My first keyboard EVER! I wrote a ton of songs and saved them to Roland Quick Disks using a Yamaha MIDI Data Filer. I don't know where I can get a machine to read those anymore. But I'm sure the MIDI data for the songs is just terrible now. ;-) But your system recorded the M1 in a truly rich way. I'll have to explore it again. The best part about the M1 is that with that one keyboard my band in 1992 won some kind of contest and got sent to compete in central Canada and then Tokyo, Japan. Great memories. I still have my board for posterity. My favourite I41 patch song is EMF's You're Unbelievable. My favourite patch overall is I36 Synth Bass 1.
Great demo Woody! Funny though... Black Box when they performed Ride On Time on TOTP, they used a Yamaha DX7 and a Roland D-50.... back in a time when miming was a thing eh? Ha! Keep up the great work Sir and if you ever get your hands on an Alesis Fusion 6 or 8HD.... you will love it! I love mine.
thank god, that's what i was looking for... i was looking for "that 80s super bright digital piano" but all my google search only give stuff like the dx7. not what i was looking for
You picked some pretty obscure songs from the 90’s to showcase the M1. When it came out in 88 it was on just about everything that was a pop hit. Couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing it. Awesome board, wish I still had mine. My only complaint was how limited the onboard sequencer was.
Always enjoy your nostalgic riggs. I have a cheap Korg K61s (a circa 2006 USB MIDI keyboard controller that has built-in preset sounds) and I think the presets come from the M1. Maybe I should tear it down for you.
I was in high school in the 90's. I was into alto stuff then, sonic youth, grunge etc. I despised 90's house and pop (well on the outside, i was into synths long from teens), an image thing then. I am now in my 40's and dj quite a bit. I spin so many 90's (with m1, d50, dx7 magic). It might be cheesy, but it gets the party going. Especially when age group is very diverse. Love the snap lead.
the music that made me want to pursue music seriously was pop-punk and alt rock when i was 11 or 12 (this was in 2008). I was purely rock up until the spring/summer of 8th grade when i discovered Benny Benassi and Daft Punk. My entire 4 years of high school were spent learning music production and a bit of DJing as well. Now at 24, i'm into it all and loving it lol funny how that works!
LOL! That's awesome, Woody! I don't know if it's your thing, but I'd bet that a bunch of cover bands in your area would die for you to join their band!
@@WoodyPianoShack Now that's surprising to me! You have access to ALL the great, signature synths and sounds AND the chops to play a ton of popular songs. You can cover so much musical genre ground! Well, maybe when we're all beyond COVID-19 your e-mail account will be overflowing with inquiries! Happy 2022 to you and yours, Woody. Thank you for all the great, entertaining and enjoyable content.
Well done! You did it well 😍
Great demo Woody!
I love mine.
ok micky, i'll keep that in mind! thx for watching and the comment.
the stage manager had those keyboards around for bands just to perform with them..unless they brought their own stuff
What Lada Gaga did on Superbowl halftime was miming as well. Or, I call it air piano.
What a synth,Queen had used this for their last album with Freddy Innuendo.
They used it on a number of tracks on "Innuendo", namely "Innuendo", "Don't Try So Hard" and "I'm Going Slightly Mad"...
Daniel Davies yes,and on These Are The days of our lives maybe on Bijou too or it was DX7?A great synth.
The Show Must Go On uses a string patch off an M1
Show Must Go On - DX-7
@@mediaigor1 no, Syn Orch on M1
In the song “Ride on Time” (1988-1990), the Korg M1 MPC-00P programs patch “Piano 8’” as the piano sounds in sometimes in 5ths was heard.
Nice riff collection!
love this kinda video. I do just what woody is doing. fire up some you-tune fun and play along.
I play a Krone EX 76.
That's pretty darn close!! Great job!
Though I was listening to Rock and Jazz at the time, these were "good, exciting and changing times."
thank god, that's what i was looking for... i was looking for "that 80s super bright digital piano" but all my google search only give stuff like the dx7. not what i was looking for
You picked some pretty obscure songs from the 90’s to showcase the M1. When it came out in 88 it was on just about everything that was a pop hit. Couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing it. Awesome board, wish I still had mine. My only complaint was how limited the onboard sequencer was.
I would argue m1 and d50 are the most used digital synts of the 90s.
Obscure songs?! If you lived in Europe in the 90s you would not be saying that lol!
(These tunes were MASSIVE and still get played on stations and at venues)
Always enjoy your nostalgic riggs. I have a cheap Korg K61s (a circa 2006 USB MIDI keyboard controller that has built-in preset sounds) and I think the presets come from the M1. Maybe I should tear it down for you.
Great!, this video just now told me to hurry up getting reparied my Korg N364 which has these Korg m1 legend presets, thanks for the video!!
Excellent comparison - keep it up !
Now at 24, i'm into it all and loving it lol funny how that works!
this was very cool to watch!
LOL! That's awesome, Woody! I don't know if it's your thing, but I'd bet that a bunch of cover bands in your area would die for you to join their band!
...still waiting for the phone to ring!
Cheers!
The Korg M1 was on a lot of Japanese pop songs and video game soundtracks, like Virtua Fighter. It was also used in Emotions by Mariah Carey.
really great video !!
thanks yam!
I'm back to learning piano... and I need to confess... that I'm addicted to your videos.
:D
Thanks for being an inspiration
super cool !
Great man ! Love that M1
That’s it!! That’s key sounds of the 90s!!
