    My daughter started creating. She reminded me of a mindset I had about making music. To just do it. And not let all the gear... all the imposter syndrome.... all the negtaive self talk. Just creating to create because it needs to come out.

    Awesome! This is a welcome reality check. Reminds me of when I had my kids recording their own phone-signals back in the day... Just a simple drumbeat and their vocals/rap "Incoming call for Robin, pick it up pick it up" Hahaha

    What a powerful lesson! I've been on a similar path recently. It's been 35 years since I wrote any music. I recently decided to start writing songs again. It's about the simple basics of creativity. It's really what we were designed to do, express our creativity. But it's not limited to music, creativity can be expressed in thousands of ways. Are we using our creativity as it was intended?

    Needed this. 20 years ago (at 17, not 7) I started just like your daughter. My uncle showed me how to do all of the same stuff you taught her, but with Reason 2.0. I’m technically “better” in every way now than I was then (gear included), but back then my creativity felt limitless. And to your point made towards the end, we create these limits for a variety of reasons. Nevertheless, thank you (& your daughter) for this video 😊

    FANTASTIC video. Girl dad here (12 & 4). You are a good dude and great dad. Your channel deserves every bit of the success you will most certainly continue to achieve. On the plane to NAMM as I watched this. Suddenly home sick for my babies. Also extremely excited as this is my first NAMM show since ‘05. I have to do the math, too. 43 years old and feeling dang good to be truly excited. If you are in Anaheim for the weekend I’d love to buy you a beer. If not, keeping being you. You got a big fan in me in rural mid GA.

    Great parenting. Crazy how kids soak up knowledge at that age, and you must have done a fine job teaching. I agree with other comments. This song is better and more original than a lot of what's out there, not that that's important.
    I go back to "songs" I wrote when I was 15 and in my mind are still good. No agenda and not giving a f*** about what people think is so liberating. Great episode!

    This was just the best. She’s “savvy” dude. I’m sure she’ll turn it into something😉. I’ve got 2 of my own that sit down at our little home rig and just “play.” They don’t look at me like the Yelp elite because it’s not a Neve lol. They fumble around until they find something that lines up with their taste and it’s lost on me at 44 years old. It’s sad. I def feel you on this video. BTW, I’ve touched base before but I’m on the south side of Indy. We gotta link up and hang sometime!

    Needed to hear this today. Nearing the end of preproduction for my band and been stuck on the last song for ages overthinking. Been putting a lot of pressure on myself.
    I think the most in the zone and fastest work I've ever done was behind a semi pro mixing board with boss digital 8 track and a shoe box of sm57s and RadioShack mics.
    Now that i got a lot of crazy gear and am trying to break into something that could overtake my main job someday I've definitely been pushing off or second guessing things i do because of thet imposter syndrome.
    Thanks for the swift but gentle kick in the mental pants. Back to working on music i go.

    The only reason i felt my gear was ever limiting was because i clients didn’t want to work with me due to my gear not being good enough. When i got the gear it was the space and my marketing skills and lack of a team to do all the work needed that my competitors had. I moved out of the hyper competitive cities and now I’m hoping to just work with people again. Or just continue writing my own stuff and enjoying it.
    When i think about good enough, i think is it done? Would i listen to it if i heard it on the radio. For once i am starting to feel it is ready, but i wish i had continued to practice my instruments and music over obsessing over getting the sound i want for 20 years. I started in 1998 using soundforge and recording stereo tracks and pasting them as a ‘mix’ of each other and controlling the volume with the paste. Then i eventually got pro tools rig and a mixer for multi track recording. I hated pro tools and went with Vegas and then Cubase and then logic many years later, but now I’m back to pro tools. Though i often use reaper as well when i don’t need much editing done. It’s been a journey and i turn 40 soon. And yet i have like 1/100th of the success you have had in life. No family, no partner, and I’m still trying to earn enough to pay my bills through audio (I’m at about 25% of my income through audio right now).

    • @RecordingStudioLoser
      @RecordingStudioLoser  5 месяцев назад +1

      Dude success is soooo relative.
      I feel very fortunate for sure. However. If someone is happy and doing what they love. That’s success.
      The hustle is real tho. And sometimes it doesn’t feel like success at any level. You’re just running up an ever ending hill.

    • @CreativeMindsAudio
      @CreativeMindsAudio 5 месяцев назад

      @@RecordingStudioLoser yeah I feel ya! I think I would enjoy it a lot more if I could easily not worry about paying my bills. Had a good job 5 years ago and still waiting for a similar level of pay to sustain me. Since it’s been constant hustle and if I don’t get my audio income portion I have trouble paying bills. I think without that pressure I could do better work and get better clients. I don’t do my best work when stressed. Big part of why I moved to a cheaper city through. Hoping to network more here and get more stable. But so far this city is proving a lot more me and successful in other areas of my life so only a matter of time until that success translates to my audio career

    This is related to some things I've been pondering recently including "when something is good" or "when something is genuine" or "when something is done". Imagine the worst thing someone else can say about your music with a basis in fact. In other words, disregard any "troll comments" (i.e. "You suck") and focus more on things like "too much reverb" or "your snare is [1kHz]" (the last one may also be a troll comment too ... context matters =] ). If you can stand behind what you made even with those kinds of comments and critiques. then you know you are on the right path and "everything should be fine". If it bothers you and you can address it during a "work-in-progress" period or before its release date, then address it. But otherwise, "it is what it is".
    While analysis has its place and should be used, but it also shouldn't be the end all, be all. Once again, when people react to your music, they are not going to spout off various manufacturers or parameter settings or "what DAW did you use". It's going to be things like "this sounds cool" or "I like that guitar sound" or ... "your snare is [1kHz]". Music is a whole greater than the summing of its individual parts. And you have to be fearless or at least not so tepid and timid about it. Another way of putting it: If you don't have a certain degree of confidence in what you make, then why should any else care about what you make?
    BTW, I'm five years older than you and ... yeah =]
