Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

Yup! I think that’s a skill that very few actors possess. Dalton can also do the facial transition effortlessly of a joyful smile to pure menace in the eyes. An example is when he says to Jimmy, “tell me….again.” Gandolfini and Hackman were two of the best to do that move and I think Dalton does it just as well.

He is acting as a double agent with Gus and he's worried he will give it out by some small mistake . That's why he is super self-aware around Lalo . Hector was the wolf that comes dressed as a wolf. His intentions are clear as a bell since he wears his emotions on his sleeve, and he doesn't mince words. It is easy to fear someone who is so outwardly menacing since you can see him coming a mile away. However, Lalo is like Hannibal Lecter. He is charming, disciplined, compliments you, makes you think you can trust him and that "it's all good," all while cleverly manipulating you into doing exactly what he wants, or else. Tony Dalton masterfully created an unpredictable character by pulling positive and negative facial expressions at the same time, dousing them with sarcasm, menace and humour. For example, when sizing up other people, he often squints his eyes (with virtually no blinking) instead of showing a duchenne smile, or he'll appear hostile whilst simultaneously raising his eyebrows to look "sad" or innocent. This incongruous emotion is intentionally unsettling and very fitting for a psychopathic character. Rarely does it look so effortless on screen.

Yes, but don't forget that Gus is the most dangerous when he seems to be cornered. That's his strategy: like Russia's scorched earth, he too lets his enemy wound him first, letting them invade his territory only to suddenly deliver the fatal blow from the hinterland. This is how he dealt with the Twins, Bolsa, the Cartel, Arturo and this is how he got to Lalo too. He makes them think they have the upper hand and waits patiently for his turn and then he suddenly crushes his enemies with a single blow. No wonder that Lalo lost his gleeful smile by the last episode. Only then did he realize that his enemy is just as ruthless and marked for death as he himself.

Lalo has to be one of the most intriguing characters on TV. We know Gus is an invincible powerhouse in BrBa still in BCS, there's this Lalo guy is fully capable of destroying him. But he wasn't even talked about by the cartel and Gus on BrBa so we know he has been dealt with and left far behind by that time. The question is, what DID happen to him! So this is probably a bit speculative, but I think that Lalo is genuinely puzzled about why Gus saved Hector's life. His first tack is to see whether Gus is fishing for an alliance between them, but since that's obviously not true, Lalo knows he's aiming even higher. So he hits home with, "you would be crazy to go against Eladio," which actually wipes the smile from Gus' face.
I like this scene, because you see that this scenario is Gus' worst nightmare. Hector -- who can be manipulated -- is removed from the picture, and replaced with Lalo -- who absolutely cannot.
