and nostalgic ceremony on your channel... I love your guys work, keep it up❤💙💛 Greetings from Germany
You forgot the JF-17, you could have replaced one of the Flankers with that
everyone sleeps on the hornet
still love the F/A-18. Beautiful multi-role aircraft..
Harrier: Man, this is taking forever!
A-10: Hold my beer.
Do the climb to 98 000 feet. That's Operation Top Flight. Dec. 6 1959 in an F-4.
The F-4 holds a lot of records. Including the top supplier of damaged MiG parts.
Excellent.
Just remember that MiG-21 is the top supplier of damaged f-4 parts
💤💤💤💤😴😴😴
Distributor
It's a little catchier to think of them scattering to the ground
What a trip! I new that this was CGI but I'm a sucker for the F4 Phantom. I was not disappointed! Looks fun!
Good effort, Harrier. You tried.
That was really fun to watch haha, nice! Excessive sonic booms xD
Watching these guys fly so uncoordinatedly makes me feel good about my flying
I love how the Jf-17 doesn’t even show up.
That "cápeti" livery on the mig-21
You should add the English Electric Lightning . Some of the pilots that flew it called it the frightning .
Have you folks tried flying line abreast at 0.9M and then starting the race? My coworker flew with VX-9 for a while and that's how they did their drag races. I wonder if that would change your results.
More of that please, more of that. Love the tarmac roar. Fawesome.
That... Was FUN...
Not sure how accurate, but well done. TY
J79-GE-17 turbojet engines with 11,870 lb s.t. (17,900 lb s.t. w/ab)
what's kinda crazy is how variable the sizes are for theses jets. Some are massive and some seem downright tiny.
to see you with TuAF Camo is awesome
TurAF *
We also need the English electric lightning in this race
Seeing the different aircraft in the air at the same time reminds me of the
80s Japanese OVA Area 88
So glad i found this.
That need a redo.
Put the carriers farther out. 75% of the jets havn't come close to getting up to speed
Missing the English Electric Lightning ⚡️. One of the fastest hot rods ever built
True story: In 1983 I participated in an impromptu "drag race" with two Air National Guard F-4's taking off in formation. We were on a parallel runway in central Florida (can't remember base name) in a Navy P-3C Orion (VP-30). Pilots and ATC coordinated, we went at exactly same time. The P-3 leapt off the line with instant power from the turbo-props. We were midway down the runway 100 ft. off the deck already with gear up, and were still ahead of the F-4's. Within about 300 ft., they had passed us on the ground still not having rotated yet. By the end of the runway, they were already climbing at about 30 degrees, maybe 2000 ft. altitude and 8000 ft. ahead of us, and had already gone back to full military. We were all laughing on the P-3 and were quite proud our ourselves that we were winning for a very short while. Made for a funny story when we got back to NAS Jax.
The F-14 has one of the best thrust to weight ratio's and is one of the fastest fighter's ever made. It a makes no sense it was struggling to get past 700 knots.
It took off at 68° which was strange
Ground roll is friction
Needs more speed to lift off and gear is drag once in the air after a longer take off roll
Didn't show fuel state, so I'm not sure if they were all at bingo, but also with those big planes, the faster they go-the faster they want to go.
Put them over 20,000 starting at 200 Kts. And you'll probably have a whole different array
The f15-16s should be able to AB straight up to altitude. I've seen them do it in real life at PDX.
Pang base
I wonder what this'd be like with a BAC Lightning in :)
The lightning was very fast for its time, but really any more modern fighter would mop the floor with it
When it came along, the F4 took both the time to climb and max speed records from the Lightning.
Now we need to see this F-4E with raptor engines!
Would love to see a British Electric Lightning in this race.
The F4E didn't have enough smoke.... when in afterburner... because the F4B/C/D were definitely smokies when in full AB.
I'll have to check that out because an old training video had instructors telling them to engage burner when sneaking
Then berating them because nobody listened and the instructors could find them from the smoke.
Though the F-4M/I spey powered phantom had a lower top speed of had a much better acceleration. I'd like to see that dared
That starting pan-out makes them looks hilariously slow. Like every fighter yet takes 3 minutes to get barely moving after putting burners on the ground :D
For a low level drag race like this i'd include the Tornado GR4 or F3 & for acceleration the EE Lightning F.6 in addition to the F104 Starfighter.
That Phantom needs to be dumping a big black cloud of smoke to be legit.
That looked fun, now run it again but activate the phalanx on the carriers!
Waiting for the Eurofighter and we dont talk longer about the F16 :)
Time for climbing vertical in the Eurofighter to 20.000 feet "YES!" :D
Always a good morning with GR uploads. o7 pilots.
I find very offensive not using the A-10C. 🤣🤣
It'd be cool to see "what could have been," the PW1120 powered F-4E proposed in the 80's by the IAI. While not at the ridiculous 1:1.24, a respectable 1:1.04 TWR with supercruise would make for a fun drag race.
👻 Phantom phor life 🤘
It would be something to see for real
Nice touch with the sonic booms for everything BUT the harrier 😂😂🙂
This... but with bombers.
Very cool !!!
It's lights out and away we go!
Wait..
I heard somewhere that they don't know IRL the actual top speed of the F4 because it would actually run out of fuel on full afterburner before it stops accelerating. Correct me if I had been told some BS
I think you missed the JF17 if i'm not mistaken. But nice comparison. Still i thought the F4-E would perform better, it just looks it would go faster. Actually a surprise it only beats the F-5E and F1.
2:27 that Hornet is off 😂😂😂😂
No English Electric Lightning? That would smash the lot!
That initial _painfully slow_ crossing of the Start line caused a giggle from me! 😅
Now I wondering what would be the fastest around the Top Gear track?
Can't leave the airfield and must go over the circuit. 🤔👍
That poor Harrier....I could push a wheel barrow faster than that thing hahaha. Wildly entertaining video gents!!
This is what the viewers want
that was great
You got the sr71 in the candidate pool... not a fighter but an experiment can be done. 😂
Hi Cap, probably somebody else beat me to the punch or you were planning on doing it anyway, but could you do a 300-600 acceleration test and a max sustained turn speed for the F-4E as well as the Mirage F1? Thank you in advance and love your work!
OK
Should allow guns and give a bit of risk to the leaders
We're probably gonna need to see everyone race wearing an F4 Phantom at some point... just to see the correct climb profile.
They did try but the resources to spawn multiple f4s killed the server 🙈
@@Wilko601st I can understand it, that many Phantoms will kill everything.
English Electric Lightning appears to be missing
What I get from these results is that JATO assist is still needed. Maybe a sled would work fine.
Hungarian livery on the MiG-21Bisz :-) Nice! (It's a famous livery, it was part of a demo team at the beginning of the '90s, it's nickname was "Cápeti", a popular cartoon character)
Kind of a race to see who could get off the ground first, passing a start line while already gear up could be more telling imo
I do believe the F-15 does in fact hold the climb record to 20,000ft from brake. Feel free to fact me on that one.
Like to see an English Electric Lightning do the climb!
Nagyon tetszik a mig-21 festése "Cápeti"
I love this
Do a zoom climb instead and see who can reach the highest altitude
Heaviest planes would have an advantage
Not a proper contest without the English Electric Lightening.
After years of working in the hornet, didnt think it would fet the jump or be competitive.
-Havik
I really thought the Phantom would be faster.
In the real world an F-16C can do an unrestricted vertical climb to 15,000 feet in about 20 seconds and can make 20,000 in a few more seconds. It'd be fun to redo the time to climb challenge, flying ONLY those models that have a thrust to weight ratio of 1.0 or greater, flying pure vertical climb profiles.
To be relevant this dragrace needs to be at least 50 miles.
Changing altitude would be fun as well
F-4 Phantom was the fastest military fighter for a very long time
It's hard to believe the hornet came in 3rd!
