I hate the factory suspension in my 2020 MY. I live in a major city and all the roads are HORRIBLE. I feel every imperfection on the road. I also hate that for the price of the car that I would have to spend thousands on a new suspension that should already be there.
I had Unplugged Performance put in luxury coilovers earlier this year on my 2022 MYP and honestly I couldn’t tell a difference. In fact, I felt like the ride was even STIFFER than the stock system. A few weeks I told UP and they agreed to put the stock back in and they gave a full refund. Once I got back into the stock system I realized that the stock was indeed a smoother ride. I don’t know what happened. It makes no sense to me. But I’m glad UP was super professional about it the whole way.
Honestly I’ve never heard of someone replacing stock suspension for coil overs expecting smoother ride until I got the model y. Even after reading all the reviews and forums I’m still skeptical about the aftermarket suspensions being SMOOTHER. I’d only consider OHLINS if I were even to think about touching the suspension. I’ve had other cars with coil overs and yeah they handled better but definitely not smoother than any stock suspension.
Did they refund the labor cost too? I ordered a MYP recently. Honestly would've taken a MYLR but my indecisive ass took too long and am unsure what's going to happen with the EV tax incentives so figure I'd get MYP and worst case spend some money on wheels or suspension if needed down the line. But I'm in SoCal and don't really have many potholes and rough roads. Freeways can be a little beat up in places but think it should be alright. Their doing some construction by the freeway near the Tesla store so going to go test a MYP and rip it over those to see how it does
Do you hear any loud clunk sounds going over really big potholes? Have you developed any squeaking that required re-greasing early? I didn’t use my coil over yet but read those were some minor things that happen on some of these. I’m leaning towards the Ohlins for max comfort.
Love the video!! I took delivery of my model 3 June 11th, by July 10th I bagged it with air suspension 😂. Roughly $5k-$7k for air suspension out the door with labor depends where you go. But I’m really surprised how expensive the unplugged luxury set is. I’m guessing out the door this must have cost almost $5k!?
Technically those are data matrix codes not QR codes. Data matrix codes work better on smaller parts which is why auto makers mark parts with them. Just wanted to share that. Great video. I was looking specifically for all the info in this video related to the suspension. I had no idea you can't adjust alignment. That's crazy. Hoping to take delivery this next week of a Blue MYP and trying to decide in what order I want to do upgrades.
I find the ride of my model 3LR poor and bumpy, glad you make this video. Have to choose between the unplugged and mountain pass suspension. I have the idea they are quit similar in end result. Great video!
I also don't mind the tight suspension of the model Y from factory. I come from driving BMWs in sports mode so I find them very similar in sporty driving experience. I'm not sure I would lower the ride height as I love the way it is. Lowering the Y would make it look like a 3. Nice upgrade nonetheless.

We will be posting a full review video soon but yes. Some of that did happen. Unplugged support was very on top of this though and problem solved it right away.
@@LockettTech Can you tell me more about that, having similar issues myself at the moment. Getting the squeaking from the rear suspension area at slow speeds. I initially had them (UP) lower it when they installed them, but found that it was too low and the car would bottom out on speed bumps / scrape the bottom of the side and plastic mudflaps would hit. Had a local shop increase the height so it was closeish to stock, but now getting that annoying creaking/squeak at slow speeds, from the back I believe. Have an appointment with Tesla service next week, but curious what UP said and how they were able to fix the problem. Thanks!
@@timers I’m curious if you fixed the problem? I’m waiting for my long range (switched from P) and considering one of these suspension. Still not sure which one to go with. I’m also afraid it might not make that much of a difference on a 23’ and it’ll be a waste of almost 4K 😬
Great question…I wondered the same at first. It hasn’t impacted it all. FSD uses its sensors to determine lanes and adjusts steering based on lane markers.
Kirk from Unplugged. There is no negative impact on FSD, AP or EAP. Our Luxury Coilovers will make your ride using these technologies much more enjoyable.
I haven't noticed any change in range. Performance wise...it all depends on how you have them set. Former suspension will take off a little faster but be a harder ride. That said we are talking tenths of seconds difference.

You would have to dial it in. If on the softest settings it likely will by a small margin since it will dampen the jump. With some playing around though you could probably pick up a little time.
No, you do not want to tighten the preload to lower the car. Pressing in the springs beyond the preload changes the spring rate of the springs. You took it to the "best". He's wrong
I have a 2022 and I got the same coilovers you got and it honestly did nothing. I think it made it worse. I brought it back to UP and they replaced the OEM 😢
They added "Comfort Suspension". It's no air suspension and still not better than the Unplugged Luxury Coilovers. They just changed the color of the lipstick on the pig. "Maybe if we call it something different they won't notice!"
Lol. Actually that's not curb rash...we usually have rim savers on but it had to be removed in order for the alignment machine to clip on the rims. So all that is just 3M tape from the rim savers.
No. If you have any suspension issues down the road Tesla will not warranty third party shocks obviously, but if anything else outside of suspension goes wrong your warranty will stay intact!
im so confused why you would do all this work and put the beautiful suspension but leave the ugly curbed tore up rims. Like literally i can see a half inch silver ring around each rim!
Great question, although most of the other manufacturers out there have about 40+ years of line production experience on Tesla. Just like it will take all of them to catch up to Tesla's tech it will take time for them to catch up with quality.
I liked your video but I don't feel that it was exactly unbiased since you had Unplugged on camera interview and just praising them up/down before experiencing the end result. Also, the residential road you were test riding on is nothing like compared to roads of a major city that carry a lot of traffic 24/7 which is where I drive on.
It's hard to find every road type to test on but trust me when I say the roads here in NE PA are terrible! Since this video we have driven it on and off road and have a review video coming soon! Thanks for watching!
Tesla won't warranty after market parts...so obviously they won't warranty something that goes wrong with the suspension but Unplugged sure will. If something else breaks, not related to your suspension, your Tesla warranty is still intact.
