Starting my 4th year mowing with my 40 volt self propelled 20” Ryobi. And it has been great no problems with mower and battery. I mow just a 1/4 acre and been so happy with this mower.

So sad to hear about the loss of Konaman. As a father of a young child myself, it breaks my heart to hear when things like this happen. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. You did a great thing at the end for him.
I have revision B of the first gen Ryobi 40v 20” mower built by Homelite. It’s one of those 20” mowers with a 19.5” blades on it. It is push only and entirely plastic which is good for me because I have to carry it through my house and folded down I can do that since it’s not too heavy. Also because of the light weight I feel a self propelled version of it would be entirely unnecessary and a waste of electrons. I have a small yard and with the original 5AH battery that it came with I can get multiple mows before having to recharge. Yes the blade can cut through the plastic deck if you run it into things and flex the deck such that it comes into contact with the blade but honestly I find that to not be an issue for me. Honestly the single biggest let down was it’s no lift “optimized for cordless” blade. It was much more likely to push tall grass over then cut it and it was pretty bad at bagging too. I modified and installed an Ego 20” high lift blade which just so happens to be the exact same dimensions in terms of length, width, and height. My only regret was waiting so long to do this. It made it into a completely different mower. Much better bagging, no more skips, great lift, hell on the two lowest settings the blade sucks the mower to the ground so hard that it actually becomes difficult to push. In my experience the battery life was completely unaffected and amazingly it doesn’t rev up nearly as often in the thick grass as it did with the stock blade. I’m assuming it’s because the Ego blade is heavier and thus carries more inertia but I may be wrong. I sharpened the stock blade many times and sharpened the Ego blade before installing. Absolutely phenomenal upgrade, can’t say enough good things about it except for “it cuts the grass real nice like!”

Just got mine. I got the Whisper series, but "push" only (no power wheels). It's fantastic. The cut is great. Did my whole yard on one battery (although the grass was pretty short, I had just cut it last week). My yard is 100% flat, so I saved a few bucks by not getting self-propelled. The mulch door works sweet. And dam, this thing is quiet.

I finally saw the new Milwaukee M18 mower in person :) I went to Home Depot to pick up some bi-fold pantry doors for Mother's Day, and there it was. It looks great in person! Sadly, I wasn't able to mess around with it, because the area was fenced off while they were doing some stocking with their forklift :P Hopefully I can get my hands on it the next time I visit the store ;)
And I am sorry to hear about the loss of your subscriber! Back when I was big into automotive forums, etc., it was very depressing when one of our fellow forum members passed away. Many of them felt like family. And because of the nature of the internet, sometimes we didn't find out that they had passed for a long time :(

Personally, think all battery mowers should have all wheel dive and self propelled features, like, who wants a mower that isn’t self propelled, especially when ya have some “hills” and obstacles in your yard.
    Have a good one✌🏻

Clint, ya should have multi ones in yard for testing mowers. A section of weeds/grass, section that wet down with hose (as ppl mow when downpour or just after), “normal”, and a misc sections. Think would be cool to see just how the mowers stack up w/ your scale w/ different “grass” conditions.
Really liked the beginning w/ burning “power” scale….nice touch!
Can’t for next mower vid and what ya got, as keep one upping yourself, and now I’m awaiting the next😁

I agree with your assessment. Ryobi had a huge price increase in 2022. I bought my top of the line ryobi 21" 40v push mower for 499 and even got a 10% military discount. That same mower is now 799. No way I would have spend that on this mower. Not sure how they justify it.

Here is the million dollar question. Does the Ryobi create enough lift and vacuum to properly cut tall fescue with the deck raised all the way up? I can tell you from experience that the EGO brand mowers do not lift and cut tall fescue properly unless the deck is on the 4 setting. 4 is way to short for fescue.

Will someone please creat a video comparing a similarly priced gas mower to one of these premium electric mowers. I am totally sold on the idea of the simplicity of electric powered lawn tools for the ease of use. No gas, no oil changes, no tune spark plugs, no air filter, no pull rope, no fumes and less noise. At $800 for the Ryobi the use of hard plastics seems like a longevity and durability issue. If you spent the same $800 on a Honda gas mower I honestly think it could easily last the average homeowner a lifetime if taken care of. What is the lifespan of an $800 electric mower? The cut quality of the Ryobi looks excellent. How does it compare to an $800 gas mower. Please do a side by side break down and comparison of gas vs electric. That would be awesome!! Thanks for the great videos. Keep up the good work.

Any company that is going to charge a premium price for a mower like that needs to sell it with their top and batteries. I agree they should sell it with two 12 amp hour batteries instead of two six and power batteries.
Overall I think all battery powered mowers are overpriced especially when the batteries are only going to last you slightly over 5 years if you're lucky. Even worse the batteries cost as much as a brand new gas powered mower which will last you 20 to 30 years if you take care of it.

I have the older self propelled mower, and I like it a lot for the most part. Quickly realized I didn't need the self propelled part after I got it due to how much lighter the mower was compared to a gas mower. I paid $329 on sale 2 yrs ago. The build quality kinda sucks because the connection between the handle to the mower body isn't rigid enough. Thats really the only issue I have with it, but I wouldn't pay $800 or even $600 for a mower.

  • @tmhunter7
    @tmhunter7 2 года назад +2

The blade motor shafts extend down beyond the base of the mowers in the 21" models, at least I know they do in the non AWD models. This is a big issue when you have to go over a hump, such as from grass to sidewalk, and I've it bottom out on the shaft in this very situation. A bit disappointed with this oversight. I assume this is the same with the new AWD models?

Ive used the EGO in-person and I honestly think it’s overhyped. Sure the EGO’s handles are a bit sturdier but that’s about it. At $799 if you go with EGO you’re losing out on all wheel drive, 3-1 cutting handle, lifetime deck warranty, and a rapid charger included. Plus it’s ridiculous that the only difference between Ego’s 699 mower and the 799 is the battery Ah. I think Ryobi is showing way more innovation in their line-up and their HP stuff is as good or even better than EGO’s.

Let's talk about price. I'm looking at these mowers, if you buy one (rear wheel s/p) dual blade they sell for about $550 ... now if you add an extra battery (7.5 amp) the money works out to be the same, so price wise it's a draw. Like you, I prefer the "bail lever" over the finger switch ... bottom line, I'd buy the non-awd (bail lever for s/p) model cross-cut an buy the extra battery, maybe the new 12 amp 40 volt for the capacity (higher amp) that the mower would like.

  • @americanrambler4972

FLIP FLOPS...LOL!!!!!😛😛😛😛🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 A Troy built is 319 dollars on Home Depot's website. That is a 480 dollar difference. 480 dollars is a lot of gas for a lawn mower. 40 volt 6 amp battery is 199 dollars. Do you think that Ryobi batteries are going to change or be around in 20 years. I can't mow my rock yard and so. LOL!! Ridgid Ron

I like the gimmicky stuff they put on the battery equipment like head lights!!! To mow your lawn at night, really who does that??? Back when I was a kid I used to do pranks and go in some people's unlocked shed and start their lawn mowers in their backyard at like 2AM, but in my case it was a joke, it probably wasn't funny for them but it was for me and my friends when the neighbors lights came on and they were wondering who's the idiot who mows his lawn at night, the best was when the owner came out wondering the same thing while realizing that it was his mower making the noise!

Your grass is not a test bed for an electric mower other than for your wanting to buy a mower for yourself.
Thick tall fescue is a test. I used to run a Deere rider and purchased an Ego21” mower. There’s no way I can single pass mulch my lawn unless I cut twice a week. There’s no way that Ryobi mower could do the job either.
