I've had mine 6 years, and I still love it, love using it, it is my main camera (as I changed from carrying around heavy gear to the challenge of specialising to fixed focal length photography and less time my job grants me to go out shooting), and I never tire of the amazing quality images this camera is capable of, or the amazing dynamic range or low light performance. It is also stealthy, unintimidating, especially when doing street or travel photography - giving you the confidence to just shoot away and people won't feel their privacy is being invaded, and I use mine for printing large format. I lke the "organic" 35mm field of view too. If I want more or less in frame, I "zoom" with my feet, or sway one side or the other for composition. Makes me feel more involved in the picture making process. I also have handy accessories like remote release, and that combined with the articulating screen lets me shoot really low down if I want. The silent leaf shutter: love that too, and the fact it can take flash at all sync speeds. I agree about batteries: the RX1Rii is packed with so much tech it eats through these like no tomorrow. A few ways to save power: turn off bluetooth, put in Airplane mode... but even then, even 220 shots is optimistic. However, the batteries are small, light and easy to carry around spares... and are affordable to buy. The Zeiss Sonnar lens - and I have owned a lot of lenses in my years - is an absolute masterpiece. Even wide open paired with the sensor it knocks many other interchangeable lenses for sharpness and contrast a few stops down. At f/4 or f/5.6, the Sonnar is exceptional. The only thing I don't like about it is the 'fly by wire' manual focus: this could have been better thought out, and the Leica Q/ Q2 is better for that function frankly. Oh, and whilst reassuringly high quality, because the lens is made of shiny and slippery metal, the aperture ring click detenses don't need to have so much resistance as they do, in my view. But I love it, it is so versatile, and if an RX1Riii came out - I would be interested!
I could not have said it better myself. Sadly, I do not think we'll be getting a Mark III version. :( My only real complaint is the size of the battery.
Thank you for the great video... As much as I like the Mark II over the Mark 1 (Supposedly better noise handling, tilt screen, later color science, continuous mode (but does it work well?) etc.), I was wondering if you didn't often have had handheld sharpness problems due to the increased stability needed with the 42mpx and the lack of IBIS. That could be a deal breaker in a way for one that often shoots at around 1/100s, not wanting to skyrocket the Iso. I've read few complaints on the subject, but don't really know. Yet, I believe Sony raised the auto ISO minimum speed on the II because of that, from like 1/80 to 1/100. So, in that regard, wouldn't the Mark1 have a significant advantage for sharp photos handheld vs the Mark II ? I don't know if you ever had tried the Mark 1 though, but you're experience with the II... I already own a GR II and Fuji X70, both with no Ibis, and often get slight blur around those speed, thus my concern wondering if I might not be better of with a Mark 1. That's more important to me than the pixel count loss, EVF or tilt screen, for who does really care of these features at the end, if we don't first nail the shot sharpness right... Also, I really regret the disappearance of the integrated flash on the II, as one really loses the extreme conveniency of flash fill-in on many occasions (Portrait/Macro, etc.), and I'm not sure there's any miniature flash on the market for the Rx1R, which wouldn't be too large to carry, defeating the purpose of a small all in one solution. Would you know of any miniature flash for the Rx1R's on your side? I often wonder how many, having the Mark II now, and having had the Mark I prior, at the end don't miss the integrated flash more than they would have missed a viewfinder on such small camera... As much as I rarely shoot live view with my 6D (unless I do Astro), 5D IV or D500, I never missed one on these tiny cameras, on which it eventually seems to me more convenient to frame with the screen, that on an EVF' if provided. Personally, I'd chose the integrated flash any time over EVF on those mini cameras... Thank you for any insight if you have the time...
I use Sony camcorders for shooting video, but it would be nice to be able to shoot video while I'm out and about with a compact camera. The video capability is a real killer for this camera. The batteries are a bit of a problem, too. Other than that, it looks like it would have been a great camera.
greysuit17 I think the camera and the review is great and I think this channel is awesome. I usually enjoy the reviews on this channel but I struggled to watch the video due to the background track Felix chose.
Eoin what genre of music would be more to your liking? As your probably aware, we can only use royalty free music or licensed. I make most of the music that we use from sample kits with Sony Acid and while it's not hit material it is at the very least, royalty free.
Felix G Photography I do like most genres of music, including electronic / synth music. Maybe not so downbeat? I know you try your best and I didn't mean to criticise you. it was just my personal opinion. I just got a foreboding / tense / somewhat negative feeling from the music, that's all. I find that a couple of great resources with creative commons / royalty free music is from freemusicarchive.org or even RUclips's own music library. Aand again, I really like your channel and your content. :)
As always great video Felix. You are absolutely right about this camera having a niche market (market segmentation). If I'm spending that much money I'm going with the A7RII so I won't be stuck at 35mm field of view. But I do understand why someone would want to buy this.
Thanks. It was a bit of a stretch, but I was able to purchase both the A7RII and the RX1RII with the A7II as my full-frame back up. I'm am almost fully recovered from a broken ankle and plan to get out and do lots of shooting and of course, new videos. I've been on the sidelines since January 5th!

@@HeyDontShoot The muppets at Sony should have designed a palm grip which could carry a stack of button batteries.

I have the RXIR2 and had the RXIR. I seem to remember that it was easier to crop to 50 and 70mm in camera before.
Yah you use the smart zoom, one click to 50mm and another to 70mm I use the C button for that function.

RX1R2 for computer nerds
Leica Q for rich retirees.
Brown and black don't go together like brown and silver, did they offer a black leather base?
That camera is pretty epic!
It is. I am glad I went with the Sony RX1RII instead of the Leica Q (although, secretly, deep down, I still kind of want a Leica Q).

Danke für Video.😊😊😊
My pleasure!

Felix G Photography I suppose I am very spoiled by Casey Neistat's channel and the music he uses....
I didn't have any problem with the music at all.
I am new in your channel ANd absolutly love it
Thanks Windsor. We have more great videos in the works! In fact, we are posting a new video later today!
The music is distracting over your nice review

I wish they make this lens alone. The current 35mm is 2.8 and minimum focus distance is more than 13”.
I like the 2.8 but I also use the Zeiss ZM mount with an adapter, it's f/2.
The music is too much, I couldn't get more than 30 seconds in.
I know, I suck, which is why I never got further than playing the bass drum in high school band.
Well, that's a lie because the music doesn't start until past 30 seconds in. So...
Thanks. You see? Different strokes for different folks!
Nice camera. I want one. I just can't afford it. :)
i want one
It's meant mostly for enthusiasts to by second hand in 7 years and make "is it still worth it videos" 😉😂
4 years to go!
The sample photos are stretched. Useless!
That's what I used to say about my ex's vagina.
Die Darstellungen sind ja völlig verzerrt!
Kauf dir lieber eine Leica 🙂
So ~4000$ camera to take pics of your dog and some flowers...
To be fair, my dog is priceless.
It can also take shots of the moon showing shadows and structure in the terminator....
