@lexfridman - Thank you for your podcast. I didn’t even need to watch this one because I know the story and don’t need to hear Ackman lie. I think that Bill Ackman is a complete dirtbag and con artist. I despise people like him. All he did was sell short on Herbalife, then artificially influenced the market to get the stock price to drop. Thank God Carl Icahn was there to take the opposite position and scalp Ackman for $1B. Ackman’s claims against Herbalife were all investigated by the FTC and SEC, but no wrongdoing by the Herbalife business was found and there’s no enforcement actions taken against Herbalife. I don’t believe Ackman is a true billionaire through honest hard work. From all appearances, Ackman tried to disparage this company so he could gain a massive profit. What is so dirty about Ackman is that he has made his money off the backs of retail investors who do not have access to manage a hedge fund and influence the market. Ackman can direct those managers to do his bidding and bilk the retail investors out of their hard-earned money, which destroys their American dream. Carl Icahn’s investment in Herbalife drew the line in the sand against Ackman, who doesn’t appear to have any morals or integrity. Ackman looked to destroy the lives of the Herbalife employees and customers for his own greed.

Please don't; Lex didn't push back against Ackman's narrative once... it was 3.5 hours of PR (he becomes vague other than insisting he personally didn't make the plagiarism allegations against Gay: Christopher Rufo did. Does Ackman fund Rufo's foundation?). I totally believe the anonymous Jamaican cab driver story is representative; how about talking to pharmaceutical patients who were price-gouged by Valeant during the Ackman time? Only interview financial figures who can be objective: Buffett, Philip Pilkington. Although, I'd love to see Yanis Varoufakis go 15 rounds with Ackman.
He's also a smart person. It's all well to listen but you also need to ask the right questions and/or know how to respond or be the type of person with the type of perspective that responds in a way that furthers the conversation
Home run Lex! As a longtime subscriber it’s been an absolute pleasure watching the platform growth. And a big thank you to Mr. Ackman. Incredible episode.
I actually went to the Dartmouth discussion after the attack on October 7th. I was extremely impressed by the panel. Given the circumstances, the room was full of tension, mixed emotions and rage. The room was extremely diverse. Many Israelis, Muslims and curious students. Overall, the professors on the panel did an incredible job and was happy to be a Dartmouth student that day. Looking back I am surprised to see how few institutions actually had an open discussion about the situation in Gaza/Isreal.
I really appreciate the dedication in each video you post. It is amazing to understand the pressures he had to go through while at the bottom of his career while showing greatness and betting on himself to be back again. Thanks for the interview Lex, great style really.
I think it is intresting how he says activist investors are almost always good and have the best interest of the company but then he says his own company had an activist investor which pushed him towards his lowest point and resulted in him closing his original fund
Love to listen to Lex Friedman> After a busy stressful day working, it is good to hear the calm, measured cadence of his voice, and the wisdom of his thoughts
Sounds like you were dumb enough to listen instead of making your own decision. I guess all those people that read research reports (buy and sell) are all idiots for following the advice. Bottom line… like everyone else he gave his view… you just blame him for what followed.
LOL it was Covid that tanked the market. He is not that influential he can wreck the entire global market. Then FED stepped in ALL IN and that was always what needed to happen to save market.
Thank you Mr Ackman for being brave and taking on the biggest problem and the biggest threat to our country - the DEI. We are counting on you to keep up on it. There is very little hope left with it. The problem is much more widespread than anybody realizes. Really hope it’s not too late.
@The_business_Podcast it stands for "diversity, equity, and inclusion." In reality, it is race Marxism, essentially a fusion of all of the worst ideologies of the 20th century (nazism/Stalinism). It has been embraced and propagated by academia, and now most large corporations are pushing this poison.
"How can you explore how to think when you're only shared a certain point of view?" This interview was by far one of the best interviews I have ever watched. So much information, so much vision. We should protect those two guys at all costs.
Fascinating interview--a total example of an individual who believed he was about personal gain and was truly asleep to all that has been going on for decades without taking the time to question huge subjects. To say he is late to the party is obvious. He still has a great deal of introspection to achieve. I am glad for him that his journey is finally moving to a real human direction.
And Warren brags about paying 0.1% of his wealth in taxes, real stand up guy for our society. Socialism is democracy in OUR economy. We decide together ❤️

Not saying that I am correct, but it sure is convenient how all these Billionaires end up having “financial issues” right when they are going through a divorce. 😂
Exactly!! Remember when Bill Ackman went on CNBC and screamed at the financial world for 23 minutes talking about the collapse of the world due to COVID??? AT THE SAME TIME he was shorting stocks and the market, MAKING BILLIONS!! Then when he knew the market was bottoming, he flipped his trading position and went long on the market when he knew the fed was going to inject massive stimulus. But needless to say, our memories are too too short. But let’s dig further on Bill Ackman! He’s the same douche bag who had to go after the Harvard President for plagiarizing her dissertation (I get and agree on the consequences for her). But when Bill Ackman’s wife admits to her own plagiarizing of her dissertation, he like any good scumbag, justifies it away and goes after Business Insider for horrible reporting, and then like the world class scumbag that he is, he cheers on people losing their job. I get the news industry isn’t trustworthy or even really valuable like they once were, but to cheer people losing their jobs is the depths humanity.
You're right. The Beatles and the Stones wish they had the talent to have written a masterpiece like "Where The Streets Have No Name" or "With or Without You" instead of singing nursery rhymes about yellow submarines.
Been listening to Bill Ackman talk for 25 minutes and haven't heard anything of substance... would rather listen to Lex talk for 25 minutes by himself. Just my personal opinion.
Great conversation. Really enjoyed it. Absolute joy. Thank to Bill to bring me back faith in humanity and worlds common sense. I finally understood that I like sensitive people.
You blocked me on Twitter but apparently RUclips forces you down my throat anyway. Welcome to the most algorithmically driven content creator of all time.
I find it so interesting that JP Morgan was described as a “handshake bank,” 😂, willing to lend $300mm to someone who maybe should have been classified as bankrupt or at least headed that way… Just goes to show you that some folks can’t fail- it’s 100% all about who you know…
Everything is about who you know. Numbers matter sometimes but the human resource is what ultimately matters. It's a great disservice that the opposite is emphasized so heavily in much of university and work life.
2:02:00 "Gaza could have been a tourist destination" Gaza is functionally a concentration camp populated by minors and descendants of refugees forcefully displaced by Israeli militias. These people live in an incredibly densely populated arid territory and are constantly bombed, spied on, isolated from trade, blockaded from basic neccesities etc. Yea, a recipe for a tourist destination tion indeed. More ignorant words have rarely been spoken. This guy is indoctrinated by Israeli propaganda and ignores the last 120 years of incredibly well documented history
I think Lex let Bill Ackman off the hook on the question of free speech. Bill Ackman advocated for not hiring Harvard students who did not share his same view. This is the opposite of free speech. Bill certainly some good points but if Lex wanted to be an objective interviewer than he should have pressed him more on this when asking him about using his influence to get Harvard to change.
I don't know who this ackman guy is but, not hiring harvard students who don't share his same view has nothing to do with free speech, this is about putting together a watch with cooperative cogs. Harvard is disliked not for its position, but the fact that it overall is an extreme position. Same can be said for the other side. As much as i hate to do it, we would all do better if more of us were more cooperative.
I like Ackman and find him interesting but one thing I will not agree with is his fondness for Hunter Harrison. Harrison, ruined the railroad with the introduction of PSR “Precision Railroad Scheduling”. His decisions put the lives of many railroad employees in danger by turning a blind eye to safety all in an effort to appease the shareholders with a focus on short term gain versus long term. That is a predatory corporate approach. Essentially, firms like Ackman’s are the ones behind this aggressive push for PSR and hunter worked for them, not for the railroad and its employees.
So basically whoever doesn't agree with akman is wrong and it shouldn't be that way. I don't necessarily disagree with the stuff he said but certainly can see the hypocrisy, tribalism and bias in his views. He probably thinks he is a nice guy but there is definitely an argument that he is not. Then feeding conspiracy theories that s some crazy stuff
What a creature!!! He is calling for freedom of speech and then he criticizes those who do not share the same opinion with him about the attacks....Double standards!! He felt pity for the innocent who died back in October, why he doesn't feel the same about the 20,000+ innocents who died in Gaza thereafter. He is biased and proud to show it. Students in universities should be allowed to share their opinion whether or not extremist and racist people like it or not.
I am a home-grown investor with 10 years experience that is making money on regular basis and started to live from it and I can say that this is probably top3 most valuable podcasts about investing I ever seen and I seen hundreds if not thousands. So if you are starting investor, watch closely you won't regret. Everyone: "Bill what you do - you don't anything about distressed investing and bankruptcy investing" Bill Ackman: "But I can read - and I learned" The amount of this type simple wisdoms in this video is insane.

Love to listen to Lex Friedman> After a busy stressful day working, it is good to hear the calm, measured cadence of his voice, and the wisdom of his thoughts
Really enjoyed this conversation with Bill. We need more long-form interviews with such great investors !!
Did you ask him about tanking the market early 2020 with his ‘emotional’ fear mongering CNBC phone call, cashing out billions in his short position?
Bill Ackman didn't tank the market. Everyone sold on the lockdown plans.
why are you exposing his only strategy ?for all situations ?
Sounds like you were dumb enough to listen instead of making your own decision.
I guess all those people that read research reports (buy and sell) are all idiots for following the advice.
Bottom line… like everyone else he gave his view… you just blame him for what followed.
LOL it was Covid that tanked the market. He is not that influential he can wreck the entire global market. Then FED stepped in ALL IN and that was always what needed to happen to save market.
Why would Lex actually ask a tough question that gets at his guests controversies?
Did you see his Tucker Carlson interview? Pure unhinged insanity.
If Jeff Bezos had hair
Awesome! Great guest. Can’t wait to listen to this. :)
If you are a white supremacist 🤦🏻♂️
@@Asdfgfdmn I’m pretty sure your mother said it.
This is a great podcast! Enjoy every minute of the conversation! Thank you Lex and Bill for doing this!
Thank you Bill Ackman for giving knowledgeable lessons. Also really appreciate Lex for what he contributing
Thank you Mr Ackman for being brave and taking on the biggest problem and the biggest threat to our country - the DEI. We are counting on you to keep up on it. There is very little hope left with it. The problem is much more widespread than anybody realizes. Really hope it’s not too late.
What is DEI
@The_business_Podcast it stands for "diversity, equity, and inclusion." In reality, it is race Marxism, essentially a fusion of all of the worst ideologies of the 20th century (nazism/Stalinism). It has been embraced and propagated by academia, and now most large corporations are pushing this poison.
Too late?
DEI is a cancer!
DEI is a cancer
Ask him about valeant and how it nearly bankrupted hospitals
When u bring Grigori Perelman?
wow, if that's an option i will host a party to watch it
Wowwww
First, he needs to return to our dimensions.
Not happening, unfortunately. Would love to listen to him though.
"How can you explore how to think when you're only shared a certain point of view?"
This interview was by far one of the best interviews I have ever watched. So much information, so much vision. We should protect those two guys at all costs.
Bill is awesome. Thanks, Lex for your great podcasts. Keep them coming! We need more folks like Bill out there.
Just the right person to ask about a Jewish/ Muslim conflict
Bill looks and sounds like Sam Harris had a baby with Jeff bezos 😂
Soon as lex uploads I’m here within 2 seconds
Fascinating interview--a total example of an individual who believed he was about personal gain and was truly asleep to all that has been going on for decades without taking the time to question huge subjects. To say he is late to the party is obvious. He still has a great deal of introspection to achieve. I am glad for him that his journey is finally moving to a real human direction.
Man, Bill went thru so much and rose up stronger than ever. Much respect ✊
The opening is just a literal copy of a Warren Buffet talk on investing.
He's a plagiarist like his wife Neri Oxman.
And Warren brags about paying 0.1% of his wealth in taxes, real stand up guy for our society. Socialism is democracy in OUR economy. We decide together ❤️
@@joshuagharis9017 Socialism is a guise of a democratic economy which keeps the people equally poor and controlled as pawns by the political elite, but nice try
@@joshuagharis9017buffet complains about paying less tax than his secretary and has publically stated he thinks he should pay more.. lol however what he is trying to say is much different than you are. The "Socialism" you desire is the END of our economy..
@@joshuagharis9017Less of a brag and more of a sarcastic humor but okay. It is funny, our tax code is a joke.
When can we expect a Claudine Gay episode?
😂
Longest chipotle ad I’ve ever seen…
They had the biggest stock split
50-1
I've done well with it. I also eat there regularly. Making $
I started listening to your podcast back in 2018, its so cool to see how far you've gone with it. You get awesome guests and the style and flow of the podcast is always interesting. Its one of my go to listens. cheers
Amzing conversation. Both Bill and Lex are in shape, clearly.
Not saying that I am correct, but it sure is convenient how all these Billionaires end up having “financial issues” right when they are going through a divorce. 😂
Our favourite jewish podcast!
CRINGE
If Bill shaved his head, wouldn't he look a lot like Jeff Bezos?
Man I have been waiting for this for a long time. I don't agree with a lot of what Bill says but he is one of my heroes.
Thank you for doing what you do. Its amazing to have access to such great minds through these podcasts.
He forgot about the part when he does the pump and dump
Oops
Is that what Brad Pitt did with hus GF?
U2 is not in same league as The Beatles or the Rolling Stones
So true! Ditto Elvis...
One notch below
The way he spoke about owning music made me feel sick.
You're right. The Beatles and the Stones wish they had the talent to have written a masterpiece like "Where The Streets Have No Name" or "With or Without You" instead of singing nursery rhymes about yellow submarines.
Yes of course we all can agree that yellow submarine was the best thing Beatles ever did.
Been listening to Bill Ackman talk for 25 minutes and haven't heard anything of substance... would rather listen to Lex talk for 25 minutes by himself. Just my personal opinion.
great episode, thank you @lexfridman for having Bill on the show!
I find it so interesting that JP Morgan was described as a “handshake bank,” 😂, willing to lend $300mm to someone who maybe should have been classified as bankrupt or at least headed that way…
Just goes to show you that some folks can’t fail- it’s 100% all about who you know…
Everything is about who you know. Numbers matter sometimes but the human resource is what ultimately matters. It's a great disservice that the opposite is emphasized so heavily in much of university and work life.

"Gaza could have been a tourist destination"
Gaza is functionally a concentration camp populated by minors and descendants of refugees forcefully displaced by Israeli militias.
That's the comment of a indoctrinated Palestinian propaganda guy. Guess you're no best than him at this. At least he did something with his life.
Absolutely correct. Important point.
Key words: "could have been"
Bill is correct on Gaza, HMas, terrorism, and that which COULD have been
Beautiful podcast, credits to Lex, he is incredibly good listener.
Great job Bill. Class act. Thank you again Lex, for your tremendous skill in developing an interesting conversation.
Ken Griffin next, please
The length they go to justify Neri Oxman's plagiarism is kind of funny
I could’ve listened to three more hours. Thank you for sharing this.
This podcast is top tier. I love bill Ackman's charisma
Freedom of speech isn’t the same as lodging attacks, making threats, creating disturbances or damaging property.
I am a home-grown investor with 10 years experience that is making money on regular basis and started to live from it and I can say that this is probably top3 most valuable podcasts about investing I ever seen and I seen hundreds if not thousands.
So if you are starting investor, watch closely you won't regret.
Everyone: "Bill what you do - you don't anything about distressed investing and bankruptcy investing"
Bill Ackman: "But I can read - and I learned"
The amount of this type simple wisdoms in this video is insane.
