To everybody that replied, I want to clarify a few things: 1. I'm a Democrat. Doesn't mean I agree with everything my party says. This is the first time that I can actually agree with Hawley on something since I cannot stand many of these policies. However, I support factual information and don't just "agree/disagree" because of a political party. If someone says something I agree with, I will support them FOR THAT CLAIM (not necessarily as an individual in entirety). 2. I am pro-choice, which means that I believe women should have a choice as to whether they want to get an abortion or not. I was pissed with the SCOTUS when they announced the overturning of Roe (though tbf, why would the Constitution cover an abortion anyway? I believe it should be part of legislation, not in the Constitution). This exchange does not refer to the right to have an abortion, but instead describes LGBTQ+-related extents to pregnancy. I fervently believe that if a woman desired an abortion, she should have the right to have one. If they do not want one, fine. This brings me to my third point... 3. I am in no way anti-LGBTQ+. If people want to believe/choose the individual they want to be, fine. However, biological men cannot get pregnant, which is what I think Senator Hawley was referring to. Maybe it's because I'm passionate in the STEM field, but I prefer to refer to living species as male or female when applicable, which is wholly determined by sexual characteristics (genitals, chromosomes, etc.). I'm not trying to hurt the LGBTQ+-community in any way, but when it comes to biological sex, it is necessary to make the anatomical distinction between male versus female. Gender and sex are not the same word. It is unfair to mix people of biological SEXES in sports (the Lia Thomas incident, for example). 4. Just want to address this, but just because this professor said what she said does not mean all Democrats believe in what she said. I don't. I also don't see how Sen. Hawley was being "transphobic" and how he said that "men cannot get pregnant" is supporting her claim. It's true. Biological men cannot get pregnant. Again, GENDER and SEX are completely different, and it is important to acknowledge and appreciate human anatomy. Beliefs are not the same as scientific facts. To everybody that replied, I want to clarify a few things:
1. I'm a Democrat. Doesn't mean I agree with everything my party says. This is the first time that I can actually agree with Hawley on something since I cannot stand many of these policies. However, I support factual information and don't just "agree/disagree" because of a political party. If someone says something I agree with, I will support them FOR THAT CLAIM (not necessarily as an individual in entirety).
2. I am pro-choice, which means that I believe women should have a choice as to whether they want to get an abortion or not. I was pissed with the SCOTUS when they announced the overturning of Roe (though tbf, why would the Constitution cover an abortion anyway? I believe it should be part of legislation, not in the Constitution). This exchange does not refer to the right to have an abortion, but instead describes LGBTQ+-related extents to pregnancy. I fervently believe that if a woman desired an abortion, she should have the right to have one. If they do not want one, fine. This brings me to my third point...
3. I am in no way anti-LGBTQ+. If people want to believe/choose the individual they want to be, fine. However, biological men cannot get pregnant, which is what I think Senator Hawley was referring to. Maybe it's because I'm passionate in the STEM field, but I prefer to refer to living species as male or female when applicable, which is wholly determined by sexual characteristics (genitals, chromosomes, etc.). I'm not trying to hurt the LGBTQ+-community in any way, but when it comes to biological sex, it is necessary to make the anatomical distinction between male versus female. Gender and sex are not the same word. It is unfair to mix people of biological SEXES in sports (the Lia Thomas incident, for example).
4. Just want to address this, but just because this professor said what she said does not mean all Democrats believe in what she said. I don't. I also don't see how Sen. Hawley was being "transphobic" and how he said that "men cannot get pregnant" is supporting her claim. It's true. Biological men cannot get pregnant. Again, GENDER and SEX are completely different, and it is important to acknowledge and appreciate human anatomy. Beliefs are not the same as scientific facts. I'm a Democrat with some mixed beliefs, some even progressive, and find this to be ridiculous. Democrats need to better their agenda.
