    I think that the FLT driver was in too much of a rush loading and perhaps not careful enough. Hope your own truck will be ready soon. Cannot believe that people do not take deliveries after 3pm especially as they dont start in the morning for deliveries until 8 to 8.30am. Good to see trucker Jay using your yfoods. Great video. You should let your wagon idle for a few mins after you have finished, if you suddenly cut the engine, you can damage the turbo and because the turbo is cooling down without the engine running, oil cant circluate

    2 bits of advice for what they are worth, 1: pull your curtain forward when loading as tight to the back as a curtain or pole can be damaged in the blink of an eye.
    2: leave ignition on when loading when possible to prevent mudguards dropping onto tyres and damaging mudguards or rubbers.

    So I've still got my hgv but been out of the industry for 20 years. Not much changes, you sit about for ages to get tipped and checked. It's a pain that places won't take deliveries after mid afternoon. Little wonder there are transport and supply chain issues. I had a unhappy copper warn/chastise/inform me about leaving the wagon running. Steamingly it's called vehicle abandonment. Got a telling off. Another ticketed me for no side lights displayed in darkness. Even though it was in a layby set back from the road. Tried to argue the point but I still got a ticket

Or, turning traffic should yield to traffic that keeps going straight ahead, peds and cyclists included? It's interesting to see that UK roadside services really have the same problem as some US truck stops when it comes to drivers parking wherever they want. Here in the US, they love to park at the fuel island and then take 30 minute breaks leaving their truck blocking that set of fuel pumps instead of actually parking in a parking spot.

  • @johngrant5448
    @johngrant5448 2 года назад +2

    Watching this I'm struck by just how inefficient road delivery is. Speaking from the perspective as a Railwayman of twenty years experience, I realise just how much time and effort is wasted. Today you had a very tiny fraction of a load that I would have transported in the past by train. I would have prepared my train, tied on the locomotive done all the safety and brake tests, completed the journey and delivered in under three hours. I would have done the same in reverse having delivered over a thousand tons for each journey, all my driver had to do was drive the loco and follow my instructions. When I went lorry driving there was just an array of delay, arguments, lost loads and hanging about. It's a mess innit?

    • @andrewcook334
      @andrewcook334 2 года назад

      Your train however would not have got the deliveries from the sawmill to the end user. A lorry would have had to take the timber to the nearest goods yard, it would the have been transported to a marshalling yard, then to another marshalling yard, then to the nearest goods yard to the destination and finally back on a lorry. More like 3 days than the 3 hours you claim.
      Trains work fine for full loads between rail terminals but are useless for small drops as in this instance

    • @johngrant5448
      @johngrant5448 2 года назад

      @@andrewcook334 You see, we can't do anything about your poor education or your boundless lack of intelligence. You wouldn't even know what facilities we had because no member of the public ever saw what was there. You wouldn't ever realise that we carried ALL the Royal Mail, That many small as well as very large businesses had their own sidings, that we had our own home delivery parcel business, that the railway had its own lorries and buses. They were there but the public never noticed what was right in front of them. Even all that time ago a single parcel could arrive at a distant destination and the customer would be given a time of arrival in case they wanted to pick it up from our parcel office. Every passenger train carried parcels, mail, and goods, we had a brake van to carry all this stuff.

    • @andrewcook334
      @andrewcook334 2 года назад +1

      @@johngrant5448 I remember it well, the reason the railways lost general freight was that it took at least 3 days door to door for anything other than a parcel or a select few fresh produce trains. Locally we used to grow a lot of flowers and fruit, quite a bit went to the Manchester markets. A train left Ely each afternoon at 4pm. If you missed the train the produce went by road instead leaving far later in the evening. Eventually the growers thought, lets just use the lorries all the way, its quicker and cheaper. The person with the poor education is not me. I also remember the wonderful Red star parcel system where we had to drive the parcel to the station and our client had to go to the destination station to collect it. DPD etc do the same job door to door for far less.
      Businesses only used the railways as they had no other choice, why do you think it moved to the roads ? It wasn't because the roads were slower and more expensive. Drivers such as Luke do more in a day than BR workers used to do in a week.

      @@lukecinahgv I think the general consensus at the moment is that "junctions" includes roundabouts, and therefore the cyclist should have had priority; however, as you said, he didn't attempt to move, and there's also a bit of "look out for each other and sort it out between yourselves" in the new rules.
      Also, the bit in the video where the cyclist on the track on the left "didn't know you were turning left" - TBH, he probably had a strong suspicion that you were turning left just through peripheral vision and hearing the sound of your engine. Truck engines are not quiet, and a truck continuing down the road would be unlikely to be slowing down. You handled it correctly, though.
