inserting a disc the wrong way in any console doesn't do any damage to it at all. it makes weird noises because it's just trying to read the label which it obviously can't do. it's a useful video so people know how to put it in, but it doesn't do any damage no matter how many times you put it in wrong lol

Thank god, I put in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty in the PS5 upside down, and I thought something was wrong with it, since it wasn’t reading it, and tried it again, but it still wouldn’t read it, then I realized I put it in upside down.. and I just opened it from when I got it the other day off of eBay and I even started putting in for a return on eBay because I thought it just wasn’t working, thank god I didn’t, for the seller’s sake. I don’t know what I was thinking putting the game in that way, haha.

@@joshuabennett723 It's not upside-down. In the manual, you can see that if the PS5 were to be placed horizontally, the disk drive is located on the bottom of the PS5, and not on the top. This means the label side of the disc should be facing the middle black part of the PS5 when inserting any disc.
I made that mistake
It is not counter intuitive, it has been like this for years. You just have to imagine the console laying horizontaly. How did you put the disc on the PS1? With the picture facing up. How did it go on the PS2? With the picture facing up. How did it go on the PS3? With the picture facing up. How did it go on the PS4? With the picture facing up. So why is it counter intuitive if you have to insert the disc with the picture facing up on the PS5?

The thing is....for generations of devices, whether horizontal or vertical or if they could do both positions, the shiny disc side with the data always faced the part of the device that was the bulkiest where the majority of the components are.
Also, normally the drive is on top whether vertical or horizontal.
So this definitely is throwing people for a loop.
Except it shouldnt be. The disk orientation has been thr same for a decade on PlayStation consoles. The top of the disk was always aimed inwards to the console

Yeah. I think that in the vertical orientation for both the PS5 and Series X it feels more natural to place the disc in the way that this video maker originally did for some reason (label side facing right).
@@bpowick i saw the teardown. The blue ray reader is in the opposite side. So you insert it like that.

@@josealmeida7181 Because when the console is standing vertically as it did in this vid it looks like it should be going in the other way. I could have deducted that it was incorrect but that's seperate from intuition.

It probably could have gotten scratched up or maybe even ruined the disc reader or got stuck
But it's a disk, it's the same if you put it in normally or upside down, it will either just read it or not.
Ive actually had a PS4 scrape the paint off a disc because im an idiot and put it in wrong and it completely ruined the reader

Sony should have design the console to let people know which side up or down they should put the disc in. I mean a little label would be helpful.
nothing bad will happen, the laser just scan the text on the disk and says this is not correct, if u did this by old computers in past the disk automatically will go out, thats the only difference.
also some people say buy the digital version, but sony made the disk version for people that are not future ready, so they still can play the disk, in future we will be al digital no disks anymore.

A good way to not get confused is: imagine the console in the horizontal position. The label is always up.
I used strategy that with my wii and xbox 360 the first time used them vertically

The disc insert design is bad. They should have tought about it if people will get confused how the disc suppost to be inserted in
Usually there were guides on the console itself last Gen to assist in that but I guess Sony forgot

There is a hint that the PS5 can be mount horizontally with the disc driver/player located at the bottom part of the console, so the normal way to insert a games disc at that position is with the label facing upward.

why did playstation make the disc drive UPSIDE DOWN? if you have it on it’s side you’re literally putting the disc in upside down. it’s very annoying to my OCD and it honestly just doesn’t make sense

The disc runs high speed to copy data from disc to the ssd. Same as on ps4 and xb360 (except those had hard drives)

I’m going to be honest I did this when I got my PS5 and then I instantly heard loud noises and I thought something was going on and I instantly searched up which way do you put in a disk in a PS5. FYI The disk did not get scratched it does not do anything when it’s put in the wrong way it just makes lotta noise and it doesn’t read the disk. But Miles Morales has a pretty quick story but it’s awesome, I one hundred percent recommend👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

When the console is horizontal you always put the disc reflective facing down you can tell easily from that how it will go when ps5 is vertical.

Bro... No they haven't. This is how the disk drive has been for decades. Ps4, 4 slim and 4 pro all the top labels of the disk a always aim inwards to the console. Same goes for dvd players too. Mf why u been putting your disc drives upside down

It’s quite obvious if you think that when the system is horizontal the drive is at the bottom. So knowing the correct way should be fairly easy just imagine it horizontally. Disc label on the left side
