The brief: A lot of people view Discover Weekly as sort of the Holy Grail of Spotify marketing. In truth, the playlist is a little overhyped... but also, it's a legit sign of Spotify's favor, and it can be really helpful.
In this week's video, I walk through the strategies that I used to help a client get their first bit of Discover Weekly traction. Видеоклипы
I just found your channel and have been watching a lot of these promotional videos for this song. It's kinda funny bc I found old friends, new friends in a Spotify daily mix I'm pretty sure.
The guitar sound in "maybe we're going to be okay" was fantastic!
Right? Self-produced, too.
Just hit discover weekly this week.
Thanks Jon for another amazing insight! I feel is a bit discouraging that even with editorial playlists, promotions or discovery weekly, there is a peak that usually goes down dramatically :( It happens to me too and makes me feel that you need to be promoting your track eternally to make it grow, I dont know if you have any thoughts about that. Thanks for your vids!
Yeah, I get that.
Honestly, I think some of that is unavoidable; even the biggest, most successful songs have their peaks. Idt there's any way to ensure a song stays at a certain level forever, but you can definitely err on the side of more sustainable promo methods (i.e., Facebook ads instead of playlists) to try to make the curve longer.
My band had the fortune to get the attention of Spotifys algorithm sending us in a lot of peoples Release-radar lists this past week. The song is now three weeks old and sits at around 14k streams and we currently have 11k listeners/month, i'm not sure we'll still see that massive traffic of 12k streams in a week since it reset today but really hope to get on discover weekly.
Regardless though it was an amazing boost! Sadly not sure the save rate is the very best though having around 1000 saves which would be slightly less than 10%
Hey, that's an awesome boost! Definitely a sign that the music is quality / Spotify likes you. Congrats!
Ads are probably the best way to increase the save rate, fwiw. But it doesn't sound like you're far off... hope you're able to break through 🤞
@@twostorymediamusic Thats great to hear! Regardless if we get on bigger playlists and "break through" it's still a nice confirmation our music is quality enough and we are doing something right:)
@@twostorymediamusic Also want to thank you for all your tips, your videos are very informative and helpful!
Your question regarding the tree has to be my favourite moment within a RUclips video. If you figured out the answer please tell me, plants dying for no reason is a major part of my life. 😂
My new song only gets streams from friends and family but i know some people that heard it and they dont count they listened more than 2 times fully through so why its only counting the ones from people that follow me the live count only triggers by people that listen alot to me and follow me.
Am i shadow banned ?
I found the streaming analysis quite interesting when it came to speaking about the Ad campaigns
I've just started a campaign myself, the CPC has fallen each day and is now sitting at a good figure. Do you find the results of these campaigns to always be a long-term compounding process rather than straight results every day?
Also, how do you find the CPC changes for you per day? I had mine start at around £2.7 before quickly falling to 0.3 within a few days.
congrats! what was the reason for targeting tier 1 vs 1+2
Thanks! Just artist preference, really.
Great video! How long were you running the $10/day ads for? The entire time? Congrats!!!!!
Appreciate it!
And we started about a month after the song was out - ran the SubmitHub campaign first.
Good work.. Would great to see the facebook ad to see what kind of ad has been working. Had various ads and some did a lot better than others. Curious to know your approach to creative.
Good note. I usually keep it pretty simple... For this one, the highest performing ad was stock video footage with text over top (artist name, song name, and the Spotify logo).
I'll make a note to do a video on ad creative 👍
Thanks man! Great to know. Most of the time simple is the best approach! Look forward to the vid! @@twostorymediamusic
Does Discover Weekly exist in every country? Or only Tier 1 countries?
The leaves is fading indicates it’s lacking of fertilizer. Hope it gets well by now. I recommend joyful dirt or dr earth potted fertilizer
Do you think if you spent twice as much daily it would trigger DW twice as fast / double the results??
Hard to say, but hypothetically, yeah, you could get there twice as fast by doubling your spend (assuming streams doubled along with the spend).
There's a general rule of thumb that 10k streams w/ a 10% save rate will trigger DW, so the quicker you get to those numbers, the quicker, supposedly, you get to DW. But it's definitely not set in stone; I've seen those numbers fail to trigger DW, and I've seen smaller numbers succeed in triggering it.
Long-story-short: 🤷
Too much water by looks of it
Most helpful comment, by far.
Sweet! What was your daily ad spend?
$10 per day, and we started the campaign about a month after release.
Hey does anyone know how to know if you have discovered discover weekly? My song has like 6 streams from it so does that mean it will grow on monday?
Literally any streams counts as "triggering" it. As far as what to expect in stream count, it really varies. Sometimes you'll barely get anything. But usually, if you keep getting good data, you'll see occasional spikes - and yeah, the biggest jumps are always on Mondays.
@@twostorymediamusic Ah okay! thank u very much and yes we saw on monday there we got about 2k streams out of the blue haha so must be that good data
In terms of playlist adds and saves do you feel discover weekly is more productive than release radar. By the definition release radar seems to be more targetted. My current song is on both and not sure why there is so much hype about discover weekly. Seems like its more a badge of honour.
It really varies, tbh. Sometimes Release Radar drives way more engagement, sometimes Discover Weekly is better.
The cool thing about DW is that it's specifically geared to push your music out to *new* fans. In other words, it's a clear sign that Spotify thinks you're worth pushing.
But yeah, in terms of actual engagement, DW definitely functions as a badge of honor ha.
Nice vid but are you allergic to blinking? lol 😂
Nah, I'm just a lizard.
Bros not blinking👀
No I am, I'm just blinking really really fast. If you watch at 0.25x speed you'll see it.
@@twostorymediamusic 🤣🫶🏽
Can you please give an update on the health of the tree? Thanks 😅
Love this question. I'll give you a more detailed update next week, but for now, spoiler: It's still alive.
@@twostorymediamusic Love to the channel and love to the tree! Cheers
Hey Jon! Great video - do you do private consultations/have an email I could reach out to you with? ❤
Hey Shalev! Thanks for watching. And yeah, I do, although I'm pretty selective with the stuff I take on. Here's my website if you're interested: twostorymedia.com
@@twostorymediamusic Just tried the contact form a few times from different browsers and it didn't work, said "an error occurred" down below. Do you have any email I could reach out to?
I feel as if spotify should start allowing artists to combat being put on botted playlists. Sure you cant demand your song off a playlist but maybe allow artists to opt in/out of which playlist counts for stats. Find a botted playlist, opt out and any future streams/listeners from that playlist will not affect your listening or stream count at all.
I actually really like this idea.
how much did you spend?
I'm getting a little fuzzy on this because it was awhile ago... but I think that when I made this video, we'd spent about $1k on ads. ($300 / month for a little over three months.)
