Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and is in the South of the country, but what is there to do in Cardiff? What are the best things to do in Cardiff, what are the best things to see in Cardiff? What is it like inside Cardiff Castle? What does Cardiff Bay look like and what is there to do there? Well, look no further, because this, Things To Do In Cardiff, Wales - 24 Hours In Cardiff vlog will be your ultimate Cardiff guide.
We were only going to Cardiff for 24 hours, in fact we weren't really going to visit the city, we were going to a birthday party of a good friend of ours, Tim Baker, former associate director at Clwyd Theatr Cymru / Theatr Clwyd. As it was a, 'significant' birthday, we thought it was definitely worth making the 3 and a half our train journey down to the Welsh capital, Cardiff.
The party was taking place at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff and we knew that many of our friends, lots of whom we hadn't seen in many years were going to be there. Many of the people there were former associate actors or members of the Theatr Clwyd company, or Clwyd Theatr Cymru company as it was known then when the building was run by former RSC director, Terry Hands CBE.
The best things about seeing and talking to everybody at this party was, even though it's been many years since a lot of us had seen each other, conversations were picked up like it was only yesterday. That was the influence that the organisation had on all of the people involved back then.
We also had many ties with Cardiff from the past. Not so much Rach, who although had been there a few times, it was only ever for work and never really got to know the city, but Wills used to go almost every year for about 17 years in a row to take down theatre productions, to mainly the New Theatre, Cardiff, but also The Sherman Theatre and Chapter Arts Centre.
Getting back to this Things To Do In Cardiff - 24 Hours In Cardiff Video. In this video we cover lots of what this Welsh capital city has to offer.
We take a look around the streets of Cardiff, we visit Chapter Arts Centre, the Sherman Theatre, and take a nostalgic look around The New Theatre. We head down Bute Street to take a good look around Cardiff Bay, taking in all of the sights, including The Wales Millennium Centre, the Pier Head Building, take a ride on the Ferris Wheel and also gate crash some work at the Norwegian Church to see some friends of ours who we thought may be there.
After a trip on the Cardiff Bay Water Taxi to Bute Park, we went on to explore Cardiff Castle, as we'd never been inside there before.
A quick look around the city again, getting some food and seeing some sights, it was time to make our way back home.

Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. I've been twice within an inch of Cardiff ( in a manner of speaking) and have yet to actually visit. Feel a bit deprived now. Wow, wow wow. What a jam packed awesome city. I feel privileged to have been a shadow in your footsteps. I could repeat all those things, about the drop dead gorgeous castle, the market and the food etc- many went before me and sort of covered it. Hi Rach & Wills! Oh my, things have changed since the Butlins Phwelli days! I had one of my best holidays there as a child. Loved what Wills' mum has done with the caravan. What a fantastic woman. The Haven site looked so clean, modern, and fun with so much to do. Like you, I was so impressed. Of course, being surrounded by the natural beauty of North Wales is a big added bonus too. Excellent, really enjoyed exploring Cardiff with the Postcard duo! Beautiful weather too! Ahh the Market, so epic, they have really great Welsh cakes there! Well, you cant beat a good record store, good spot Wills! Always enjoy the way you film and narrate, you totally encourage people to want to visit these epic towns, so i appreciate it! Great to see the docks and of course the castle - wow! I've still not managed to visit there, but we will at some point, those views are beautiful. Love Lord Bute's work, i was blown away with the architecture at Castell Coch, and this really reminds me of some of their incredible work! and those war tunnels, wow! As you know, we aren't city lovers (despite living in one🙈😆), but you know what, Cardiff looked like brilliant fun, you won us round with your tour🥰👏. 1:10 There is a Well known person of Cardiff, He is standing up in the black top and white trousers who goes by the name of Ninjah. 1:15 and 2:35 His name is Terry who is a dedicated Cardiff Devils ice hockey fan. 5:25 and 20:25 It shocking the amount of people who do not know what the sculpture in at the front of the Cardiff library. 6:10 They are 87 temporarily housing for homeless families. 16:55 The amount of times I have paid a visit to the Cardiff Castle, it get better and a place to relax. Cardiff is the only part of Wales that I have visited so far and all the things you liked and did in this video I did too! It was a real trip down memory lane, only you had wonderful weather (so nice to see Cardiff in sunshine) I got grey, cold and wet (in June!) I did the walk down to the bay (and wondered why there was a statue of Mahatma Ghandi in the main road). I visited the Norwegian church (I'd seen other Norwegian seaman's mission churches in Asia and loved the concept of them ministering to Norwegian sailors far from home) And I too learnt that Roald Dahl was christened there. Took the boat back up river and went into the castle, I loved the manor house and all its over the top decoration. The Air raid shelter in the castle wall was also a favourite, the day I was there a school group of 9 year olds were there. They were dressed as evacuee children and each had a box they had made to carry a gas mask like the children did in WW2. I thought what a great learning experience it must have been for them.

Ah Cardiff, growing up in Blackers with some very disreputable and numbers needy lads Cardiff was always on their radar. “Its a numbers game” they would tell me. Aside from cracking onto every lady that ever stepped foot in Blackpool they would often jaunt off to Cardiff where statistically the women would outnumber the men three to one. Ive never been, but what a lovely place it looks for both men and women alike. So much going for it and such great memories for Wills, given those odds im guessing he had his pick but smart lad that he is he picked a real Queen. Go Rach and Wills ♥️ ah its really heart warming to see how many lovely people you know there. A spinning wheel? Your braver than me Rach. So cool getting to see Cardiff. We kept our eyes open for a Blue Police box but no luck. Did you guys see it and some government agency make you delete the footage 🤣 We only knew about Cardiff from what we saw from Dr. Who. What a beautiful town, the castle and tunnels were out favorite to see.

Finally ran out of places in the north so you've headed south? I've been waiting to see Cardiff for yonks. It was the only place I've heard about in Wales. But all I knew about it was they play rugby and... nope that's it. Now I know it's only 158 miles to London and that Scott's last view of Cardiff was the Norwegian church. Nice foreboding there. The last thing he sees in the UK was a Norwegian church and the last thing he sees in life was a Norwegian flag. Talk about rubbing it in. Nice to see a castle without mentioning Edward the Bastard.
Cardiff does look very cool though. For some reason I imagined it to be more hillier. Like one of the Scottish cities? Edinburgh?
Ah well, now that you've done the south you can get back to the north. You can do something like 10 reasons why Rhyl is better than Cardiff now.
