Billy is a British rock icon from the 80's with so many great songs. Eyes without a face, White Wedding, Rock the cradle. Most notably he became a naturalized US citizen after living in and out of NY for decades. He said receiving his citizenship was one of his greatest accomplishments.
80's Punk Rock. Billy Idol is an Icon. Other songs and videos to check out by him is the concert version of MONY MONY, EYES WITHOUT A FACE, DANCING WITH MYSELF, CRADLE OF LOVE. He's got a rabbit hole. You'll enjoy.
An 80's rocker who was known for partying hard. He partied soo hard one time, they had to call the military to get him out of a hotel room, escort him onto a plane, strap him down, and fly him out of the country.
Billy idol is British and his first band was"generation x" definitely punk! Another good song is"eyes without a face, flesh for fantasy, white wedding, cradle of love.......etc✌️
Although their third album Kiss me Deadly I would say is more New Wave than Punk. And includes the classic Dancing with myself. Billy always kept a little punk in him though👏👏
I wouldn't really call Billy Idol "punk". I mean there is a touch of that, but blended heavily with new wave and rock n roll. He kind of had his own sound and style, like Elvis gone 80s.
He also hold dual British and American Citizenship. His family spent several years living on Long Island New York when he was very small(his sister was born in the US) before moving back to the UK when he was around 7 or 8.
Billy Idol Mony Mony for crowd participation! Their sound is really music driven. Big shout to the band members! Steve Stevens really shreds that guitar and still tours with Billy.
Imagine Billy pointing to you in the crowd and singing this song to you. Have a young lady feeling some type of way. I'm surprised yall didn't comment on the strong drums here now that yall are really into drums. Also Billy Idol did have a few Cameos in movies back in the day
80s punk rock, you came on the scene maybe almost halfway through the Disco era. I was in my twenties during the '80s, it was the greatest time for music and clubs ever.
I'm a full-blown metalhead have been for forty years. I love punk and rock'n'roll and Billy is a fucking rock icon. never been disappointed with a single song!
Not wrong about the Elvis vibes. He´s always been a big fan of the King. You want to give "To Be A Lover" a shot. It´s pretty clear to hear on that one.
I got to see him live in the 80s. Came to my college. Got everyone up on a frenzy for an encore and then just walked of the stage. I was mad, but on the other hand it was inline with his personality. You may want to check out White Wedding and Mony, Mony.
Prior to going solo, Billy Idol was a punk icon as he was in the punk band "X". I think that is what you are picking up on. However, he does also seem influenced by Elvis, in his low tones and his upper lip curl. His sex appeal was just as great as Elvis too! Except more raw and edgy. My brother cultivated his look for a while in his teens. I, on the other hand, love the guitarist Steve Stevens. I love that ray gun sound he makes, the all black vinyl outfit, jet black crazy hair. I got a BA in music, with major instrument being classical guitar, but I love his solo's. Steve Steven's is the embodiment of an 80's guitar god. He also did the solo in Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana". I love the solo in "Eyes without a Face", which is my favorite. Idol and Stevens complemented each other so well.
I totally love how honest and respectful you guys are! Even if 9 out of 10 videos would never be on your personal play lists you keep it real and I love that!
@@jenniferfoster1692 she's telling me this with me sporting spiked hair of my own at the time hahaa Best was I was seeing this metal dude in HS, he came by my place & my dad is a total character, sees the guy's spiked bracelet & asks to put it on... then snarls and yells "FLESH! FLESH FOR FANTASY!" the bf says "Billy Idol is a dick" aaaaand exit!! Dad said after the awkward silence, "ok then... we'll be seeing you, almost time for dinner here" then later tried bragging that he threw him out for talking shit about Billy!!😂🤣😂
And when you mention it, he definitely gives off a unique vibe. He almost sings in a older, crooning style, but still hits high notes. Despite belonging to the rock genre, of course.
I've seen a lot of these rebel yell videos and I have never seen someone not bounce the ole noggin a little bit! 😊 She must be distracted by something! And yes Elvis vibes😂 Guitar dude is Edward Scissorhands Hands😂
Definitely worth checking out more Billy Idol he was such an important part of the alternative 80s in the UK and was part of the Bromley contingency who were famously on television with the sex pistils in the 70’s.
If you’re into Punk Rock, you would of heard of Billy Idol, and like the bloke below, yes ,Billy is a Rock Icon, who can still fill Stadiums Anywhere In the World..🎸🎸🎸🎸.Yes ,he did admire Elvis, and imitated him abit..
Thank you sooo much for this reaction...took me allll the back to high school...i blasted this song everytime it came on the radio....love yalls reactions!!
Billy Idol is a rock legend, started out in the original British punk rock scene and went more mainstream after some years. His videos were all over MTV back in the day when it mattered. He has a HUGE catalogue of amazing songs, and he's still touring today to huge venues, and still kicking ass. He's one of a kind
Billy Idol was and still is one of my favourites . He is British . His music is glam rock and new wave Its not typical rock music . Please nothing like Elvis Presley.
My cousin was really into this band, She would say he is a modern version of Elvis. She so loved his curled lip smirk. His punk appeal(all the studded clothing) was popular. I even got questioned one day, by the police & my studded belt got taken away(apparently it is classed as a weapon). Was supposed to go see him, but the concert got delay by two days in Australia, as he had to go back to the UK, as no one here would dye his hair, with his required level of peroxide, to get the look he required. He has many good songs, but my favourite is White Wedding.

Good point. I grew up with this but just realized how much he crafted his image to be Elvis from the voice to the sneer. Of course, the name IDOL was also clever.
You're right about the Elvis reference...Elvis had a distinct "crooning" style of vocal as does Billy Idol - very low pitch and sustained. A lot of rock/punk singers adapted this same crooning approach to their vocal style such as Jim Morrison of The Doors, Glenn Danzig of The Misfits/Samhain/Danzig, and Michael Paulson of Volbeat. To validate my statement here, you should really react to the official video by Danzig called "Mother"....I think you'd really vibe to that one!
Billy Idol was quite the performer, with a kill ass guitar player. Say, guya, m Rupp, of the a capella group Home Free, does an amazing beat box solo drum act. You'll love it, I swear.
Billlyyy! Whoo, he had us jumping in the day. He has a great repertoire of songs. Listen to White Wedding, Mony, Mony and Eyes Without A Face. His mouth sneers and fist punch outs were his iconic moves. Now he's an awesome father and grandfather 👍🏾👵🏿🎶💜!
I saw them do this in a small university club. This style saw rock shifting a bit more more towards punk. It meant the nightclub fashion of the day, for many reasons I'm sure, had us all dressed like we were vampire S&M practitioners. But I've gotta tell you, for back then, people did look f'ing cool.
Billy Idol had many hits in the 80s: Dancing With Myself, White Wedding, Mony Mony, Hot in the City, To Be a Lover, LA Woman, Cradle of Love, etc. If you've seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the character of Spike seems to be modeled after Billy Idol. The resemblance is even mentioned in one episode of the show.
One thing about the 80s our music was diverse we had lots of sub genres inside of Blues, Rock, Pop, Punk, Country, Rap and there was lots of crossover. You could hear just about any genre on a pop station. We didn’t feel obligated to own a certain genre of music. We just appreciated good music. Billy idol was more punk with rock edge. Billy was so hot! 😉
You may have heard the version with Miley Cyrus corroborating Or maybe one of the 30000 places it’s been featured in: The song appears in the 1984 movie Sixteen Candles. The song appears in the 1985 movie The Legend of Billie Jean. The song appears in the 1986 movie The Wraith. The song was included in the video games Guitar Hero World Tour, WWE 2K16, as a downloadable track for the Rock Band series. The song appears in the documentary Warren Miller's Impact. The song appears in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as an in-game cassette tape. Part of the song was used in a radio commercial for Blockbuster Video Australian in the mid-2000s. The line "more, more, more" appeared in the ad, with the voiceover boasting about Blockbuster having more copies of new release movies than the competition. The song has been covered by many different bands such as Children of Bodom, HIM, Drowning Pool, Dope, Black Veil Brides, Adrenaline Mob, and Otherwise. The song was used during a flashback scene, in the 4th episode of American Horror Story: 1984. In the 1990s, the song was featured in an ad campaign for KP snacks. Following the final lyrics "more, more, more" a voice over added "why settle for less, less, less." The song appears in the trailer for the Outbreak gamemode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as well as appearing in a collection of songs in a music pack in-game. The music video of "Rebel Yell" can be seen on a TV in the 1988 film Big.
I remember all girls loved Billy That made me jealous at the time He had a lots of energy and carisma... They still love him, but they won't tell you, bro😜
I love that keyboardist's look xD. God the 80s were wild, just looks amazing and fun. You're 100% right on the Elvis vibes, there's a few other 80s bands and songs that had a 50s rock n roll vibe to then
This type of rock is called "Punk Rock" and Billy was the king of it in the early 80's. He and his lead guitar player, Steve Stevens, are still out there rockin' it. They just don't jump around like they used to. I don't either. lol
Billy Idol started out as punk rock before going more main stream. Elvis was an early influence and he does have a very famous sneer like Elvis did as well🤘🏼
Bro, in the 80's when I was in highschool Billy Idol was the shit...Punk, New wave music is what he brought. He was a King back then. Still tours. His Idols were Elvis and Jim Morrison fro. THE DOORS. So he tends to sound like them sometimes. Saw him during the Rebel Yell tour and he is fantastic live. Great front man.
Fun fact Billy Idol had a four-year English degree. The thing I love about him is how he seems to know every rock & roll vocalist trick and uses it so damn well.
I got kicked out of my senior English class for missing class on the day of the midterm exam because I went to the Billy Idol concert the night before and got all fucked up. I didn't graduate on time because of that stunt. Totally worth it
I think what you are noticing that is making it seem so different to you is that Billy always had a punk edge to him, his music, and his band. So, I think what you're seeing that is catching your attention is the punk element mixed with 80s keys. I recommend White Wedding next. Anything Billy Idol will be fire. He's got a ton of great music and lots of hits. By the way, definitely an ode to Elvis thrown in there with the lip and the voice.
I said it when we first saw this song/video on MTV. He reminds me of Elvis. Bad ass Lead Guitarist White Wedding and Mony Mony are great songs of his. British Punk Rocker
I saw him back in the late 80's, The Cult opened for them. It was a fantastic show! When you are ready, Billy Idol started in a punk band Generation X, they are fantastic too. ( I love them anyway😃) You might like Ready Steady Go, Kiss Me Deadly, King Rocker, Day By Day. Thank you guys, we appreciate you!!!

That's the most 80s thing I've ever heard.
As it should be :-)
This song was used in The Wedding Singer. Billy Idol did a cameo appearance at the end of the movie as well.
If you ever seen the legend of billy jean it's on there as well, and if you haven't seen it I recommend it, it a good movie.
Also recently in American Horror story. 1984 . Richard Rameriz dancing to it .

I agree! When he says that “he lives in his own heaven” in that deep voice it really does sound like Elvis

Billy Idol is great in his small role in the Wedding Singer movie.....
This was my era, 80's Rock had a strong r 'n' b twist, and can jive with hip hop!

Bad ass Lead Guitarist
White Wedding and Mony Mony are great songs of his.
He was the headline punk rock act of the 80s. Good Elvis sound pick up! Lol. Billy Idol definitely had his own distinctive growl though.
