Rucking is a active cardio exercises. I would also add burpees and/or jogging for other cardio options. Carrying 24 cans of beer for running my mom's errands, plus the barefoot shoes and baseball caps. I am ready to grow another inch to my legs.

I keep a little Speedy Stitcher Awl in my bag with some waxed thread. Comes in super handy for ruck, gear, or clothing repairs.

Hello Tony and thanks for dropping in and providing feedback; it is greatly appreciated.
It's difficult to give advice without actually working with you in person, Tony.
The short answer is... Yes! You can definitely lose weight and strengthen your core through rucking. However, many factors come into play when we attempt any movement or exercise. Basically, it has to be done correctly.
Things such as your spinal alignment, how your ruck is packed, your pace, how you progress within your protocols, Man... even your footwear plays a big role in the effectiveness of the activity being performed.
A put a bodyweight program together that helped me when I needed it the most, and has helped many that have brought us similar issues to what you are voicing today.
If you are interested, here is the link to that program:

Whichever avenue you pursue, just be sure to attack it with small baby-steps. Never let your ego take over. Build up slowly, listen to your body and Never Quit!
Stay in touch and I am here if you need me.

    Isn't this hiking, backpacking,just renamed,

Hello Ivy, rucking is a term used by the military that is synonymous with a forced march.
It is hiking with a pack but with a different intent. The pack weight, the cadence in which you are hiking at and the distance all factor in.
The goal is always to go faster, further and with heavier rucksacks as we try and achieve new personal bests. It can be done solo but with a group... it adds a completely different dimension.
