I've ruck 35lbs for 5kms every alternating days and mix it up with push ups against walls/balustrades. I'm 6'1', 200pounds and after three weeks didn't lose a single pound but gained 3.5kgs of muscles according to my smart scale. My gut is smaller too. Its amazing
I've been rucking for about 2 years now. I ran for years, but it really started to beat me up as I got older. I'm also not built like a "runner" (6'4" 240). Rucking has been a great addition to my fitness routine. I know my home state, and it looks like you're rucking in NJ.
Thanks for sharing, John! Some great info in that comment that many people will find useful. For all the good, bad and dumb shit in this state... I'll always be a Jersey boy! Stay in touch; I'm based in Carteret. Exit 12 off the Pike! Gotta mention the Exit. 😂 -Hg
@@CoachHelder I'm a Jersey lifer myself. I'm in Long Branch and grew up in Red Bank. I do a lot of rucking in Highlands, Hartshorne Woods, and over the Sandy Hook Bridge. You can't beat the hills or the views.

Been on my first rucking trip this morning and I feel so good afterwards! Great channel, sending best wishes from England 🏴 🇺🇸 ✌🏼all the best mate!
Ive done 5 miles with 10 Kilos, including hills, im 60years old now and have always Loved exercise, but can walk up to 65 miles some weeks, plus cycling and some light dumbell. Workouts.
Been rucking for a while but found shin splints can get in the way sometimes. If this happens, try short strides but high reps rather than long streps low reps. Can honestly say rucking has saved my ass in more way than one... happy rucking guys
@@CoachHelder thanks so much for the like! It all happened by accident... Basically, just started walking home from university to avoid being in the house and having so much to think about. I'm 5'6 and BIG! used to work out a lot but gained fat and weight 240! Started rucking 3 weeks ago and notice my gut getting much smaller but weight 235 now. I'm sure glad I pushed them carts at walmart & walked stairs back then!
I did too! I retainer my weight but my gut was reduced and gained over 3kgs of muscles in two weeks! Rucking is one of the most amazing thing I've found. I don't know why not many do it
I'm not even from the US and rucking sounds very fun, I do plan going to the us maybe I will even move there so I could even find people to ruck with, I'm sure it would be very enjoyable to speak with people as I walk.
It is certainly an enjoyable event, Mr. Waffle. Well... sometimes it is and other times, we really step it up and challenge ourselves. If you are able to carry on a conversation, you aren't rucking fast enough. LOL! It really depends on the focus of the ruck. I have various programs that are built into certain rucks. We use the gear in our rucksacks to exercise with when we get to certain mile markers. The options are countless and easy to vary. I hope you can join us one day. @@CoachHelder Well I will try and join as soon as possible, but first I got to make sure I'm ready for the hard shift, also looking into what place will be the best for me to stay at in terms of weather, temperature, and who knows maybe I will ruck in one of your programs!
Really good vid Helder, thanks for posting. Been rucking since the first lockdown (march here in Scotland). Like you I have learned alot about my local area!
Thank you Tom, I appreciate your feedback.and support! Its amazing how much we learn when we march through areas that we commonly pass by daily, via another form of transportation. I have been rucking for 3 weeks 30 lbs for 1.5 hours... I used to run 45 minutes every morning. i find that rucking is even better than running.. should i go heavier? 30 lbs dosen't feel to heavy..
What about long term issues with rucking - back issues? What do you recommend for old people rucking ? I recently had double hip surgery, do you recommend rucking for my condition?
Hello, I would suggest getting cleared by a medical pro. From there, take a few hikes without a pack. Focus on distance not time. Once you are comfortable with that distance, add your rucksack with very little weight. From there, increase the weight in your pack by a pound or 2 each week or every couple of weeks. I am actually working on a rucking program. It should be live within the next 2 months. If you are interested, be sure to subscribe and stay posted. Slow and steady os usually the best and most sustainable route. -Hg
They are definitely pricey but you do get what you pay for. There are a bunch of viable options out there that are much less expensive. There are many factors such as your current physical condition and of course, your goal(s.) Keep in mind that pace, distance and the amount that you are carrying all play a big role in this equation. Start slow, get yourself a baseline and then get out there as often as you can. Safety first and ease your way in. -Hg
What I recommend to clients that I work with is to start out 3x per week, with 15lbs, 3 miles, 17min miles or faster. Then, take it from there. Be sure to get checked out by your medical professional to make sure that you are good to go. -Hg
