    Kaladin isn’t going to die. I feel more strongly about that than any other thing in the book. Thematically, I just don’t see how he can die. Brandon has spent 4 books getting Kaladin to overcome his depression, to find something to live for, to not carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. Kaladin having to sacrifice himself to save the world completely goes against that storyline.

      Yeah, he spent all this time jumping in front of bullets to save people, and beating himself up when he survives and they die. It would be a terrible conclusion to his arc of learning to live with himself, only to jump in front of a bullet, but this time it works and he dies.

    I am very confident that Vasher won't die here. Because till now while he's been reference heavy it'd be a massive jump for Sanderson to actually resolve a major plot point via something completely described in another book. Vasher feels more endgame.

  • @brintonk7

    This was a fun video! Love me some Stormlight 5 predictions.
    First off, I’m in the camp that thinks “the entire thing happens during the ten days building up to the Contest of Champions.” I’ve just had that feeling ever since reading RoW when the ten days were called “the final ten days” (i.e. “The Musings of El). When you’ve got Oathgates and Windrunners who can fly about the map, I think travel times will be less of an issue than one might think.
    Regarding the Gavinor theory, I’ve had this longstanding guttural dislike for the theory, but I’ve seen enough evidence that I’ve had to grudgingly acknowledge that it is a real possibility for Stormlight 5.
    Renarin forcing Odium to break the contract is a really, really interesting thought, because most of the time fans talk about how Odium might get Dalinar to break his end of the contract. I do think there are elements of the contract that both sides can exploit. For example, in the event that Dalinar wins the Contest, Odium is to return Alethkar. But what if Venli, the Listeners and their chasmfiends invade Alethkar and turn it into homeland for Singers free of Odium’s influence? Then Odium won’t be able to return Alethkar because he no longer has Alethkar.
    That said, my prediction for Dalinar is that he either becomes a fused (in the event he loses the Contest) or a herald (in the event he wins). This seems to be foreshadowed by his Third Ideal which says, “If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” The fall could refer to death and the rise to resurrection, the words “each time” suggesting a cycle of multiple deaths and resurrections. Both heralds and fused undergo cycles of deaths and resurrections.
    I think Kaladin’s purpose in Shinovar will be to heal Ishar as opposed to trying to “kill or incapacitate” him, as I think there will need to be a new Oathpact, but perhaps with a twist. The Everstorm may provide the fused with too ready a form of access to Roshar to ever be sealed back to Braize, but a new Oathpact may seal them to the Rosharan system, thwarting Odium’s ambitions to send agents to the rest of the Cosmere.
    I hope you are wrong about all the honorspren dying because man, that would be devastating. But we did just get antiinvestiture and I do expect it to be used to devastating effect. You could be right and I’m not ready for it.
    I don’t think Kaladin will die. Just doesn’t feel right for his character arc which has been about putting “life before death.”
    Totally agree with you about Shallan’s mom, that “Nightblood is going to be hungry,” that we’ll see other honorblades used, Renarin and Rlain kissing and there being a process for restoring deadeye spren. And that was a really interesting thought about Vasher.

      @@austinp9983 It's not a ridiculous prediction at all, but it doesn't seem to finish a journey for a Windrunner. Their first unique ideal is about protecting others. Then about protecting even people they dislike. They about not hating themselves if they can't save others. There is no revelatory throughline from that to sacrificing yourself.
      The only 5th ideal we know is the Skybreakers becoming the law, that is moving beyond their old limits and learning to trust their own judgements over another's. A similar reversal feels to me both more thematically appropriate, and more fitting for Kal's character. So something like "I will let people save me" or the ilk would fit better IMO.

    If Baby Champion is a thing it'd require the rules to be ignored (willing participant) and a death rattle to be wrong (suckling child is a Baby, not a 6 year old) to be right...if it's a thing I'll stop reading Sanderson books altogether and I really really really love and get a lot of meaning from Sanderson.

    The “suckling child” death rattle I argue can apply to both adolin and Gavinor, since gavinor isn’t really a “suckling child” anymore and is much older. Furthermore, so many of adolin main scenes are described with intense emotion or passion, often commenting that he puts little thought into his actions. AND we’ve been told repeatedly that he’s “not better than his father” which I feel is setting up that inevitable clash

    So my thoughts:
    Kaladin's fifth ideal would be, I think, about realizing people should not need his protection. It is the final step of the ideas if you think about it. The first was to protect those who need it, then protect without prejudice, followed by realizing he can't protect everyone. So the final step should be realizing he shouldn't be the one to defend everyone.
    I think Dalinar could potentially ask someone else to be a champion. It is true that he said he intends to be his own champion, but a lot can happen in 10 days. I think that the possibility is there because part of being a leader, which is what Dalinar's arc partially is, involves not taking every responsibility. Sometimes it is okay to acknowledge some things are better done by the authority of others. It is an issue he had was Amaram and Elokar, saying he gives them power but ultimately ignores it. So I could see him asking someone else to be his champion, maybe Szeth?
    I also don't think that freeing Ba-Ado-Mishram would solve the problems of the deadeyes, like was said in the video.
    I am curious mainly Cultivation as essentially she was the one influencing things from the shadows. Dalinar didn't serve Odium thanks to her intervention and at the same time, Taravangian ascended to Odium because of her. Literally the main opposing forces are what they are because of her. But why did she do all that? What is her intent? She also created Lift's unique edgedancer version. Why??
    I also really really hope Shallan meets Kelsier. He is nothing like Mraize after all, from what we see in Lost Metal. I am curious if the two would talk, will he mentioned he knew a girl who was assertive like her? One he perhaps was close to? (Vin)
    And lastly, how would Szeth cleanse the shin? Would he have to fight his family? Would Nightblood goat him to a rampage in Shinovar? Who would he think is evil among the shin?

    Contests of champions will still happen, Gavinor will still be odiums champion. But, Dalinar will lose and turn fused. In order to stop odium from getting access to the stormfather in the process , the stormfather will be deadeyed. Maya will become the first fully undeadeyed spren. deadeye stormfather will stop producing stormlight in highstorms, that leaves the coalition forces crippled for the most part. Kaladin will be giving therapy to Szeth in shinovar. Chana Davar, definitively. Then Odium brings in the rest of the everstorm and it hovers over the entire continent, and doesn't disappear. Renarin and rlain is confirmed I think. Kaladin will definitely swear the 5th ideal, death is a possibility. I don't think than anyone will ascend yet. Taln will be healed somehow, possibly kaladin therapy. BAM left odiums side before the false desolation when they got an old magic direct from cultivation. The honor spren death is on the table, but then again, we have only seen one radiant order at all in the future because we have only seen one radiant in the future. I think that Adolin will become a psuedo edgedancer and renarin will take up leadership of bridge 4 and the rest of the Kholin forces. It is unlikely that Thaidakar will show up directly because he still cannot get offworld up to 6 years later I think.
    (blurb kinda disquialied or at least threw into doubt the baby champion theory)

    Why is no one considering that the Contest of Champions could end in a tie? It's the only outcome for which there are literally no clauses.
    I understand why people think Kaladin will die but like. Cmon ya'll. His entire character arc is literally to persevere and keep living and protecting. You think Brandon's gonna do all that character development and then make DYING the answer? Come on.
    I don't like the Gavinor/Adolin champion theories. They're just not really interesting, and I really don't think Adolin is that susceptible to Odium anyway.
    Renarin outsmarting Odium into making himself vulnerable is a really cool idea!
    I really REALLY hope you're wrong about the Honospren mass death. We've already had one in the Recreance, that's ENOUGH ;_;
    I absolutely agree about the deadeyes, and if Adolin is alive to see it he's gonna be the first to make it happen.
    Your idea about Vasher completing his purpose on Roshar is really interesting and kind of a terrifying look on Endowment.

    • @TheCosmerenaut
      @TheCosmerenaut  29 дней назад

      Brandon has specifically said that Vasher hasn't had a chance to do what he was Returned to do, so it has to be something big!

    My personal theory is that the Shards of Odium and Honor; if combined; would become either the Shard of Justice or the Shard of Revenge/Vengeance. Like Harmony/Discord it would depend on the Vessels attunement to one over the other. I don’t think it would happen now but later maybe

    • @brett_zesty
      @brett_zesty Месяц назад +1

      They would literally be War. Stormlight+Voidlight = Warlight. I think, save for the vessel altering the Intent, the two shards naturally become War.

    • @TheCosmerenaut
      @TheCosmerenaut  29 дней назад

      The holder may try to shift the Intent, but given that we've seen warlight already it would make sense if that was the inherent combination.
      Though Honor and Cultivation don't create towers, so there's definitely wiggle room.

      @@TheCosmerenaut Yeah I always thought the name War light was just a man (parshendi) given name. So it does not necessarily have to mean War would be the combination of the Shards themselves.
      Also how is War an aspect of a person/god? Like yeah you can have conflict within yourself but those concepts are not nearly the same. And the Shard of Turmoil would be just kinda mid

    If we are setting bets for characters most likely to die in WaT, for me it's:
    1. Adolin
    2. Syl
    3. Moash
    4. Someone from Bridge 4 we adore
    5. Stormfather
    HUGE DROP OFF
    I think Dalinar loses the duel of the fates and becomes a Fused, and Kaladin is sidelined from the story another way, but I don't think either die in a traditional sense. Dalinar as a Fused and Kaladin ascending in some way seem more likely than dead (and I think Kal retiring to full time therapist for all of Roshar once his spren seems like a likely outcome
