On GPT vs Google - I totally go to this 1st. It’s concise in answers & understanding nuanced questions. It also has a great audio interpretation and figures things out. Also it doesn’t come up w/ads and other unrelated info. GPT is hands down killing it in search right now from an application standpoint. In addition, search function is only scratching it’s most basic functions. It’s so much more than a search engine. I literally keep this bookmarked and open during work day.

Peter, you had requested a verb to use with the X platform to replace "tweet" I used AI to help with it and the X'out (pronounced Zout) is where we landed. To me it's reminiscent of the term shout so instead of shout out let's X'out out. Instead of shout about it Xout about it. Anyway I like it.😊

Please stop mentioning the movie Her. It’s a classic example of not thinking things through. An AI is incapable of jealousy or anger or anything like that because it can’t be threatened. It can only be programmed to mimic emotions

    • @Custodian123
      @Custodian123 2 месяца назад

      Well said 👏
However, let's wait for GPT5 and others. Emotions are embedded within language, in text, so maybe we might see some further emergence for emotions.
That said, does not account for too much. I can hardly start to imagine how you would separate mimicking or projecting vs genuine emerging emotions.
And even if it were "genuine", it would be a new species of emotions, because there is no chemical reactions happening. There is no adrenalin and fight or flight at all.
Safe bet is we might see something interesting at least.

Hi Pieter, though I enjoyed your guest’s feedback and comments; I found myself irritated by his twitching thumping of the desk or tabletop causing his microphone to amplify a booming sound of his thumping extremely distracting. Please ask him to include that anxiety producing twitching into his mindfulness routine for a month or more. It’s very annoying to others and too far from his awareness, ok?

Perhaps AI will help us understand that we are all god. Maybe AI can de-program us from believing in our false gods. Unfortunately, it’s all up to the individual to wake up and consumerism, technology and sheer survival is too much of a distraction for most people to look within. When speaking of predicting the future project looking glass did predict our final outcome and no matter what use case was submitted the system would ONLY always have one outcome.

The other issue with Google search, from a marketing perspective, is the AI result at the top encourages zero clicks and this is destroying SEO and organic reach, pushing everyone to paid advertising with upward pressure on prices.

There is way too much talk about business. Nothing wrong with making money. But business should only serve as a function of supporting society and culture - how we live, not what we can consume. (As you guys talked about - helping us become more civilized!) Eric Schmidt is obviously super smart, but he's a business guy, he speaks and acts like a CEO.

So many people even in the developed countries stopped learning in any appreciable way after leaving high school. They will resist retooling. I owned an assisted living business for years. I failed to get my employees to follow the video training on how to secure garbage bags into cans or not to put trash in the recycling bins. AI will disrupt jobs whole scale. Both miss that with a self-driving car, you MUST replace the human nearly 100% - replacing 95% actually makes it more dangerous due to loss of driver attention.
That is a very poor analogy for most jobs, where, if you eliminate half of what people do, one person can do the work of two.
Most jobs will be eliminated not because the whole job is done by Ai, but because fewer people are needed to do the same work.
The socioconomic adaptation to Ai job elimination will be painful and messy - a combination of mass unemployment, government interventions (maybe just enough UBI to keep people alive through the process), price reductions, the Fed panicking, shorter AND longer working hours, increased consumption, new work roles, bankruptcies, new businesses, yet more Ai job replacement, etc.

1:44:51 - "There's no question in my mind of the panspermia model being the real one because we found tardigrades can survive in space where they should ... there's *absolutely no reason* that that a life form should be able to survive in space if it originated in Earth and yet here we have them. So this it's pretty clear that life has evolved in many, many, many, many places."
Holy F, "absolutely no reason"?? On the contrary:
    - Earth's extreme environments (e.g., droughts, deep sea pressures, high-altitude ionizing radiation) might select for traits that coincidentally allow brief space survival
    - Surviving for 10 days in the hard vacuum of outer space (with high mortality following rehydration) doesn't mean they'd make it from Mars (or beyond) to Earth
    - Possible exaptation: Not every characteristic that turns out (later) to have survival benefits was actually selected for in the past
When you can catch a person in three confident but wildly wrong statements in a single podcast, you can be confident that's just the tip of the iceberg, for how much they're B.S.'ing you. There's no reason to listen to them further: It's not even "Trust but verify" by that point, the priors are rather to "Distrust, and find a more productive way to spend your time."

It's not a ludite revolt, and that is insulting. It is human beings worried about their passion and careers. And no artist has ever trained on billions of images and keeps them stored in their brains so they can make millions in profit and not compensate or protect the original creators. It's nonsensical and damaging excuses like that which makes me stop watching this channel.

Think of the utter failure of our current state of emotional intelligence embodied in psychiatry and psychology. Human beings, like Salim points out, are humans and beings. The human side learns, explores and wonders. The being side is eternal. Possibly, made of light. It embodies the great mystery of existence. Will Ai be able to grasp this notion. NOT SURE...possibly NOT. 'Being' might be NO THOUGHt...then what? HA!

Technology may have advanced enough to release civilization from the confines of the second law of thermodynamics.
These confines were imposed during Victorian England's scientific and religious cultural fascination with steam engines.
The second law is behind modern refgeration needing electrical energy to compress the refrigerent to force it to release as waste the heat that it has removed from the refrigerator's service interior in the cooling part of the refrigerent's circulation. There is also discarded heat from mechanical friction and electrical resistance.
Refrigeration by the principle that energy is conserved should produce electricity instead of consuming it.
It makes more sense that refrigerators should yield electricity because energy is widely known to change form with no ultimate path of energy gain or loss being found. Therefore any form of fully recyclable energy can be cycled endlessly in any quantity.
In an extreme case senario, full heat recycling, all electric, very isolated underground, undersea, or space communities would be highly survivable with self sufficient EMP resistant LED light banks, automated vertical farms, thaw resistant frozen food storehouses, factories, dwellings, and self contained elevators and horizontal transports.
In a flourishing civillization senario, small self sufficient electric or cooling devices of many kinds and styles like lamps, smartphones, hotplates, water heaters, cooler chests, fans, radios, TVs, cameras, security devices, robot test equipment, scales, transaction terminals, wall clocks, open or ciosed for business luminus signs, power hand tools, ditchdiggers, pumps, and personal transports, would be available for immediate use incrementally anywhere as people see fit.
Somé equipment groups could be consolidated on local networks.
If a high majority thinks our civilization should geoengineer gigatons or
teratons of carbon dioxide out of our environment, instalations using devices that convert ambient heat into electricity can hypothetically be scaled up do it with a choice of comsequences including many beneficial ones.
Energy sensible refrigerators that absorb heat and yield electricity would complement computers as computing consumes electricity and yields heat. Computing would be free. Chips could have energy recycling built in.
A simple rectifier crystal can, iust short of a replicatable long term demonstration of a powerful prototype, almost certainly filter the random thermal motioren of electrons or discrete positiive charged voids called holes so the electric current flowing in one direction predominates. At low system voltage a filtrate of one polarity predominates only a little but there is always usable electrical power derived from the source, which is Johnson Nyquest thermal electrical noise. This net electrical filtrate can be aggregated in a group of separate diodes in consistent alignment parallel creating widely scalable electrical power. The maximum energy is converted from ambient heat to productive electricity when the electrical load is matched to the array impeadence.
Matched impeadence output (watts) is k, one point three eight x 10^ minus 23, Boltzman's constant, times T (temperature Kelvin) times bandwidth (0 Hz to a natural limit ~2 THz @ 290 K) times rectification halving and nanowatt power level rectification efficiency times the number of diodes in the array.
For reference, there are a billion cells of 1000 square nanometer area each per square millimeter, 100 billion per square centimeter.
Order is imposed on the random thermal motion of electrons by the structual orderlyness of a diode array made of diodes made within a slab:
    ______________________ - Out
    🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻
    ______________________ + Out
All the P type semiconductor anodes abut a metal conductive plane deposited on the top face of the slab with nonrectifying joins; all the N type semiconductor cathodes abut the bottom face. As the polarity filtered electrical energy is exported, the amount of thermal energy in the group of diodes decreases. This group cooling will draw heat in from the surrounding ambient heat at a rate depending on the filtering rate and thermal resistance between the group and ambient gas, liquid, or solid warmer than absolute zero. There is a lot of ambient heat on our planet, more in equatorial dry desert summer days and less in polar desert winter nights.
Focusing on explaining the electronic behavior of one composition of simple diode, a near flawless crystal of silicon is modified by implanting a small amount of phosphorus (N type)on one side from a ohmic contact end to a junction where the additive is suddenly and completely changed to boron (P type) with minimal disturbance of the crystal lattice. The crystal then continues to another ohmic contact.
A region of high electrical resistance forms at the junction in this type of diode when the phosphorous near the ĵunction donates electrons that are free to move elsewhere while leaving phosphorus ions held in the crystal while the boron ions donate holes which are similalarly free to move. The two types of mobile charges mutually clear each other away near the junction leaving little electrical conductivity. An equlibrium width of this region is settled between the phosphorus, boron, electrons, and holes. Thermal noise is beyond steady state equlibrium. Thermal noise transients, where mobile electrons move from the phosphorus added side to the boron added side ride transient extra conductivity so the forward moving electrons are preferentally filtered into the external circuit. Mobile electrons are units of electric current. They lose their thermal energy of motion and gain electromotive force, another name for voltage, as they transition between the junction and the array electrical tap. Inside the diode, heat is absorbed: outside the diode, to exactly the same extent, an attached electrical circuit is energized.
Understanding diodes is one way to become convinced that Johnson Nyquest thermal electrical noise can be rectified and aggregated. Self assembling development teams may find many ways to accomplish this wide mission. Taxonomically there should be many ways ways to convert heat directly into electricity.
A practical device may use an array of Au needles in a SiO2 matrix abutting N type GaAs. These were made in the 1970s when registration technology was poor so it was easier to fabricate arrays and select one diode than just make one diode.
There are other plausible breeches of the second law of thermodynamics. Hopefully a lot of people will join in expanding the breech. Please share the successes or setbacks of your efforts.
These devices would probably become segmented commodities sold with minimal margin over supply cost. They would be manufactured by advanced automation that does not need financial incentive. Applicable best practices would be adopted. Business details would be open public knowledge. Associated people should move as negotiated and freely and honestly talk. Commerce would be a planetary scale unified conglomerate of diverse local cooperatives. There is no need of wealth extracting top commanders. We do not need often token philanthropy from the top if the wide majority of people can afford to be generous.

"Technology may have advanced enough to release civilization from the confines of the second law of thermodynamics." Bold statement, amigo. You highly likely to be wrong on this. But if you aren't...nobel prize brotha. Considering the basic physics, which are well proven, you are completely off base here.

@TheRealSnakePlisken The second law is empirical, based on overwhelming use. It has not been proven. We need powerful, durable, replicatable working proof of concept prototypes. I think common sense supports diode arrays. It's so difficult for me to make the prototypes that I encourage many independent teams to build their prototypes and report on them. Let's keep the technology the property of civilization.

Yeap is insane, just IA now can do prediction of people faces and story if is gay or not, a good father and husband or divorced probability, the best detective, the best bussnes assistance, investor assistance, etc, it knows human history better than us, the best saleman, but in a smartphone, the smalls models get better and better and you dont need speed, like it take 20 minutes to make a really good paper or work or book, or respond and it prove it by revise it, like you can talk like a real person to a dumb easy simple IA is enough if can check the answer and follow basic logic, so things are going to get exponential and well life will get better to all like everybody will have their personal small service robot soon build by robots made by new materials easy to make, cheap, etc.... like from nothing to magic.
