I will bet money that Malkovich had some hand in that creepy-ass pig being what he carried around. He must have wandered the props department, stumbled upon it, and went "that's the one"
He probably laughed more recapping it than he did watching it because the movie itself really only has the one joke that they keep repeating over and over and over again.
For me, White Chicks was hilarious to me as a kid. I was about 8 when it came out, and living at my aunt's house. My cousins and I watched White Chicks, Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, Napoleon Dynamite nonstop. All those 2004 movies, with very 2004 humour. I can admit it's not as funny as it was as an 8 year old in 2004. If it came out today, I would cringe (god please don't reboot it)
@@ididgt4259 Oh, Napoleon Dynamite held up for sure. Still one of my favorite movies. It was honestly different than the other ones, but I grouped it in there because it was one I was watching a lot at the time
The thing about comedy is if it's not funny or enjoyable, then it completely falls flat. And while RED isn't the worst thing out there, it's....very much falls short of even "basically, fine".
There is one visual gag I was reminded of in Scary Movie 3, I'm reminded of from RLM. The female cops hat keeps getting progressively bigger and bigger throughout every scene. Until it's a sombrero that she can barely fit in her car
Something else to check out for the Wayans is "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood." It parodies things like some of Spike Lee's movies that were big at the time. I rewatched it somewhat recently bracing for the cringe that seemed inevitable, but it actually wasn't too bad. There's a couple things to overlook, but it still works.
Yeah, you are right about Scary Movie 2. So much fell flat. Might be because the studio forced the second one to be made and released asap. They had half the production time to make this movie, compared to the first one. This was so frustrating that the Wayans were done with the franchise for good. Still, it holds a special place in my heart. Just like you, when I was younger I enjoyed it more than the first one (And I still do, even with it flaws). I'm just a sucker for haunted house stories. They really overplayed the disformed hand joke. Yet, the 'hold on to my strong hand' scene still has me giggling like a 12 year old.
I remember RED as being the only movie I ever walked out of. Not because it was that bad, but because I went with a group of high school acquaintances who got bored 30 minutes in, and the group dissolved shortly after.
I love how i watched Scary Movie randomly in the same netflix and chill manner Adum had, then wished i knew his thoughts on it, and then saw this pop up lol. Thx adum
Gotta love synchronicities. I had a similar experience as I was thinking about Scary Movie and White Chicks maybe an hour or two before he posted this vid lol
I think of Keenen Ivory Wayans as kind of one of the pioneers of the genre parody genre-- I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, a very strong directorial debut for the time, and an absolute must-watch. That movie did NOT get its due.
Scoot you saying your BF remembers RED from childhood really made me feel old. I didn't need that attack. I remember that film coming out (Not that I thought it was great), like it was a recent film. Way to put me back in my box you AH.
I had absolutely no idea wtf RED was until you showed the scene where he gets out of the police car. That scene was shown on every trailer for this film, at least every trailer I saw. That scene is all I have ever known of this movie up until now.
the thing I remember and liked back then when watching RED is actually the music! :D the funny thing about the score by Christophe Beck is that every track abbreviated is called RED, for example "Ridiculously Extravagant Disguises". It also features a track by an Italian band that I discovered through this movie and went to see live later on, which was an awesome concert! The band's name is "Calibro 35" and the track in the movie is "Convergere In Giambellino". another track by them that I like is "Eurocrime!". Yeah it's a bit of a retro-sounding funk sound, so if you don't like that then I see the problem! :D
Fun fact: Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are credited as writers, but only because their script for this movie got shelved and never picked-up because it was likely shit.
Kinda yes. The wikipedia page, that referenced some podcast ep with the Wayans says this: "The screenplay was developed by Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans with Buddy Johnson and Phil Beauman, writers for the sitcom The Wayans Bros. At the same time, Miramax was developing a spoof of Scream scripted by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. Due to a WGA decision, all six writers were credited, despite Friedberg and Seltzer not actually working on the filmed script." I've always thought that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer were the worst comedy writers ever, but still gave them some respect for helping with the Scary Movie script. Turns out i gave them too much credit, like the credits of that movie did. They are truly the worst. :D
The Wayans are my entire childhood. That family is such a knockout for a wide range of comedic writing. 'Don't Be a Menace To South Central..." is one of the funniest films ever. It is so unashamed by its absurdity and the calling out of all of the tropes in the movies they are ragging on as well as the BTS stuff that was happening is so good. Ice Cube can kiss my butt.
RED works for me because it's basically a power fantasy, but for boomers (legitimate baby boomers, I mean, not the meme version where everyone over age 45 is one). The main joke is that all the older characters are smarter and more resourceful than the younger ones, but the tone is a lot more wry and restrained than a lot of comedy movies would go for. The cast's performances all reflect this, as most of them are very restrained (save Malkovich, of course) and talk about all their assassinations and black ops like they were any other occupation. The music seeming try-hard also makes sense, given how it sounds exactly how a retiree from 2010 would imagine cool music sounds like (this was probably unintentional, but still). This movie is the physical manifestation of an old Army guy's mildly amused chuckle, and it has a charm to it for that.
White Chicks is a really interesting case of a movie that is completely carried by its voice actors, the movie in its original english form is funny at times but mostly mediocre, while its portuguese dub earned it pretty much universal appraise here in Brazil, the way the lines and delivered and adapted for the ptbr dub was genius and fit perfectly with the vibes of the movie while making it significantly funnier
acabei de fazer um comentario defendendo o filme e mencionei a dublagem brasileira como um fator importante pra ser engraçado. acho que a gente deu sorte com as branquelas, hahaha
@@dirrdevil we are not paying attention to that, we know the movie is mediocre. You also can't talk about it if you don't know the language or watched the dubbed movie.
@@HaveanOreshnik Given the general consensus is that the movies get less funny as they go on, yeah if it's just 1 hour+ of unfunny jokes, grossness, sex, and references, yeah I'd say suffering a bit more with each sequel.
What if all the writers on "White Chicks" came up with their own scenes individually and since all of them could only think of dinner, drinks and dressing up, you end up with 6 different versions of those same scenes in the finished film.
8:50 _I'm Gonna Git You Sucka_ is easily the funniest parody film any of the Wayans siblings have touched. Even if you dont have a great wealth of the Exploitation/Blaxploitation genre the film stood as the funniest Blaxploitation film bar none until _Black Dynamite._
I’ve seen better parody movies that make this look like shit. Which it is. Shaun of the Dead Tropic Thunder Black Dynamite Hot Fuzz Shrek This is the End Airplane Cabin in the woods Team America World Police Borat Movie The Boys tv show Young Frankenstein Monty Python and the Holy Grail Monty Python’s Life of Brian
I hope he does actually watch I'm gonna git you sucka. It is peak Wayans comedy, and you are correct. It's one of the best blackspolitation parodies. Along with "Don't be a menace......." the Wayans were very much on fire in the EARLY 90s
Shoutout to you for noting how amazing a dramatic actor Marlon Wayans is; it's a real shame we didn't get more roles like that from him. But also, I'm Gon Git You Sucka is a classic, if you know anything about blaxploitation films it's a real treat. I think you might really like it.
“Rule 2: don’t fall down” is the Scary Movie quote which still comes to my mind whenever I’m watching a horror all these years later. I have no idea why, it just burrowed itself firmly in there.
I would disagree with Adum on the dinner and drinks criticism. If you think about the setting the characters are in drink and drink makes the most sense. The movie is taking place in the Hamptons during the summer. By that logic there would be daily brunches, dinners, and after parties.
I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for RED simply because it was the first R rated movie I ever watched (which of course made it a big fucking deal for me), and I saw it at like the first sleepover I was ever invited to. So, at the time, I thought it was the coolest thing ever and I probably based my whole personality off of it for a month, and then I've never watched it again because I just know it won't live up to what little memory I have of it. (also I just double checked and it's not even R, it's PG-13, and in hindsight I think what happened was we were like begging to be allowed to watch an R rated movie and the host mom just picked it and told us it was rated R, and we totally bought it lol)
Weirdly, I remember this movie being advertised as that impossible car spin that Bruce Willis emerges from. They were really proud of that for some reason and was enough to convince me never to watch it.
Scary Movie / Scary Movie 3 - both excellent and very funny with clear Zucker influence Scary Movie 4 - some funny jokes in this one but less than 1 and 3 Scary Movie 2 - dated in the worst way, but a small handful of decent jokes that people remember (mainly the little hand) Scary Movie 5 - idk I literally could not get through the opening scene because it drags on way too long and isn't funny at all

Fun fact, Scorsese said he likes Scary movie 1.
Adam laughing at how ridiculous the premise is is exactly why the movie works lol every comedy should have that reaction.
xD fr
He probably laughed more recapping it than he did watching it because the movie itself really only has the one joke that they keep repeating over and over and over again.
Exactly lmao, I can only imagine how he'd review something like Harold and Kumar go to white castle. White Chicks is a classic.
@@NarutoManiac300 lmao I love the guantanamo one
Uh, Trump vs the Illuminati has a funny premise, but in reality it was really really boring.
I feel stupid that I never realized that Shorty was played by Marlon Wayan. He is so different from his role in Requiem for a Dream. Great actor.
Retired and Extremely Dangerous, sounds like when my great grandpa decides to get behind the wheel and go for a spin to the Legion
If it came out today, I would cringe (god please don't reboot it)
Napoleon Dynamite is still hilarious to this day IMO
@@ididgt4259 Oh, Napoleon Dynamite held up for sure. Still one of my favorite movies. It was honestly different than the other ones, but I grouped it in there because it was one I was watching a lot at the time
Theres a lot of those 2000s movies that would probably never be remade in today's climate and society, making them time capsules.
How do you not realize RED is a straight up, tongue-in-cheek action ensemble comedy?
The thing about comedy is if it's not funny or enjoyable, then it completely falls flat. And while RED isn't the worst thing out there, it's....very much falls short of even "basically, fine".
he gave white chicks 1/10, critics are r3t@rd3d
@@ShroudedWolf51 Eh, I found it funny and enjoyable. But to each their own.
Finally, the white chicks review we’ve all been begging for
Ranking every blank movie would be a wild video
The LS of Marks
I need an hour of YMS retro reviews in my life
i like this quickie format of casual watches of older movies (or even more recent ones too), awesome video!
Yet, the 'hold on to my strong hand' scene still has me giggling like a 12 year old.
it did but I will never not lose my shit at the "I can't feel my legs" joke in 2
I‘d love to see more reviews of older popular movies. Especially if they tie together with a theme
Malkovich is who helps carry RED.
It could be due to burn after reading and this character feels very much a continuation of that.
20 years late, but still cool
23 to be exact
I love this casually reviewing old movies!! Hope you do more like this! ❤
"Take my hand"- scary movie 2. Still use this whenever I got gross stuff on my hand. Love it
I love that you went back and reviewed some old movies. I wish reviewers would do this more often.
Fun fact: Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are credited as writers, but only because their script for this movie got shelved and never picked-up because it was likely shit.
Kinda yes. The wikipedia page, that referenced some podcast ep with the Wayans says this:
"The screenplay was developed by Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans with Buddy Johnson and Phil Beauman, writers for the sitcom The Wayans Bros. At the same time, Miramax was developing a spoof of Scream scripted by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. Due to a WGA decision, all six writers were credited, despite Friedberg and Seltzer not actually working on the filmed script."
I've always thought that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer were the worst comedy writers ever, but still gave them some respect for helping with the Scary Movie script. Turns out i gave them too much credit, like the credits of that movie did. They are truly the worst. :D
@@Miika_Hakalahti Friedegg and Spritzer are just porn-parody directors without the penetration.
marlon really WAS amazing in requiem, I forgot about that, what a range
Im convinced Terry Crew's entire film career is all owed to White Chicks, people still quote 1000 Miles because of this movie
I hear Doctors have using this movie to test people if they are “retarded”. so if you laugh at the movie, “you’re retarded”
been waiting over a decade for Adam to drop exactly this
White Chicks is a really interesting case of a movie that is completely carried by its voice actors, the movie in its original english form is funny at times but mostly mediocre, while its portuguese dub earned it pretty much universal appraise here in Brazil, the way the lines and delivered and adapted for the ptbr dub was genius and fit perfectly with the vibes of the movie while making it significantly funnier
The latin-american dub too!
Maybe it was improved, but in no way would it be a good movie. No amount of dubbing would fix the frozen mask like faces.
@@dirrdevil we are not paying attention to that, we know the movie is mediocre. You also can't talk about it if you don't know the language or watched the dubbed movie.
3:35 Just seeing the Hide and Seek scene from Scary Movie with no sound and Adum commentating was enough to kill me all over again lmao
Two minutes in. I really like this video so far. Feels nice and casual but still focused and well edited. I hope to see more of this.
I kind of want YMS to go through all the scary movies, because I like watching people suffer.
come on, suffering? like suffering from pure ribcage pain from laughing?
@@HaveanOreshnik Given the general consensus is that the movies get less funny as they go on, yeah if it's just 1 hour+ of unfunny jokes, grossness, sex, and references, yeah I'd say suffering a bit more with each sequel.
the scary movie franchise is like mac'n'cheese for me. its a guilty pleasure. 1-4 i mean. 5 doesnt have brenda or cindy in it so its garbage.
What if all the writers on "White Chicks" came up with their own scenes individually and since all of them could only think of dinner, drinks and dressing up, you end up with 6 different versions of those same scenes in the finished film.
I can’t believe YMS doesn’t get that one of the biggest jokes in the movie is that the guys look nothing like the girls. Lmao like what
Anna Faris in Keanu was my favorite celebrity cameo of all time 😅.
"You were in Scary Movie?"
"Scary Movie 1,2,3 and 4. Not in 5. Too old...." 🤭😂🤣👍👍
8:50 _I'm Gonna Git You Sucka_ is easily the funniest parody film any of the Wayans siblings have touched. Even if you dont have a great wealth of the Exploitation/Blaxploitation genre the film stood as the funniest Blaxploitation film bar none until _Black Dynamite._
I’ve seen better parody movies that make this look like shit. Which it is.
Shaun of the Dead
Tropic Thunder
Black Dynamite
Hot Fuzz
Shrek
This is the End
Airplane
Cabin in the woods
Team America World Police
Borat Movie
The Boys tv show
Young Frankenstein
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python’s Life of Brian
I hope he does actually watch I'm gonna git you sucka. It is peak Wayans comedy, and you are correct. It's one of the best blackspolitation parodies. Along with "Don't be a menace......." the Wayans were very much on fire in the EARLY 90s
Shoutout to you for noting how amazing a dramatic actor Marlon Wayans is; it's a real shame we didn't get more roles like that from him. But also, I'm Gon Git You Sucka is a classic, if you know anything about blaxploitation films it's a real treat. I think you might really like it.
Dis title scared me for a minute 💀
Scary movie 3 is one of my favorite comedies, and is a movie that will always make me laugh. The "yahtzee!" Scene, just perfection
Scary movie 3 is actually probably the funniest one in the series
“Rule 2: don’t fall down” is the Scary Movie quote which still comes to my mind whenever I’m watching a horror all these years later. I have no idea why, it just burrowed itself firmly in there.
I would disagree with Adum on the dinner and drinks criticism. If you think about the setting the characters are in drink and drink makes the most sense. The movie is taking place in the Hamptons during the summer. By that logic there would be daily brunches, dinners, and after parties.
PLEASE! Do more of these! I really enjoy you going over old 2000’s movie
Scary Movie 3 was written by David Zucker I believe. It has a very Airplane vibe.
I love this. Keep doing this.
Therapist: “The plush pig isn’t real, he can’t hurt you.”
The plush pig: (Creepy stare)
Weirdly, I remember this movie being advertised as that impossible car spin that Bruce Willis emerges from. They were really proud of that for some reason and was enough to convince me never to watch it.
man i'll rewatch scary movie 1 today, haven't seen it in like 20 years lol. thanks adum
Scary Movie / Scary Movie 3 - both excellent and very funny with clear Zucker influence
Scary Movie 4 - some funny jokes in this one but less than 1 and 3
Scary Movie 2 - dated in the worst way, but a small handful of decent jokes that people remember (mainly the little hand)
Scary Movie 5 - idk I literally could not get through the opening scene because it drags on way too long and isn't funny at all
You reminded me how often i used to watch scary movie as a kid. Now I really wanna see it again
I love that I can always count on adam to expose me to the real obscure films no one else talks about
i wouldnt consider any of these films as obscure tbh, maybe its an age thing
I hope you don’t think Scary Movie or White Chicks are obscure, or I’m going to feel like the oldest man on the planet.
Spotted the young person.
It's a joke folks
@@MichaelSmith-fq6hzi do believe its sarcasm brotha. Although like myself, its probably the aging slowing down your cognitive processing to be able to figure it
In living color is sooo good. It’s a lot of 90s humor so it can be inaccessible to people who don’t understand early 90s culture but it is great
I need more of these random retro movie Quickies from you! You should do one for Tron and Tron: Legacy!
Scary Movie and White Chicks were definitely two of the DVDs in my house where we’d throw them on over and over again when we weren’t playing outside.
There’s two kinds of YMS reviews:
1. Serious Reviews
2. Gossip time w/ Adum
Cant believe the clown r*pe scene in scary movie 2 didnt bump the movies score up to a 10.
