Please don't come at me RUclips comments section but I have only used (bought my first home in 2017) all Ryobi battery operated products, which is the string trimmer (which is not lightweight), mower, edger attachment, and blower and I have the best lawn on the block. All the products work like they are brand new. I love the fact that I can get started outside and finish quickly. Also I am very pleased with the lawn results meaning the way the grass looks. How many batteries? I use 1 battery per mow but I own 3 batteries. The property square footage is 5,200. Also I agree with everything you said in the video. Thanks! 13:21 off topic I love your neighbors emerald green arborvitae to the right of the house. They are beautiful. For the winter, I have the Ryobi Snow Shovel 40-V Cordless Electric Attachment which throws the snow many feet in the air like something out of a movie. That tool is very impressive. I had fun using it last winter. Also this winter I used my ryobi blower to get all the snow off my car.
Nice to see a very open minded review, and genuine surprise at the power, rather than just a commercial. I agree, the competition will make everybody better. Thank you for taking the time! 👍👍👍
So glad you finally got to test the Brushless 40v! I remember your old review of the non-brushless, and I couldn't wait for you to get this one in your hands. I knew that your review would be very different. I am a huge fan of this series. Overall, I would never go back to a gas trimmer after getting this one. I let my neighbor borrow it once, he came back with mine and showed me that he had gone to Home Depot and bought one for himself after one time of using this. And he was a full-on handyman, gas power all the way fireman (and you know how set in ways they can be, jk jk I kid). On level 2, I believe it was stronger than my (granted cheap starter homeowner Bolen) gas weed wacker. On your leaf comment, for me personally, It wasn't strong enough to do the leaves, but I also get a lot of leaves on my property, so take that as it is. I preferred to use my plugin actually, but that was because I would be out there for 2 hours after a big leaf falling. Another thing to note is that it's part of Expand-It so you can throw on the leaf blower attachment, instead of buying the stand-alone (get them to send you some Expand-It's for the next review because I'd love to hear how they are haha, I didn't like the blower attachment). I've always wanted a reason to buy the sweeper, but haven't found one yet. However, I would love a review on the pruner, brush cutter, and hedge trimmers. At $69 each, that can add up to huge savings if you need all of them. Glad to see you reviewed the edger and that it's good, that will likely be my next investment. Great reviews, keep them coming! Sorry for the long comment, got excited when I saw you were reviewing this!
I got this mower recently. I've gone thru a couple older ryobi's mowers since switching to electric. I almost went with an ego mower but I pulled the trigger on this one since I already have another older model with a battery so now I have three batteries so I can go all day by charging one while I got two charged. I like that you dont need an annoying mulch plug anymore and I like the battery light indicator addition. The one thing I dont like that I just can get over is the thumb levers. It just doesn't have a good feel and seems flimsy but I can live with it. Overall it's a beast of a mower... I would like to compare it side by side with Ego's best mower.
I have the trimmer from about six years ago. Just bought the whisper blower with turbo, and have been seriously considering buying the mower now. Even though my Honda gas power is only five years old. ♥️😇🥰
Great review. Lawn Update: Since firing Truegreen last fall, after 10 years, my lawn has never looked so good after buying your cool season lawn plan, and products! Still going to scalp my lawn and reseed this fall… can’t wait!
Ayy, thanks for mentioning that you're testing the mulching functionality, as well as recommending the bagging on overgrown lawns. Definitely more fair and helpful to people who might not know these things. Helps avoid confusion for any newbies watching the review. Great job.
I currently use a gas Honda mower and runs amazing, however, now that battery mowers like this one are getting better and better, I'm seriously considering selling the Honda, and switching over to the battery mowers. There are so many pros and no cons really to going with Battery powered mower. Nice video.
Like your reviews. Lots of info! I have the same mower and agree with your assessment for the most part. My minor complaints are: The speed switch is too loose and gets bumped often in tight areas while making turns There should be some detents on the switch to keep it in place or change the location. Also when turning sometimes if your hand happens to release some pressure on the handlebar the unit turns off and you have to restart the mower. The handle grip switch design has a very short throw so that even a slight release of pressure can shut the mower off. I end up wrapping a velcro tie-strap around it to keep it running. I'm also spoiled by Toro's personal pace system where the mower just goes as fast as you walk, so you don't have to change a speed switch setting when going around trees, etc. Don't like having to push a (delayed) switch paddle to propel the mower. I do like the fact that they put ball bearing wheels on this mower...that's better than Toro Recycler's non-bearing front wheels. Don't like the non-smooth underside of the deck where grass clippings can get stuck. I have a thick tall turf fescue lawn (5250 sq. ft.) and cut twice a week but I cannot mulch it on one 6aH battery. I get about 3/4 before having to switch over to the second battery, but I have a lot of sculpted areas and have to make many turns so my mowing is probably less efficient. That's my $0.02...anyway I have sub'd to your channel...good job!
Great video! I'm a little biased I'm a 18-year Home Depot associate. I have been all electric for about a year and a half now. I have last year's mower and blower. I also have their leaf vacuum / mulcher. I live in Ohio I have four silver maples on one section of my property and the leaves get pretty out of control. In my opinion the blower does excellent job of corraling them on to the lawn and then I use the mower to mulch them up. I agree the only thing I would change would be that darn mulch plug. I also have The leaf vac / mulcher gets those hard to reach areas around my hot tub. I bought the 21-in snowblower . I had a chance to play with it a little bit. Can't wait to give it a good work out. Thanks again for your great unbiased video.
I’ve switched over from gas to battery and I’m glad I did… I have a line of Ego products. Battery powered tools are maintenance free. No more clogged carburetor! Oh, and I did spray paint my wheels black for a meaner look.
Ryobi makes defective 40v battery systems. If it sits in thr charger a bit incorrectly, and if you don't check that it is charging, it will discharge the batteries in days or in a week to completely flat cells that are destroyed. Somehow the BMS system completely discharges the cells. I disassembled the pack and the cells had zero voltage (not just the pack) so the cells are destroyed after just a week sitting on the charger in error mode. Expensive design error.
Ive had mine for 2 years now and the mower has electrical issues and randomly shuts down. Found a wire dangling from the drive motor the other day. I also have those other tools. The trimmer has been the only tool without issues. The blower works great but its handle has never worked correctly and held position it was set on. Replaced it twice and all have had the same issue. Trying to get anything fix under warranty is a royal pain.
I own all of these items except the edger. I just finished my 2nd season with all of this equipment and the only downfall is the batteries. They all started to degrade significantly and would not last near as long as they used to so I contacted Ryobi and they sent me (at no charge) 2 x 6ahHP batteries and 2 x 4ahHP batteries. I am not an idiot and know this will happen eventually, but not after 1-1/2 years? The problem with these batteries is they don't like it too hot or too cold and also they tend to overheat every so often. Normally I mow every 3 days or so so my grass never gets too high, but every so often like going on vacation it get high so the mower revs up which will cause it to overheat. The trimmer has never overheated a battery, but I rarely ever run it full blast. The blower has the turbo button which revs up the motor which causes the battery to overheat eventually which again will cause them to degrade prematurely. After the warranty is over with the batteries and they die I will likely go to an EGO battery set up. Not because I don't love the Ryobi mower, trimmer and blower, but because of the batteries. EGO batteries are the best on the market and have a 5 year warranty versus a 3 year like Ryobi. Reason they can offer 5 versus 3 years? Their batteries are designed to stay cooler and run cooler, plus they charge much faster than the Ryobi batteries. I am sure there are a bunch of smart guys working at Ryobi, but in my opinion they messed on the batteries which could have made Ryobi equal to or better than EGO. Even the new "whisper" series mower has the same crappy batteries. Engineers at Ryobi are asleep at the wheel for sure.
I bought this exact mower in spring and returned it.... I soooo wanted it to work for all the sexy reasons mentioned in this review. My problem was two fold; the first I knew going in and the second was the primary reason for returning it. 1. The batteries are not cheap. I'll be buying a new one every 3-4 years if not sooner. That adds up very fast when gas mowers seem to last 15+ years. I knew this going in. 2. The mower is severely lacking sucking power. This is the reason I returned it. It struggled with leaves, small twigs and thick grass. Battery powered mowers have come a long way but will still struggle with this. One may argue that you shouldn't let a lawn get tall... or rake leaves before using the mower. At the end of the day I hear it but would rather pay the same or less for a mower that CAN do these out of the box. I really wanted this to work and was heart broken when it failed. Home Depot was really great about the return. No questions asked even though I had used it 3 times.
The issue I've had with the edger is that the plastic shield keeps getting clogged up with mud. Maybe I'm asking too much of it and maybe that problem would exist regardless of the edger I use? But having to stop every 30-60 seconds to clear the thing out feels like it could be simplified without having to dig my fingers into the blade guard lol...
Ok, I we will see. I ordered Ryobi's 2 gal battery sprayer. Not part of the 40v line, but banking on them upping their lawn care game. Good price compared to 4 gal backpack options.
How many years do you think the batteries will last ??? I love the 40 v expand it trimmer and edger system. The edging does an awesome , I couldn’t edge without it. Side note. If you have a strong lightning Storm , un plug the charger and battery.
Did you think the Ryobi mower striped well? I feel like even on the 3 inch setting that my lawn didn’t appear to have the same quality stripes as my personal pace Toro 22”. Let me know what you thought!
Excellent review! I have the trimmer and it does an excellent job. I did buy one of their backpack sprayers and it leaked badly enough to soak my back. So Im on the fence with the build quality.
First Aussie 😁. Justin, another great honest review video , how did the battery powered whippersnipper do out on the heavier stuff on the property? 😎👍👍
Thank you for the review. I've owned the Ryobi electric 21" crosscut/self-propelled for a year now and it is fantastic. Sometimes the cuts are randomly uneven and I need to go over it twice but I am uncertain if that is the rpm shifting or user error. Being this is my first mower ever, would the Timemaster be considered an upgrade?
Yea the time master would definitely be an upgrade for almost any residential push/self propel mower. But if you’re wanting battery powered, the Ryobi and the toro are top of the line in my opinion
Love your channel So they have this mower as a tool only I have an older 20” ryobi back when 4ah was the biggest 40v they made. I have a thicker grass that that mower struggles with. Do I go with the upgrade ryobi mower for $600 Or go to the 60v Toro Super recycler for $800
Just subscribed. I watched the Ryobi push mower vid (this one). What's your view on Zero Turns? As I recall, Ryobi used car batteries in theirs. EGO, uses 56v Lithium. I'm leaning towards Ego, ZT, Blower, Push. EGO ZT uses replaceable Li ion.Ion. Any plans to review. Tx!
Been using ryobi for years one thing i dont like about this brand your using and the current brand i have is the lights, dont really use them and i dont like they draw power when they are on. I think on and off switch would been good to add onto it
I am debating whether I should go ego or Ryobi with the mower. Seems like I can’t go wrong with either. I have a Ryobi gen 1, but only have one battery. The rest like the trimmer and blower are ego brands, so you can sort of see why I am struggling to choose.
Great review. Ryobi has been putting new tools and products out at a rapid pace. I wish Milwaukee would get into the mower game and go all in on lawn care. Love the Milwaukee battery.
@@TheLawnWhisperer Oh ok cool! I was worried because im about to buy this mower from somebody for 200 bucks but the green piece and the plastic piece aren't attached together, might i ask what website you bought the piece from?
With all the sirens going off in the background @9:39, I expected you to drop the camera and run off screen to slide down a pole somewhere...LoL. But seriously, are you ready to finally donate that EGO blower I've been asking you about? ;) Also, does a faster mower speed also increase the blade speed?
No it does not. The blade speed is not controllable however it speeds up on its own if it senses resistance with thicker grass. It slows down once through the thicker material.
I absolutely love my ryobi mower. It does a great job. I actually bought the leaf blower and snowblower which also does a great job. Take a look at my lawn on Instagram Luciano1128 to see the results.
I've gone thru Honda and Toro.... Honda didn't last long and Toro actually did good for while I guess. I just prefer electric now. It's way less hassle to not deal with gas, oil, spark plug issues, etc anymore. Ryobi is hit or miss tbh... mowers are good.
I consider this a public service announcement. The 2021 Ryobi 40v HP cross cut mower is garbage. I bought mine just a couple of days ago at Home Depot for $549. I really wanted to like this mower because it had the features I wanted and it was not the most expensive in its class. This mower claims to cut for about 75 minutes. Well, it doesn't cut for more than 10 minutes. 3/4 of an acre is a lie. The batteries run down to two led indicators and then will not power on. I am not cutting more than 2-3 inches tall fescue grass. In fact I was going back over an area I had previously cut and it shuts down. I ran without using the self-propelled function. It wouldn't even start on 2 bars. Returned it to Home Depot today. The service desk told me that this is currently the most returned mower they sell. Expect a discontinued sale of this mower.
I love Ryobi as a homeowner. My garage is filled with their products. The new 40V mower is killer.

If you already have the ego blower and trimmer I would stick with ego. If you were starting from scratch I would say go Ryobi
Nice hat! I got the same one ;)
Nice video!
Did you watch it all already Frank?!
@@TheLawnWhisperer are you implying that had he watched the whole video he wouldn't have come to this conclusion?
@@Brettsgrasscapades obviously!!!!
Great review. Ryobi has been putting new tools and products out at a rapid pace. I wish Milwaukee would get into the mower game and go all in on lawn care. Love the Milwaukee battery.
Same ownership, chervon Corp
Sorry wrong info
TTI makes ryobi and milwaukee.
Chevon makes ego, skil, kobalt...
Wow if I let my St Auggy lawn go 11 days this time of the year it's going to be over a foot tall easy
I love my battery powered lawnmower but mine has only one blade and mine takes one battery and it a 40v
I’m 72..I really wanted this to work for me but the batteries are bad..it’s going back to Home Depot next week.
Dang sorry to hear that!
Edging and blowing 😏
I think we time traveled back a few months before the beds were fixed up.
8:10 how good is this mower near fence and corner? Can u pls include video without time-lapse
What do you mean?
So if I was in the market for new mower should I pick this one or the Toro?
Either Toro or Makita.
is there any way to reattach the green plastic piece on the top if you break it off?
I don’t think so. I had to get a new one
@@TheLawnWhisperer a whole new mower or new top?
@@HyperGaming-qu1tm a new green top piece
@@TheLawnWhisperer Oh ok cool! I was worried because im about to buy this mower from somebody for 200 bucks but the green piece and the plastic piece aren't attached together, might i ask what website you bought the piece from?
If it just runs off one battery why haul the other one around on it?
Because it’s easier to flip that red key to the other battery than it is to walk back to the garage and get another battery… 🤷🏻♂️
If you still want steel decks go with Greenworks.
Hart's headlight only comes on at night!
Third. Was looking forward to this.
You ditching Ego or is this one going to the other neighbor who didn’t get the Kobalt?
With all the sirens going off in the background @9:39, I expected you to drop the camera and run off screen to slide down a pole somewhere...LoL. But seriously, are you ready to finally donate that EGO blower I've been asking you about? ;) Also, does a faster mower speed also increase the blade speed?
No it does not. The blade speed is not controllable however it speeds up on its own if it senses resistance with thicker grass. It slows down once through the thicker material.
So is that an commercial mower?
No it’s their newest residential model
Ok so do they have an commercial mower?
@@luckjoy69 I don’t believe so but I could be wrong
Ryobi has a line of battery operated rider and zero turn mowers. Check out the website.. 😉
@@truittbodie249 they’re not commercial mowers though
I had a 1g electric sprayer and it literally disintegrated in my hands. Lasted all of 1 yr.
Second
X gonna give it to ya! 🤣🤣
Dead trimmer before 1st season, dead charger mid second season, dead battery, lonely leafblower not putting one more cent into that weak equipment.
Sounds like a power wheel 🤣
Is this sponsored?
No
I absolutely love my ryobi mower. It does a great job. I actually bought the leaf blower and snowblower which also does a great job. Take a look at my lawn on Instagram Luciano1128 to see the results.
I have not had much success with Roy i electric pressure washers
You forgot to use the blower to your mouth 🤣🤣
"Happy with the build quality, it has a plastic deck so you gotta be careful". Sounds like a dangerous pos is what I hear you saying.
I’ll stick with EGO !
I feel like we time warped here...
I think you were whacking bamboo... invasive.
I haven't used all their equipment, but I owned one of their string trimmers and it was a POS. I'll stick with Toro or Honda.
"one of their string trimmers". The bottom of their line to the top is very different.
@@ticatcrash Thanks buddy! Good tip
I’m pretty sure I proved all of that wrong in this video. Worked perfect for me. There’s your public service announcement
I still like the gas powered equipment…. It’s way better
Yep, Ryobi is trash 🗑
