    nice video, love the old school tricks and tatics. I've been trying to find my father a 73 nova like he used to have, not much out there anymore. i just bought a '86 square body gmc for my father on friday but i know he really wants a nova. it'll suffice for now. i think it's also neat to see right off the bat you noted the small differences between 2 and 4dr glass. small details like that means a lot these days.

    For the channel, pull engine, do an entire rebuild, as a teaching tool video.
    For the car, insert a 350V8 and be done with it. Then new brakes, new exhaust, new gas tank, new paint, new Interior, new steering wheel, new radiator, new hoses, and make this car a show car, cruiser, and go on power tour!

    Wow. This makes me appreciate just how in good condition I bought my 4 door in. I bought my 70, with a inline 6 250 in it, running and driving for just under $5k I think. But I'm a real simple mechanic still, so starting with something a bit easier for me is real ideal especially since I don't have a trailer or anything to haul cars around.
    I can't believe how complete that engine is! 😳 and it turns over! So neat!! I say, throw some mean tires on and have fun with it! Fun video! I can't believe it actually turned over! I hope you work on it more if possible. Sometimes it's fun to start on a new project.

    I want you to try putting some transmission fluid into the cylinders let it set for week in the hot weather.,or in A heated room instead then retry to start it again.if it does start up let run until for at least 10 minutes.,Or so then get the water pump situated to let the thermostat open up then shut back down again to recool back down again.dump some transmission fluid into the carburetor while it's cooling down. Retry after it's cold to the touch. If smokes let it clear up then try to open the throttle.& Just let it idle for 30 minutes.,or longer. Witch means running on.,off of A boat fuel tank of course to. I suggest using none ethanol gasoline in it for the test trial to. You might be.,or could be surprised by the results.

    First you probably have a lot more experience than me at this type of stuff. If it were mine and a manual transmission I'd say drag it up and down the street, in gear, without the power connected. Putting some heat and oil on those rings may free them up enough to start it.
    Since it's not a manual transmission, I'd load each cylinder with a mix of STP (or motor honey) and Marvel Mystery Oil, spin that sucker to coat the rings and cylinder walls. Put the spark plugs back in and keep spinning the motor while shooting either in it. Maybe it would crank. Maybe I'd try swapping in a HEI distributor for starting purposes.
    I keep a few HEI distributors, three hot batteries, lots of staring fluid, MMO and a jump box in my shop. (You can tell I work on complete garbage by that statement.) Good luck, I'll wait and watch.

    Do a budget 307 stroker. Use 4.0 Jeep pistons 5.7" rods with a 350 crank. Try not to get a cam with to much lift because those pistons don't have valve reliefs. Top it off with a set of 305 Vortec heads with some sort of RPM Airgap intake and without any porting it should be over 300 HP.

      I think your channel would explode with a sbc 307 budget stroker in the video title.
      People would click on it just to see if the title was a misprint. LOL
      You gotta put budget in the title though, must people would be able to relate to it.
      The HP was just a guess, in all honesty I think that number might be higher depending on cam choice and compression ratio.

      Agreed. I don’t like parting out cars too much but this one is ROUGH and a 4 door. Lots of good parts though.

    As she’s a 4 door is it worth getting into a ring job ?

      I had a ton of mystery oil in cylinders. I’m thinking the exhaust valves are rusty and not closing all the way.

    IMO 307 was the worst engine chevy had,them dang things burn so much oil

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  2 года назад

      It was never a performance engine for sure. Although I’d say the 305, 265, and 267 are all worse performance engines with everything else being same. 305 had a smaller bore but they at least had performance versions of it.

    There are some millennials trying to make money on raising the price on these 4 door Novas, to little or no avail. In reality they are only good for 2 things. Extra parts & putting them on a 4 by 4 lifted truck frame.

    • @obsessivegarage921
      @obsessivegarage921 2 года назад

      4 door Novas are awesome. We should try and save every older car regardless how many doors it has. Unless you rather just have a bunch of plastic Teslas to restore in the future?
