I've been saying this for years, but I hope VR/AR/3D-space replaces chapters and chapters of text for learning. I feel like my eyes were never made to move in tiny angles across tiny text on a 2D page. 3D simulations of ANYTHING would be priceless. Save the text for equations only. Replace all other paragraphs with 3D simulations for intuitive understanding.

For learning languages and for the imagination books still have a great value. You could get very far with simulated situations, but there would have to be lots and lots of them. For formulas there is an artificial language called Numaudo, which makes them pronounceable. I have not tried it, but I think it would make mathematics easier for many people.

@@muhasin23 It is often difficult to find the right people to speak with, espiecially if you are not good in a language. Currenty I learning Italian. I am going to Italian events, but it is hard for me to take part in the conversations. With books I learn a lot easier. But I thought of what you said too. If a language is a bit rare, and you don’t find many speakers to meet with, you could have a large group in a digital environment. An advantage over a chat room would be, that people see, that you are paying attention, even if you are not talking, because you are only a beginner.

In recent research, scientists have been investigating a method called "decoded neurofeedback." They used brain scanners to monitor the activity in the visual cortex while participants looked at specific objects. The participants then carried out unrelated mental tasks without knowing that they were associated with the observed patterns. As time passed, the participants became better at identifying specific object orientations without being consciously aware of it. Although this subliminal approach may not be as dramatic as the learning depicted in "The Matrix," it has the potential to eventually improve skill acquisition.
Further research indicates that the human brain may operate on a different learning principle compared to artificial neural networks. Instead of directly modifying synaptic connections, the brain initially arranges neuron activity into an optimal configuration before making adjustments. This efficient process helps retain existing knowledge, thereby accelerating the learning process.
Moreover, variability among brain cells might contribute to faster learning. Studies have shown that altering the electrical properties of individual cells can enhance learning.

It's captivating how these sci-fi movies offer a sneak peek into the future and shape our perception of AI. They highlight potential advancements and ethical dilemmas, helping us imagine the possibilities and challenges that lie ahead. By presenting complex scenarios and futuristic technology, these films stimulate our curiosity and provoke thought about the direction AI development might take. They also remind us of the responsibilities and ethical considerations we must consider as we move forward with AI innovation. Ultimately, these movies play a crucial role in bridging the gap between science fiction and reality, making us more aware of both the opportunities and risks associated with artificial intelligence.

Research suggests that prioritizing experiences over material possessions tends to lead to greater happiness. While some studies show that wealthier people tend to be happier, focusing solely on accumulating money can actually have the opposite effect. However, even having just a little extra cash in your savings account (around £500) can increase life satisfaction. To keep more cash on hand, consider asking yourself: What non-essential expenses genuinely contribute to my happiness? If the answer is no, try taking a break from those expenses. Additionally, spending on experiences, buying time, and investing in others are ways to promote happiness. Remember that individual personalities play a role in spending choices, and future research may provide more personalized advice to maximize happiness from your money. So, consider creating memorable experiences and investing in meaningful connections for lasting happiness!

It would be nice if the U.S WAS able to work with China on things like A.I, but it can't happen so long as they keep stealing intellectual property that ends up used in their military due to their "dual-use" and "unrestricted warfare" doctrines. China's economy has been on a downward spiral, it isn't any threat to the U.S economy in actuality. He is forced to go by the CCP propaganda, else he'll quickly lose those companies back in China or even have his family gone after. That kind of malevolent authoritarian regime simply can't be worked with.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind robotics and AI taking over the super laborious, repetitive, and boring tasks that the more unfortunate people have to do like as in a factory worker, admin offices, tax accountants etc. Boredom has been around since the ancient times of the human race. We’ve come far from first inventing the wheel, but mankind’s boredom, unhappiness, yearnings and competitive greedy nature are still thriving and has never been understood. I think most intelligent people appreciate the raw nature of the universe and earth that was not man-made and will always be the most enticing mystery that AI or any other tech can never be a match to. Ai and private blockchains I think will bring a harmonious future for us because nobody can get scammed like we’ve been scamming for centuries by middle men of businesses, lawyers, banks (including any nation’s government fattening themselves from their people!). The only way to get rid of ‘feeling lost’, bored, rage or depression is to see what thoughts are contributing to this sense of emptiness and to see we are not our thoughts, that we ourselves have a programmed virus telling us that we have to work hard to get any money. Maybe that emptiness is the source of all creation. When Jesus said to work by the “sweat of our brow”, perhaps he meant to ‘think’ about our human troubles very deeply, “know thyself”, to love. I’m not sure love is here on this planet in mankind’s heart. If it were, there would be no wars. Wars are for the very rich to stay rich while young people get maimed and slaughtered fighting for richman’s business deal.

The argument that with intelligence and that AI being intelligent means that it will have wisdom is a HUGELY flawed premise. Having loads of data and being intelligent does not necessarily mean that such data or intelligence will be used wisely. Wisdom is created through consistent experience with the data/information/intelligence that is given. AI can be programmed by what a human thinks is a wise choice and it can spit that out but AI (as well as we as human itself can only be able to have wisdom through experience (ie trial and error with said intelligence/information) to know if something is wise. Wisdom requires the capacity to make thoughtful, contemplative choices, with virtues/values/ethics/common sense, experiential self knowledge, understanding of complicated situations, self transcendence, unbiased judgment, and understanding (thereby making AI conscious and sentient) all of which AI may be programmed to do by what a human tells it to do (ie imitate or simulate such) BUT is unable to conjure such on its own of its own volution as humans do. AI can view the list of possible scenarios that are programmed into it by a human and spit out what may be the best choice out of that but AI is incapable of conjuring its own thoughts therefore does not have the ability to make thoughtful contemplative choices nor does it have understanding within complicated situations (it can only give the list of possible scenarios but it is free from understanding them as we humans understand) ergo is incapable of having wisdom.

They've faked all their own A.I advancements (their "Sara A.I" at a Huawei booth was faked with a girl there talking into a microphone, their ChatGPT clone couldn't understand Mandarin...because it WAS just a re-packaged ChatGPT, etc.) and tend to focus on military/propaganda applications of the tech instead. They're already using image-generators to fake views of areas in China (which they've already done through heavy photo-shopping, but it is done a lot faster now with A.I), and we're meant to encourage their development of it...?

Devices are not the problem. I have a quest 3 and it's fine as a device. The Programms and Games just suck

Come on guys, unless you closely monitor AGI as it emerges you cannot know with certainty what it will do with the whole human lexicon of knowledge and history. The hair on your neck should be standing on end as it is on my neck when thinking how quickly and unpredictably this is unfolding. Elon’s noble intent to make sure it is truth seeking and fact based might help but there are too many players from which to mess it up.

But... The lack of human contact with other humans and nature is causing serious problems. Or is it only the algorithms causing these problems? Whatever, the algos need to be fixed to reach your vision of abundance. If not, we're headed for dystopia.

I own the meta quest 3. It is not as problematic as the rift. But it still is disturbing. Something is wrong. The lenses just do not feel real. You become confused. Disturbed. Immediately after putting the headset on. It feels a little like wearing wrong glasses. No headset out there is free of this. So therefore i just can not stay in vr too. Long. No matter if i just sit still. Once i put on the headset it feels bad. Immediately. And i LOVE VR. But it just messes me up. Really, really, really messes with your head. There is nothing i can do. This technology is therefore FAR from being perfect. The biggest problem is that it makes you confused and physically unwell. No one will ever " enter the metaverse " as long VR is as flawed as that. I would be in VR all the time. If i could. I can not. It makes me puke

The apple product will fail like the apple Newton. It has to be more practical. Smaller like wearing a pair of glasses. I tried one out with my 13 yo daughter. She wasn’t impressed and said “silly”.

I think the team at Apple agrees but wishes the platform out there so that it is mature by the time that size/weight is possible.

So for most of this podcast you are convincing us how wonderful it is to be in a metaverse and have these virtual glasses on etc and then at the end you say that parents should limit video games because they can be addicting and only provide value short term? Hmmmm....talk about contradictory! And not only that but you are making the case for what I and others have said on here about virtual metaverse is not of value!

The host also mentions about "democratisation" of the technology.....with China, a country without democracy. (even going so far as to try re-defining what the word "democracy" means, to pretend that they have it since it's become synonymous with successful countries by this point) Can't really work with those companies there, given their history of completely self-serving business practices of stealing from/undercutting every given industry. Nothing but red flags there.

I lived in both China and U.S. the last 18 years… I’m likely more aware of what happens in China than most. Don’t believe everything you read in the media…

Everyone talks about abundance, but if we aren’t working, and we don’t have our jobs then how are we gonna afford to do all these fun exciting things that we now have time to do. For the super rich it doesn’t affect you and for the companies creating this or they’re only gonna get wealthier but what about everyone else. We haven’t had time to, acclimate to the ideal of joblessness. I think most people talking about this are pretty much the wealthy or someone who’s going to get wealthy from this technology

Read the book. Your questions are explained in detail. FYI, I come from very humble beginnings and get no personal benefit from the technology we’re discussing. Also, the book is structured as a debate so both the optimistic and pessimistic views are covered.
