- • Video ArcAttack auditioned for America's Got Talent. ArcAttack employs a unique DJ set up of their own creation to generate an 'electrifying' audio visual performance. The HVDJ pumps music through a PA system while two specially designed DRSSTC's (Dual-Resonant Solid State Tesla Coils) act as separate synchronized instruments. For what it's worth:
I managed to get in with a free ticket to Maker Faire 2010 in San Mateo California on May 22 (first time i ever went) as i was walking to the inside building Arc Attack started their show looked interesting so i walked over and began filming by accident i became a maker at the Makers Faire lol :D

There is a synth player in the back but it's the coils that are making it actually work. Watch Outrageous Acts of Science. They explain it.

the synth pumps its signal through the tesla coils, making the lightning bolts vibrate the air at the correct notes, a speaker does the same thing, it just does it via a paper cone and electromagnetic coil

@Joonyo0 you have to know that the electric shocks have an own frequency, so they give their Volts and the tesla coil gives the sound! I really love this and the cage of faraday that makes it possible to survive the power on your body.
that is awesome, I've never seen one of these videos without a cage.

Its through changing the voltage of coils, He's just acting as the center piece to the show - the real magic is that guy in the booth behind him, he's the one changing the voltages to change the pitch.

@lokken10 lightning has no constant that defines it as "lightning" Lightning simple means an electrical current arcing through air from point A to point B. Thus, the phenomena created in the video is indeed "lightning"

When I saw this, one of the first things that popped into my mind, was "Sorcerers Apprentice". And epic
OK sorry I think it was not exactly clear what I meant. I wanted to say that the tones of the sound are produced by a sound device, not by plasma itself,then amplified. So,the discharges are kind of 'speakers' but not sources of the sound. Which,btw, means that if you replace a guy waving his hands by a peace of metal the same height, nothing will change in the sound. See my other comment. Also, I followed your advice and tried to google it. And I just found that my first idea was exactly right.

Actually it is, read up on "singing tesla coil" the sound is generated from plasma discharges that have been modulated to generate a specific tone.
