I think is is so important to lift up those in prayer who preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ without compromise. The pressures they face can be very difficult. Thank you for this message.

Our Methodist Church voted to leave the UMC. We are now independent. Our Church has an open table for Communion. The only requirement is that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. This could be in any religious denomination or with no religious affiliation. Nobody is denied. I do not believe we should teach sin in the Church but I also do not believe we should deny people. I was offered Communion before being baptized as an adult. I would not take Communion until after I was baptized but this was based on my own understanding of things at the time.

Hello🙏🏻 Thank you for this discussion. Thank you so much for this discussion. This has been something I've been very deep in as far as research and within my doctoral program. The interpretation of the 1st Corinthians passage that you read has been interpreted in ways that may not always be true to the context. This particular context has to do with the wealthy and the poor and the exclusion of someone due to social class. The condemnation in this particular scripture is to the wealthy. Drinking in an unworthy manner has to do with those who intentionally are excluding someone. I am still digging deep into this. Anyway, I appreciate hearing your thoughts. There are, it seems, several different definitions of what Open table actually means amongst believers. Practicing in such a way that leaves a person to their own conscience would definitely be more of a Methodist way of the practice of this Holy sacrament. Seeing Holy Communion as a converting ordinance as John Wesley wrote about, is an understanding that I have come to in agreement. I would love to converse about this at some point. It is important to note that we do not hear contession from people and we must always provide a prayer of confession. Therefore, we do not know the complete condition of one's heart or what the draw to the table might be in such a way that might bring them to Christ or to a deeper understanding and relationship with Christ. It is also important to note that Judas received the bread from Jesus. Just thoughts. Blessings, Rev. Cathy Larsen.

    Well said brother
I, thank God, belong to a confessional Lutheran church. We practice closed communion based on that same bible text

I actually have a video coming very soon on the proper extent of “open table”. Hoping to influence the conversation in the GMC.

This profound hatred is not new. Read about what the Spanish Republic did to the Catholic Church that left the church no choice but to side with
Franco. This is never talked about. Please notice how other priests and I can assure you Cardinals and high-ranking Vatican official would side with the mayor if they dared too publicly. Read up about the important position the Jesuit James Martin has within the Church. I am surprised that FOR THE MOMENT the priest has been supported by his bishop. Please also understand that Catholic teaching is quite clear, if you receive communion without the proper disposition or in a permanent rejection of the Church's teaching's and are in an objective state of sin, based on the Scripture you quoted, no matter what the bishop says you will merit Divine Judgment. Traditionally communion in the RC Church has been a public statement that you accept the teachings of the church. The trend, theologically and pastorally since the Council has been to view the reception of the
sacrament as an emotional, me and Jesus moment free from any limitations of belief or lifestyles. It is now an outward marker that you are part of the club no matter what you believe.
