  • After a long wait we finally got our hands on an EGO Nexus Power Station! We say long wait because the first wave of these being released sold out INSTANTLY! The Ego Nexus Power Station is a 3,000 peak watt inverter that uses EGO power plus batteries to create 120 volt AC power to run appliances and power tools up to a combined 2,000 watts continuously. Many people refer to this unit as "The EGO generator" but it's not technically a generator because it is not "generating" the power. Instead it is converting the 56 volt DC power stored in the EGO batteries into 120 volt AC power. What makes the Nexus Power Station so appealing is the fact that it can be used indoors since there is no oil, gas, exhaust, or hot surfaces to worry about. It is absolutely silent with the exception of the cooling fan kicking on now and then and even that is a very minimal amount of noise. The Nexus Power Station can also be used to charge the EGO power plus batteries. It can charge and use up to 4 batteries. Any size EGO power plus battery can be used on it. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 3 - 120 volt outlets, 4 USB ports, and one of the most important features is the fact that it is a PURE SIGN inverter so it will safely work with your sensitive electronic devices like laptops, flat screen TV's, medical equipment, and more. The Nexus power station can be purchased in a kit with 2- 7.5 Ahr batteries, or as a bare tool with no batteries. The price tends to scare a lot of people because it retails for over $1,000, but it is a worthy investment! And if you scour the internet you can probably find a deal on one just like with everything else in the world today. But as always, we strongly recommend you purchase all of your power equipment from an actual dealer whenever possible!
    EGO also has 10.0 Ah batteries available now that will work with this Nexus power station and give you an even longer run time.
    And if you're looking for an inverter for your EGO batteries, but at a much cheaper price, then check out the EGO Nexus Escape inverter as featured in this video: • The EGO Nexus Escape 1...

    It works great for its purpose. Charge phones and laptops. Run a few lights in a bad situation. Safe to run inside. It’s for people who are in the ego ecosystem. I keep my batteries on it all the time. Use them to run my yard equipment and put back on the charger/inverter. If power goes out I’m fine for a emergency power.

    One really big bonus of the nexxus. Is saving a battery that would otherwise be a warranty claim. I killed a 2.5 while charging my phone using the escape. After draining it the battery refused to take a charge. It would just blink red on the charger. So as a last ditch effort i tried the nexxus in charge mode, since it is a trickle charger the battery accepted the slower charge. After about 15 to 30 minutes on the nexxus i took it off and put it back on the rapid charger. Sure enough it now took the charge. So many people are calling in warranty work on the batteries and all they need is the nexxus.

    I have been eyeing this item for months. I am trying to convince myself to buy it. I don’t need it and doubt I’d even use it. But I do have a few ego tools and think this is cool. I have their one battery inverter too which I never use but like. I just ordered one from a pawnshop for $750. Hope I like it.

    I built a solar generator, I dont care what he says about what a generator is but mine gets power from the sun, with a 3,000 to 6,000 surge pure sine wave and 400 full amp hours of lithium batteries it kicks butt, charges fast with 7 100 watt panels and an outback charge controller, runs a ice maker 24 7 and sat TV lights coffee maker charges batteries and keeps on giving. P.S its all within a dewalt tool box with wheels except the panels, portable

    Reading the user guide. It is flashing ego boosting unit. If you look at any other LI-ON generator it can be charged by solar pannels. What about a 12 v outlet, fuses, bums, temperature shut-off etc. No mention that using a power converter means it’s either modified or pure sine wave but either creates energy waste. ETC . Wonderful product. It would certainly solve the Electric loss problem here in SW Florida from all the hurricanes we experience. Just have to fit it into my budget. In comparison to others the $1100 price tag is not so bad for 3000 watts. One could have an additional supply of batteries on hand as well for a longer period of Survival. 5 stars 👍

      @@EshlemaniaTV the Ego power station + 4 batteries is way more expensive than a 2kw Honda generator. You could buy 2 Honda’s. Also, how many years before the batteries fail? You can service a failed generator but I question if you could service a failed Ego battery that’s out of warranty

    • @EshlemaniaTV
      @EshlemaniaTV  4 года назад +1

      @@1sailfast The Nexus Power station is currently available with 2 7.5 Ah batteries for $999.99. This is the PST3042 kit. They will be coming out with another kit featuring their new 10.0 Ah batteries in the coming weeks/months. Ego claims a 2200 charge cycle rating on all of their 3rd generation batteries before they start to "fade". The batteries have a 3 year warranty. And even if the battery fails at 2 years and 360 days, you get a new battery. Not a pro-rated deal or anything like that. Just a straight up replacement. The inverter is considered a tool so it comes with a 5 year warranty. If someone buys this Power Station with the 2 7.5 Ah batteries ( PST3042) and they have an Ego self propelled mower they could use the 7.5 Ah battery on here. if they have an Ego snow blower, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, chainsaw, or any other Ego products they can use the batteries from them on this EGO inverter.
      Currently (11/2019) an EGO Nexus Power Station and a total of 4 batteries (kit + 2 additional batteries) costs $999.99 for the Nexus Power Station kit (PST3042) and $350 per additional 7.5 Ah battery. Those are prices are MSRP's from EGO to their dealers. The same PST3042 kit is available at Home Depot for $1197.00. So at the Home Depot price of 1197 plus the 350 per extra battery (2 x $350) your at $1897. You're probably not getting 2 Honda's from a dealer for that price. But even if you do, you just spent $1,900 on 2 Honda generators or inverters and will now have to put more money into them to use them because you have to buy gas for them. Yeah I get that you will have to charge the batteries on the EGO inverter when they go dead and if you're not using solar or a wind turbine or some other source of free electric it is going to cost you to charge the batteries. So even if you buy just one Honda you still have to buy gas and spend dollars and dollars every time you want to run that Honda. With an inverter like this you are spending pennies every time you "refuel" it over it's service life. Then you will also have to buy air filters, oil, and spark plugs for that Honda. That all adds up. You can question if you can service a failed EGO battery, but it's not really a fair to compare it to servicing a generator. in this set up, the inverter is more equal to the inverter and the batteries to the fuel that the generator runs on. So when you have bad gas can actually service the bad gas? No. You have to drain it and replace it. Now can you replace that gas for a few cents at a time? Is the gas station saying your gas will last 3 years without a drop in performance or they will replace it? Is the Honda generator going to have a 5 year warranty that won't actually be a "Limited Warranty"? How many repairs in 3 years will need to be made due to bad gas? Gas related issues are RARELY covered under warranty. I say rarely because every now and then a dealer can get one through. But you get what saying here? I see your points and the questions you have and that this might not be applicable for your situation, scenarios, equipment experience, etc, but there are a lot of people out there that take all of the things I mentioned into heavy consideration because they just want reliability without constant maintenance, or have specific uses that this will work for and gas won't. Or maybe they just want simplicity and ease of use. I won't argue that yes you can get a gas powered generator with more power for not much more money and that it could run longer before needing to be refueled. We actually have a 3500 watt and a 6500 watt gas powered generator. We used to use them more often until we got an EGO Nexus Power Station. The main reason we got the Power Station is because when a storm comes up and the power goes out, we're not going out to the shed or garage to wheel the generator outside and fire it up in the middle of the storm and then let the generator sit outside in the storm and run to run because it can't be ran indoors. We can keep the Nexus Power Station in the house 24/7. We can use it in any room at any time. No real noise, no fumes, no exhaust, no hot engine parts. Just simple quiet reliable convenience.

    OK I love EGO products (I have 3) including the mower) but if you your power is out for a few days like mine was for the last hurricane we had roll through, this wouldn't be that great especially if you want to keep your refrigerator running constantly. I have a gas generator and had it running for a good 2 days while power was out. I was running the fridge, 2 fans, a light at night and several charging cell phones. I love clean energy but this is not not quite there yet.

    • @ginsu101
      @ginsu101 4 года назад +2

      Agreed. This is more of a stop gap before you have to pull out your generator. If you have an outage for less than 6 hours , you pull this out. If it goes longer, then you pull out the generator. Also, at night, you can put your refrigerator on this and power it all night without having a generator running outside all night. Of course if you have to get up in the middle of the night, you will have to use your phone or flashlight.

    At 8:00, your description isn't quite right (or I misinterpreted what you meant). There's no way you're going to get almost 6 hours with a 2.5 Ah battery at 600 watts. At 56 V, a 2.5 Ah battery would give you 140 Wh. That means 140 watts for 1 hour. At 600 watts, you'd get something like 14 minutes with a fully charge 2.5 Ah battery (assuming perfect efficiency).

    With my particular home, it looks like 8 7.5 ah batteries would have all the juice I would need for overnight (AC, fridge, occasional bathroom light, etc.)
    No need for the Nexus'... just the batteries and a few electronic conponents.

    I'd like to use one of these to provide backup power for furnace and fireplace fans in case of emergency, by keeping it plugged-in in the basement so it is fully-charged and ready when power outages occur. Do you know if there's any problem for either the batteries or the charger to keep this thing plugged-in (with batteries) indefinitely? Note that I don't plan to keep _devices_ (fans, etc.) plugged into the outlets when I don't need it -- just keep the charger plugged into the wall. I plan to rewire the fans so they're on cords that can be switched manually from wall power to this thing when needed.

    I believe I can charge my Leaf Blower EGO's much faster using the individual charging platforms and doing so would put less "wear and tear" on the power station. Also...if one has shore power in an RV it might be better to use the individual chargers for a faster charge..so the EGO's can be used later.... if and when... one doesn't have shore power or one can't use one's on board generator because of the noise? I believe you could use the 115V to 30 amp adapter cord to plug directly into your 30 amp outside plug?

      The chargers that come with the handheld equipment do charge the batteries faster. And if you have a snow blower or one of the mowers that comes with the gray rapid charger you can charge the batteries even faster. We use our rapid charger the majority of the time for charging our EGO batteries just because it saves time and with the older batteries it gives you an idea of how much power is/was in them.

Then there's the other things like noise, exhaust fumes, hot engine parts, can't be used indoors, and a surging engine can ruin some electronics, to think about. I have probably a stupid question, but I don’t know a lot about this stuff. I am from tx, and when Ike hit I was without power for almost a month. Say you had 5 of the 7.5 hour batteries fully charged, could you plug in a rapid charger and keep rotating the batteries, or would charging one drain all 4 faster than you could charge it and run other things? By having a spare charging on the inverter, would you be able to keep up constant power?

    can i use it to charge my electric car in an emergency, the cars lion battery pack is 17.5kw, in a usual hour of level 2 charging it consumes 3.5kw which give me 12 miles of driving, i would be plugging in the car's regular 120v plug connected to its own charger using this level1 it usually takes about twice as long to charge so 1 hour would probably equal about 1.75kw and give 6 miles of range, (i only use it locally and rarely as im disabled)? I was thinking of leaving the main ego power bank in the back of the car at all times and take the (eventually 4 7.5ah) batteries inside and using a separate indoor charging unit with them so i can carry each battery which is only 6lbs would this work? Does it tell you the level of each battery? and can you swap out batteries while items are plugged into it? basically carrying electricity at 6lbs at a time from indoors out to the car. And have the cars "power cord" plugged into the ego base uinit. Also how much waste heat does it put out would it heat the car up from the inside (great in winter not so much in summer)?

    You could just plug in a rapid charger to an Inergy Kodiak, or Apex, and charge them in a fraction of the time. Who wants to wait 40 hours for their batteries to be charged?
    Best part of an Apex? It has a charge through feature where you can charge, and discharge at the same time, which is REALLY cool when you're using solar panels.
    For the price of the thing, just get an Inergy Apex, or even look into Goal Zero.....have to spend a LOT of money with them though.....I recommend Inergy first.
    Then of course there's the beast.....which is the Titan solar generator.....that thing is AWESOME!! But.....you pay for it....although it's only about twice the cost of the Ego thing, and you'll get about 10 times the power that the Ego thing will put out....so, which is actually more expensive?
    Not being rude, just telling you.....there's far better options for battery powered "generators" out there. Yes, I know it's not a generator, it's just that there isn't really a better name for the things. So....they're deemed "solar generator" or battery powered generator. Power station might be a good name for them.....

    • @EshlemaniaTV
      @EshlemaniaTV  4 года назад

      That's some really good info Harley! We actually use the rapid charger to charge our batteries to save time like you mentioned. And as far as solar charging, everyone has been speculating it and I have heard from a very reliable source that we should be seeing some sort of solar charger kit for this Ego Nexus power station in the very near future.
      We know there are other products out there very similar to this this and probably many more to come. But the appeal to this unit is the interchangeability of the batteries from the power station and all the other Ego equipment. It's hard to believe that all the battery powered tool brands don't each have something like this available already. I'm sure it won't be long until a few of them do and they will probably appeal to the construction guys for the same reason.
      Thanks again for the great feedback!

      I personally don't put much stock in that initial high number. It is basing the runtime on only powering the LCD display since the outlets aren't on. Then it goes down whenever you activate any of the ports, as there is a little bit of draw just to have the ports active. Remember, everything that requires power like the LCD, USB or 110 outlets, wifi, bluetooth are all getting their power from the batteries. Even if it says 80 hours, this is irrelevant, since you aren't giving power to anything that you need yet. The real numbers of value come after you connect a device.

    • @Sylvan_dB

      That has way too many variables to answer (efficient energy star fridge? nice clean cooling coils with plenty of air circulation? never opening the door?). Buy a kilowatt power meter and measure how much it uses a day or a week or a month. (running longer and dividing by the number of days will help normalize the data.)
      A single 7.5ah EGO battery has approximately 375 watthour of power. Four of them would then have about 1500wh or 1.5kwh.

    Ego company is very deceiving just like many other products from oversea. It has 7.5 amp x 56 V battery, which produces 420W. even if you combine 4 of them, it can produce only 420 w x 4 = 1680 watts. how can it produce 2000w continuous, and 3000w peak? Furthermore, lithium iron battery run at usually 80% of efficiency, that gives only 1344 w. Beyond that it will damage battery and shorten its life span. It is the law of physics, energy can't be created. I just don't understand why, people look at numbers on the machine and believe it but not physics and mathematics. Those numbers can be all manipulated by software programming. I saw Titan or Yeti 2000w battery packs, they have 75-100 AMP X 24 V = 2400 W, which make sense. Any company should be at least honest about their products.

      I found another review that did the math and that is correct, once you add the 20% safety factor that is untapped in any battery, it’s in that 1300 to 1400 watt continuous range. Recharging it in the deep woods is the problem especially without solar or on rainy days with Power Banks. Almost all of the ''solar generators'' are this way. Lithium batteries need special chargers, too.
      The cheap solution:
      Get a trolling motor deep cycle battery, Walmart battery box, 300 Watt Bestek PURE SINE INVERTER, alligator clamps to lighter plug adapter and your CPAP will run on high heat/humidity all night. Battery $100, $42 eBay inverter, $12 heavy duty aligator clamps to cig lighter, $12 Walmart plastic battery box. For under $175 you can camp for a week or more away from power. Recharge your battery box by running jumper cables from your car to the trolling battery, an hour connected, then run 20 minutes with the car started.
      Most CPAP machines run 80 watts or less. I'm making these units for friends using the $60 eBay Minn Kota trolling motor plastic box with 60 amp and 10 amp breakers and voltmeter built into the box, nice carry handle. . You can even fish with it. And the Bestek inverter has 2 USB cell phone charger ports that are on all the time when the inverter end is plugged into the lighter outlet on the box.I have a 120 volt LED cheap bathroom night light on my box as well. I glue velcro strips to the inverter and the top of the battery box in front of the carry handle and it makes for a nice package...but heavy!
