Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

@@nikhilkurup5 oof
But there's the problema, you see: we don't need a backstory for the bell. It is, like the entire series, deeply unecessary.
By giving Hector his signature bell, Lalo ensured Gus’ death without even knowing it
Didn’t even think about that man. Nice catch.
The Salamancas enjoying evil memories while preparing the bell. Meanwhile the 3rd party in this death is probably off arguing with his boss that he just runs a cash register.

I like the scene at the nursing home when Lalo dumps out half a Hectors juice and replaces it with what I assume to be tequila… he actually smiles before leaning in for a sip. Total gangster
That's true. I can see that only on lalo not the others
Imagine if Lalo gave Hector Stephen Hawking's wheelchair.
I love Lalo and I love the fact the bell got a back story rather than being just a random bell. It's also a little bit poetic that the bell was saved from a fire to be used for an explosion.
It's weird how Walter owes Lalo a thank you but he never met the man.

Powerful scene. Despite the unhinged evil behind these men, when Lalo walks in- mortified at his loved one's predicament, and how he quickly turns it around to stay positive in front of Hector, it's just so sympathetic.
Lalo: "Remember when you burned that place down?" Aaaaand, now it's gone again lol.
@Raylan Givens and giving him a souvenir of his previous power, while twisted and monstrous, seems to come from a place of love.
It’s like giving your dad a picture of him climbing a mountain you got framed.
And little did he know that the person next to him is the one responsible for Hector’s condition!
The acting by each of these actors is INSAAANE, added with the writing, the cinematography, the fact that this ring that is so vital to the whole Breaking Bad story, got such an intense and dark origin story.. this kind of show does not get made often. Legendary.
Well put. One could say the bell is the most important item in BrBa.
If only Lalo knew that Gus’ demise would come through this bell…with the help of a chemistry teacher.

Better Call Saul is probably my favorite prequel of all time. The way they develop characters into the iconic ones you know in Breaking Bad is GREAT. They all have their own stories. They aren't just steps to lead to the thing you know. I remember forgetting Hector becomes the man with the bell after a while. Insane that it was able to do that.
Agree. Even small character like crazy-8 have a interesting but still logical development. Now we know why he 'crazy' in BB
I know they are all horrible people, but seeing the Salamancas express their care for each other is a bit heartwarming in a way. Hector hates everyone except for the other Salamancas, and Lalo is a charasmatic sociopath but does have a soft spot for his family. If Hector wasn't such a horrorible excuse of a human being, I would have felt bad for him every time he lost one of his family. As it stands though, I cant exactly express empathy for someone who wouldn't feel the same way of someone else.
They all really do love each other. Tuco even kissed Don Hector on the forehead in one scene haha.
When Lalo left Tio Hector for the last time (before returning to Mexico), you could see him pause and look back at his uncle with sadness and pity. His last words to him were that he loves him. It's oddly sweet and heartbreaking that such cruel monsters of men had such a human connection.

The little smile (or the best he could make of one) on Hector’s face when he talks to him, you can tell he was always Hector’s favorite nephew.
Tuco was a nutcase, the twins were… the twins, Lalo always knew how to lighten the mood and cheer up his uncle and knew him well enough that he’d appreciate that bell. He took Hector back to one his happier memories before presenting it to him to make the experience of getting a simple bell that much more enjoyable for him.

Omg, the professor is like nacho's dad. Hearing this story nacho must be relieved he took care of hector before things went wrong for his dad.
That’s exactly what Nacho was thinking the whole time. His dad would of done exactly what that professor did and he’s just imagining it happening to his father
The way Lalo & Hector talks about torturing the hotel manager for such petty reasons make me believe that fate awaited Nacho' dad if Hector didn't got his stroke
There definitely feels like that kind of inferred parallel, especially with Nacho stood there hearing upon how someone- much the same as his father, turned down Hector's negotiations. You'll note how Lalo even mentions the burning smell of 'horsehair stuffing and leather'...akin to Manuel Varga's upholstery business...
@@Hysteria98 you're so right
This would be such a heartwarming moment in any other show if it weren't for the fact that Hector and Lalo were such monsters.
I love how Lalo was able to get revenge on Gus from beyond the grave by giving Hector that bell
The bell was used in hotel service before being in a fire and stored for years, and it still sounded crisp and clear. Just a few more years, and Hector wore it down to where the bell made a dull sound. It shows just how commanding Hector was regardless of his physical condition.
And also sound pretty good, even with a rubber band wrapped around it. Hmm…
The bell didn’t sound like that because it was worn down. It sounded like that because it had been rigged to connect to the bomb.
The bell’s sound was dampened only in its last scene.
Ya know, if they weren't utter psychos, Gus Fring would be a great guy to have as an employer, and Lalo Salamanca would be a great guy to have as a friend.

Lalo was the most intelligent, calculating and patient of all the Salamanca's
Hector was vicious, vengeful, and violent. Tuco was fár worse even. The Twins díd follow orders and were very skilled hitmen, yet, being Salamanca's they were raised to be proud of their Family.
Lalo was the only one of them that was able to succeed Hector as the Head of the Salamanca Family in the Cartel.
Eladio liked him a lót, and Lalo knew how to play Eladio's ego and greed to get him on his side, unlike Hector, though there has to be a very big backstory to Hector and Eladio's relation.
This is when the bell became the one who dings
"You think I'm in dinger?"
"I am the one who dings!"
The more you know about Hector, the more you feel he deserved every bit of what he got from Gus.
And vice-versa, with how Gus treated Nacho and threatened his father.
No matter what happens to lalo, A piece of him will be in that bell and will be a part of the revenge on Gus fring
Lalo got his revenge with the bell
Lalo may have not known it but that bell ensured he defeated Gus in the long run.
If they wanted to keep the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul world going with another spinoff I think Lalo would be the only one capable of pulling it off. Please let this happen.
I think a 2nd Spinoff, showcasing the rise of the Juarez Cartel titled "Salamanca", could be a very good story.
Not just how Don Eladio rose to power as Head of this powerful Cartel, but showcasing how Eladio opportunisticly SEIZED the moment, where it actually was the Salamanca's that búilt the empire!
The main plot being Don Hector, acting like the Muscle of this dangerous cooperation: eliminating enemy's all around, táking the heat, and even have his relatives taken out in acts of revenge and retribution. For instance, it was néver mentioned if Hector had a family of his own(most likely, brutally murdered in a retribution?), nor the family he came from: Tuco, Lalo, Marco and Lionel were his COUSINS! Meaning Hector had a brother: the fáther to those cousins..perhaps more then 1 brother even: All taken out in gruesome acts of revenge by the Juarez' Cartel's enemy's and competitors? ..and ofcourse the story of 'the Bell', as an Easter-Egg.
Could evne be that Hector's (older?)brother actually was the leader of the Salamanca Family, but was taken out by another powerful rival, causing Hector to take his place?
Perhaps this could be written in the story that Hector júst had taken over the role of Don HEctor Salamanca: the leader of the family, at the moment where the Juarez Cartel's enemy's were vanquished, causing this Cartel to completely consolidate their position in Juarez as thé dominant Crime Organisation?
And as a very opportunistic detail: Since Hector 'just was promoted to Leader of the Salamancas'. Eladio abusing that sudden turn of events in making Hector a Don at his table,....the table where Eladio was the Don of the entire Cartel?
Introductions to every member of the Juarez Cartel. Every single name that Gus named to Hector when he showed him Eladio's necklace. Every role they played: Distribution from the south through Juarez, to the USA. Bolsa as the 'political' trigger, keeping everyone safe from proscecutions, Eladio himself having Ministers and Judges in his pocket(thanks to Hector's blackmailing, kidnapping, threats, and grotesque murders and tortures of key figures in the System?).
And as an importand plotline: How Gustavo Fring got connected with the Cartel, why Hector hated him! Hector ínsisting to Eladio that Fring was to be disposed of, yet Eladio knowing that Fring was a genius in distributions and front/cover-businesses: Eladio knew he needed Fring to make enormous profits! Al lthe other Dons put in their respective share, but nóne made as much profit as Gustavo! Driven bij Greed, Eladio knew he had to keep Gustavo on a leash...as well as Hector: Pitting them against eachother, to maximise his profit?
@@thegreenreaper6660 I think the beauty of this show is how it closes the loops we didn't even know were there, giving us all the lessons these charscters were going to give. Lalo died because he lived in a world of power and cruelty and was finally confronted with someone of comparable intelligence and greater patience. Mike was what Walter lied to himself about being, sinking into the filth for his family, but losing everything any way because you can't be a good man in that world and live. Jimmy was revived because he accepted responsibility for his actions, and would have lost his chance to reconcile with Kim if he had continued to skirt punishment.
The Salemanca's died off, piece by piece, because of their entrenchment in that life. We saw each loop closed and we know why. Their greed, their entitlement, and their callous disregard for anyone outside their family is what set the stage for the world to reciprocate and eliminate them.
That's kind of the whole theme of the universe, you either get killed, get out, or do the time.
The only character from the universe who's still alive is Mike's daughter in law Stacey. Mike took great pains to keep her uninvolved, so the only thing involving her I'd like to see is a 20 minute episode of her getting a promotion and Kaylee getting into private school. It wouldn't be realistic for her to willingly step into the criminal experience, but maybe if something from the past drew her in a series about her trying to get out could work. Every other character from the show got in of their own accord, so seeing someone sucked in unwillingly and how they deal with that would allow Gilligan to expand upon his theme on the consequences of criminality. You kind of got that with Nacho and his father though, so it would have to be a great premise for them to go forward. Maybe a previously unknown, fastidious Salemanca relative uncovers Mike's involvement in the Salemanca's woes and targets Stacey because of their relationship.
Though overall I think the loop is pretty well closed.
One of the best scenes in the show
