My husband and I have seen The Cowsills several times on Rock and Roll Cruises. They are very nice and speak to all the fans they can. They are awesome!!
lets keep in mind that ch 5's good day studio had absolutely nothing to offer these singers in terms of "technology" and embellishment. this is as raw as it gets which shows you how talented the Cowsills are.
This was fabulous. I don't know where these siblings got their honest humor from after reading/watching how terrible their upbringing was especially with Bud, but their energy and auras are so pure and refreshing. Thanks for sharing!
Rhode Island’s very own I saw them at a club in Newport in 1967 or 8 and went back stage to see if I could hire them for a concert at URI. The manager (dad,I guess) Enid they were about to release a song and if it hit the way they hoped we couldn’t afford them. I guess he was right. Still loved them though.
Love the talk Bob gave where he was talking about Indian Lake and said, "...and this is the part where any reasonable songwriter would have put a second verse..."
I was 5 when I Love the Flower Girl came out and It's one of the first songs I ever remember being aware of. I think what always drew me in was the thunder and rainstorm that starts the song.( Maybe ).❤😊
This is a great clip. Only flaw: the person interviewing them got it wrong about Barbara (their mother) playing keyboards. She did not. Barbara never played any instrument other than tambourine in public or in television appearances, although she might have played steel or slide guitar or a like instrument while at home, or in the studio. This interviewer wouldn't have known that. Paul was too nice to correct her. But by saying his mother played the steel guitar he let's the interviewer down easy. Classy guy. So where did the interviewer get the idea? Answer: Once again the influence of that stupid show "The Partridge Family" is evident. This interviewer remembered Shirley Jones faking playing the piano on that show, and just thought that the Cowsills' mother did also. Very aggravating to hear mistakes like that!!!
Interestingly, I saw a talk Bob gave in which he explained that their mother hated singing in public but was basically pushed into it by their dad. And if you watch old videos, it does look like she'd just about rather be anywhere else.
As a new fan , in my now old years - I perceive them as two totally separate bands , but yes the show did resemble --the a tual band save the fact that the real band The Cowsills , to me - and I'm sure many - are not pop ; they're more , seems, ballad rock . I thought they were adults when I heard their initial hit . But I'm not a skilled speacher 🤣see .. but I do like to point at flowers with the throngs admirers --- the mother was out of market , and probably would have succeeded as an individual star or artist - musician BUT why not boost of the accomplishment result ,,that family has gifted tantemount canon . Are there any professors here ? I'm sorry I can't eschew 🤣🥰
I'm a little surprised they had John sing the lead on Indian Lake. I really enjoyed their work from the 60's. The 70's destroyed them and the 90's were not very good to them either. I enjoy their versions of these songs beyond 2000 better than this one. It doesn't look like they're enjoying themselves here. I really wished their dad hadn't put a wedge into the group and split them. I also don't think it was a good idea to add their mother to the group. I still enjoy memory lane with "Hair", "Flower girl" (i.e. the park, the rain, and other thing), and Indian Lake as they sing it today (with Bob, Paul, and Susan).
@yboywonder actually John is the perfect person to take over Bill's lead vocal for Indian Lake. John has exactly the same type of timbre clarity and vibrato as his older brother Bill. John has an amazing voice / range.
I could have heard wrong, but to me it sounded, and looked like, Paul was singing along with John and then Susan and Bob sang back-up. Either way, the group sounded great!
Billy hated the initial demo but worked it up into a top 10 hit. Bob said it really isn't a full song it needs a bridge or something to break up the verses. Billy ended up liking it after Brian Wilson praised it.
I can't keep up with their configurations...now who's playing bass and drums on this version? I think they are either spouse's or kids of the three original members (Paul, Bob, Susan)...John was borrowed from the Beach Boys for this huh?
Dang it, I wanted to hear the whole song Hair!...I love the Cowsills :)

This was like a Christmas present in February! Great video!!!

I really liked this "raw" sound and am SOOOOO glad they didn't use tracks or pantomime.
Love this. Great talents
I loved it. The Cowsills are awsum!!

Who is Cecil????? Why is he there?
I researched it. It's 7.1.1990. . Just Bob, Paul, John and Susan from the family here.
thanks!

Love Bob's smile when someone in the audience reacts. It's great to hear John on lead for this happy toe-tapper! :) Look at that HAIR! *wink*
They were amazing ! Nailed it! They are all still at it.
I LOVE the Cowsills! Saw them at Zanzibar's later that same day, so worth the wait! They are still awesome!!
Happy to have brought them back and in to Boston for you!
I really enjoyed this. Thanks so much for Sharing.
Great band

The start reminds me of the sound boiling water makes. 😊
they sounded great
I (still) love The Cowsills ❤
Awesome!

Paul really did do a great job of covering for the interviewer’s mistake about Mom.
Saw them when they were doing the state fair circuit in 1971!
I saw them in the 60s (maybe 67 or 68) at the Ohio State Fair.
Detroit state fair I got up close to the stage and took pictures. Sadly, 20 years later and our basement flooded decimating my beautiful pictures.
I would go see them in a "Heart Beat"
Way to go Barry!!
Love The Cowsills since 1968
Listen to those harmonies. And minus 2 voices.
Outstanding harmonies.
She answered my question right away. Cecil Duke on bass. I recognized everyone except him.

Bob was singing unison with him.

The Cowsills rule.
Billy hated "Indian Lake".
still he managed to turn that "sucker" into something
30.years ago, I always had a crush on Susan. This song would not be construed as PC I suppose in this day and age
Do you have full video of Hair in this video?
haven't seen one
I know they hated this song, but I never understood why.
Billy hated it. The rest are okay with it.
Billy hated the initial demo but worked it up into a top 10 hit. Bob said it really isn't a full song it needs a bridge or something to break up the verses. Billy ended up liking it after Brian Wilson praised it.
Ok I know everyone loved their song hair! It wasn't one of my favs! I liked We can fly.! and the rain the park and other things best!
Just not the same without Susan wiggling it up there...she's just playing the guitar.
Yes! She could really get down back in the day!
I was going to comment that....you beat me to it lol...
A ten year girl's body structure is much more conducive to wiggling.
Whats good Day? I never saw it in N.Y.
Local Channel 5 in Boston.
I can't keep up with their configurations...now who's playing bass and drums on this version? I think they are either spouse's or kids of the three original members (Paul, Bob, Susan)...John was borrowed from the Beach Boys for this huh?
what year was this? They still look young, probably the 1970's ?
Brought them back together for this in 1991.
Is that Ron Jeremy on bass?
+kewkabe funny, it was Pablo cowsill. The forgotten one.
Wrong. Paul is on keyboards. Don't know who is playing bass.
Cecil Duke
Eww.... I hope they sanitized it!! 😅
John wasn’t happy that Susan butted in on his first question...the woman doing the interview was awful
She was having a fun time!
Why is Susan so far to the right.
I was way off, they're talking about the 90's. 1990?
1991
Did susan have a very bad smell that day!!
Guessing it was to ensure brother John, drumming, was in the pic.
horrible host
looks like one of the golden girls
She was actually very sweet and loved the family.
Hey, it was the 1950s... 😅
