It's far past time for piobaireachd to enter the realm of classical crossover. This is amazing .Tapadh leat
From a McIntosh: Beautiful!
Hear hear
Stunning. Goosebumps. The musical culture of Gaelic tradition Scotland is so rich , but, sadly, so undervalued .
Go h-iontach ar fad .
Absolutely stunning. 🙏❤️
Whatever your interpretation of what beautiful is,this absolutely transcends it. Extraordinary vocalist and truly outstanding musicians.
Thank the good lord for young musicians and vocalists who truly understand the piobaireachd and can play and sing it with the beauty, depth and meaningfulness our native music intends. One of the most moving of all our piobaireachds, this tune is one of the very best. Wish I could play it that well on my pipes. Outstanding!!
A spellbinding performance from start to finish by all involved so beautiful and sensitively done
So entirely beautiful, start to finish. Moran taing!
sèist: chorus
Ochòin a laoigh, leag iad thu~ Ochoin pet, they have knocked you down
Leag iad thu, laoigh, leag iad thu~ They knocked you down pet, they knocked you down
Ochòin a laoigh, leag iad thu~ Ochoin pet they knocked you down,
'M bealach a' ghàrraidh~ at the pass, of the enclosure
'S truagh nach robh mis' an sin~It's a pity I was not there,
'S truagh nach robh mis' an sin
'S truagh nach robh mis' an sin
'S ceathir' air gach làimh dhomh~ and four by my side, for me.
An leann thog iad gu d'bhanais~ The beer they took to your wedding,
An leann thog iad gu d'bhanais
An leann thog iad gu d'bhanais
Air d'fhalairidh bha e~ It was for your funeral toast.
Bha mi'm bhréidich am ghruagaich~ I was a married woman, a maiden,
Bha mi'm bhréidich am ghruagaich
Bha mi'm bhréidich am ghruagaich
'S am bhanntraich 's an aon uair ud ~ and a widow, all at once
Gun chron air an t-saoghal ort ~ without a blemish of the world on you,
Gun chron air an t-saoghal ort
Gun chron air an t-saoghal ort
Ach nach d'fheud thu saoghal buan fhàistinn~ but you could not have a long life.
Pictish was lost.
Brythonic was lost.
Don't lose this beautiful Scottish Gaelic language.

ALAPA GU BRA !!!
Bu Chòir, Richard.
Thank you Anthony for supplying the lyrics.
"S ceathir' air gach làimh dhomh" is actually "and four on each side". And I suspect it should be "ceathrar" as they are people, not things.
@richardlongues4695 They tried to wipe out our culture 😢
Speechless. This is a work of art.
Beautiful arrangement Pianist, strings and vocalist are hauntingly comforting. Thank you for the music 🎶
Simply beautiful
I want more of this music in my life. Music of my people.
MISCHA NIC PHEARSON YET ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL GHAIDHLIG Singer!
I’ve been playing this tune on the pipes for years but after hearing this I now play it this way leaving out the further variations……a magnificent rendition. Brilliant piano and singer and of course strings. Congratulations! Rarely has a lament been so well presented.
I rewatched the video...again..spellbinding.. a voice anf face of an angel. I will need to research the lyrics. Based on family lore, we lost much on the Culloden Moor.
composed in 1550 “The tune is as old as 1550 or thereabouts. Angus Mackay in his ‘Pipe Music Book’ gives it 1526, and says it was composed, on the death of Lachlan, fourteenth laird; but we believe it was composed by the famous family bard, Macintyre, upon the death of William, who was murdered by the Countess of Huntly, in 1550.'

Unbelievable emotional.Fantastic interpretation. Why only 30.000 clicks? Stupid World.
I am learning this Lament now for a McIntosh funeral in a few days time. This beautiful arrangement captures the soul of the piece more expressively than I can obtain from the sheet music. Thank you.
Beautiful, just beautiful.
Spellbinding , you are all so talented. It brought a tear to my eye...even though I don't speak the Gaelic!
I agree.
Thank you all for the kind words! If you would like to purchase the audio from the video it is now available from my website at the link here:

Excellent Job. It is nice to hear musicians present piobaireachd in a new way. Well done!
Absolutely stunning arrangement. Beautifully musical and captures it perfectly. Outstanding work.
Thanks very much Tam!
Beautiful, truly beautiful. From one British-born Gray to another, now living in North America - well done Chris. All are simply excellent musicians here (vocals, piano, etc.), but because I personally love strings I find the cello on this totally sublime. You can see Ms. Allen invests her soul into her playing.
This brought me to tears...absolutely beautiful, in every way!
Móran taing dhuit, tha feum orm son caoinidh aig an t-am seo.
Feumaidh mi a caoineadh riut, a charaid
Speechless. Thanks for sharing this beautiful music.
Amazing , so many emotions .....
You feel all the emotion through each note that played and sung. Thank you for sharing this wonderful moment.
Absolutely wonderful arrangement. Singing by Mischa touches my soul with stunning playing from all the musicians who beautifully compliment each other in truly awesome harmonies.
Thank you very much for your lovely words Don! :)
@@donaldbaws1967 Thanks very much!

TO ME, MY CLANSMEN! THE HIGHLANDS CALL US HOME! TOUCH NOT THE CAT BOT A GLOVE; THE CLAN OF THE CAT IS ALIVE AND WELL!
Magnificent.
i play that tune at the pipe as a piobaireachd player, but what a beautiful and sorrowful version you give us here , congratulation for this so nice arrangement . Absolutely Superb ! You 're doing justice to the music ....
Touches my Highland heart, it is so beautiful!
Beautiful! Love it!
Thanks very much Robert! :)
Stunning. If only I could stream it to my I-phone!
Wow that was truly beautiful .... and considering I’ve been lucky enough to bare witness to ‘squinting Peter ‘ on the flute ...... but hey that’s what you get for emigrating to Fairbanks Alaska....... many thanks!
Beautiful Chris!
Awesome! Thanks. I have heard it on the pipes many times but never this type of arrangement.
Superb. Wonderful. Moving. Don’t know how I missed this but very glad to come across it. More please
So well done. It's nice to hear piobaireachd played on other instruments.I just listened to one on the fiddle. Singing is the way these tunes were preserved. Lovely.
Thank you so much! :)
❤❤❤
Great work Chris!
Thank you Christian! Hope you're doing great. :)
I'm so thankful music and performance of this quality is available to enjoy. Thank you so much!
Beautiful, simply captivating.
Simply lovely !
Hi-- I add my comments to those below-- spellbinding in its emotion, even without knowing the words. Sings like an angel.
Brilliant. Don’t get the 7 thumbs down at all.
Thanks very much Rory! :)
Love this brilliant mate beautiful
Thank you! :)
beautifully done
Lovely! For would-be singers, the vocal portion starts ~2:10 in and initially lasts about a minute, then at 5:10 - 7:04, then 8:49 - 9:30. But the instrumentals are lovely too. Something about this reminds me of the McGarrigle sister's version of Heart Like A Wheel from 1975 (also on RUclips). The mournful quality, pacing, key...?
WOW!
Glé mhath! Tapadh leibh.
Like this very much
Bravo! Bravo! Bravisimo!
Cha deach an cumha a chall a-riamh. Tha ceòl pìoba beò !
Beautiful ! And, surely, the source of the "Going Home " theme in Dvorak's "New World " Symphony ?
Ranald Mackechnie, Edinburgh.
It was. Apparently Dvorak was staying on a Plantation and heard the slaves singing it, who in turn had learnt it from their slave master who used to play the McIntosh lament on the pipes in the evening...they would have all been homesick...
♥
I cannot stop watching this and crcying Who is the singer with the mournful voice?
Very well done!
~ Gle'mhath ! Tapadh leat ~ i don't know how to express it in Gaelic , & it would sound akward in english ~~ so i'll just listen to you s 3 more times ~~ { & send it to my friend nancy who is a piper ~~ & singer some
Thank you very much Laura! :)
Is it possible to get music for any of the music you arrange?
Dìreach àlainn, ceòl airson mo anam. Mòran taing

Wow,i know it from bagpipes, but not from piano.Good Job.
Is there a translation available for this song? Thanks for uploading.
Might want to remix this with the vocal just a *tad* bit higher than the piano; her voice was getting lost in there from time to time.

we will rise again. if not the balls have truly been taken from us Scots. NAW we are still here. fuck all who do not stand for a Scotland RULED by SCOTS. FUCK THE ENGLISH. SAOR ALBA GU BRATH.

What's it got to do with England? In any case the union of the crowns was caused by the Scottish James VI going to London to become king of a united kingdom and the union of parliaments was brought about by Scottish mps voting to unite the parliaments.
And the song is about a man being thrown from his horse on his way home from church after being married.

Can anyone tell me why it is that I am getting the audio and this and about ten percent of other You Tube videos but not the picture?
Listening in tribute to RBG.
Malcolm
Can anyone translate this song please is beautiful
if anyone would like to know the story behind this haunting lament: carmichaelwatson.blogspot.com/2010/07/cumha-mhic-toisich-mackintoshs-lament.html

Tapah leat airson do cheol.
Lovely, but the intro. on piano was a wee bit too long!
nice, but piano solo at the beginning was hard to get through.
Piano man should shorten his intro and turn down his volume.
